The heavily anticipated firmware update (DMW-SFU2) for the Panasonic S1 brings VLOG/VGamut support as well as 4K 4:2:2 10-bit 30p internally and up to 60p externally but was it worth the wait? Let us know what you think of the S1 below!

After upgrading my S1, I use it more often than my GH5. It's a great hybrid camera. It costs a bit more than I expected , still the upgrade key is worth the money.

Quite an achievement except the GH5 has been doing it for a couple of years now..... :) I like the S1 however and I love that full frame sensor. It's still the best out there at the moment....until the S1H comes out anyhow.

Still not sure why the S1, even with the Filmmaker's upgrade, is the only S-series camera that doesn't offer FHD 24fps. AVCHD only. I hope there's an upgrade to this.

The name can be a bit longer. The extension is not part of the limit.

I know that the S1 crops in when recording 4K60 internally. Does this crop also exist when recording 4K60 externally over HDMI?

Afaik the naming for vlt files is 8 characters long. But I don't have the S1 so I cannot double check it (GH5/s do tho)

Hey guys, thanks for the video. I am confused though. How do I select 4k, 10 bit 422 50p to recored externally if that option is not available in the recording menu. I see it in FHD but not 4K. I am using a Ninja V recorder . Thanks in advance

To do this you need to make sure you are in 4K 50p 420 as your codec. Then go to your external settings and you can set it to 10 bit external. Sorry I don't have the camera in front of me so I can't tell you the exact menu page! Jake

Bad news - The S1 has an absolutely severe blue color clipping issue in VLog in low light situations. Blue LED lights in shadows will literally notch out the green and red channels wherever blue light is reflecting on. This absence of green and/or red will literally leave a HOT blue "blob" isolated and left on it's own. Sony sensors have shown this in the past but this problem in the S1's VLog is horrendous! Important - This artifact only happens in VLog but HLG and rec709 are PERFECTLY fine. I have already contacted Panasonic about it and they are investigating. Just had it confirmed by Panasonic that this is going to be fixed in an update very soon and isn't issue with the S1H (including cameras that have already shipped!) They are also fixing the HFR exposure issue! Jake

@@CVPTV - Im very impressed with Panasonic support. After I made my VLog blue channel problem video. I was able to reach the important people very easily. They saw my video and escalated it to Japan quickly. They also contacted my twice to let me know that they were seriouly working on it. Lets see how they fix it. If they do, I will delete my KZbin channel as it will no longer be needed.

Hi there.. like you video but i had s1 with latest firmware and volg installed, had ninja v to record externally but there is not an option to choose 50 or 60p 422 10bit. There is only option of recording 10 bit in FHD but bot in 4k. I have selected MOV and hdmi output to 422 10 bit but still no option of 4k in 50 or 60 p 10 bit. If you can help plz. Thanks

Yeah that should work fine except it may not cover the GFX sensor. I would look at the Laowa 17mm f/4 Ultra-Wide GFX Zero-D.
