It’s much easier to do an RCD test on either an rcbo or an RCD by doing the test at the fuse board directly from each breaker or RCD. You can do a whole board of rcbo in five minutes.

I love Nigel, everything is done in his own time... Legend... Dont order new labels until the new ammendment is out, I have been told there will be changes, I believe it was insinuated to me that the way in which we give the information has changed, so I take that as all the RCD labels etc can be given to the customer on a sheet rather than stuck to the consumer unit..

Same here in Belgium .. we don't do EICR's ( most sparkys don't even have such fancy tester also ) . But inspector checks general isolation value and earthing . ( Every new installation / rewire needs inspection of 3th party organisation wich is valid for 25 years ) Also we need to make schematics( drawings ) of the fuses and where switches/lamps/sockerts are located on blueprints of the house etc ..

Interesting. I've just been part of an install with a generator change over switch fitted to allow factory to run off generator if needed. However no generator has been chosen yet (by client not contractor) and was curious what the requirements are for selecting right one and I believe that separate earthing arrangements, such as earth electrode, should be good installed for when the installation needs to run off the alternative (generator) supply. Can you or anyone else offer advice? Cheers

Not the first time I've seen the Pfc With parallel paths coming out less than the Pfc WITHOUT parallel paths. I assume the property has utilities supplied in plastic pipes, but even so, it doesn't give great confidence in the accuracy of the tester. I would expect at least an equal result. It's not as if there had been time for the conductors to warm up and increase resistance.

The purpose of regulation 421.1.201 is to contain a fire within the consumer unit should one ever start. It seems bizarre to bring the cables in through a massive gaping hole at the rear and not reinstate the fire integrity of the consumer unit. I hope you used something by to fire seal the hole where the cable pass through into the consumer unit.
