On Tuesday, we’re chatting about whether prisoners should be able to access video games and why we are so judgmental of others when it comes to money.

What Adriaan is trying to say is that video games seem more like a luxury than an actual necessity for someone to be rehabilitated in order for them to get ready to join society. And I agree, this should be subject to the nature of crime. For petty crimes, yes give those prisoners that console.

I think that anything that an inmate can do to have an outlet and to stimulate their mind is perfectly fine. The prison system is SICK as it is. The idea that people need to "pay" for making a mistake, or most times they’re actually mentally ill, I think as people we need to think about why we feel that way. We as humans have such a sick relationship with punishment instead of empathy and rehabilitation

Well I don't think that people on the outside should get to determine what happens in a prison setting. I understand where they are coming from but the punishment is being prison not and bring in prison has its limitations but as to whether you get to play all day is an issue because when one is sent to prison the judge can say you don't get to play or read or what ever, prison has rules that inmates have to follow. What is not talked about is how working in there as officer affect those people the suicide rate is much too high that is more an important issue to be talked about those people have family to go back to the level of stress that one has to deal with while working in there is mind blowing,it is said that the only profession that is more stressful than that of a prison officer is a solider,so if there is any concerns this should be the first.

If people knew how many people are in prison for small nonviolent crimes (marijuana possession, for instance), they would feel a lot more open to letting inmates have videogames.
@taiyonatiare79184 жыл бұрын
They probably play games in there already. They already have phones and there are inmates with posting tiktok accounts 😂

Y’all don’t think being in prison is already a punishment especially solitary confinement... it’s literally being in a cage (Yes they earned it) but they’re humans as well.
@zonnanwoke23464 жыл бұрын
@- i have never seen something so inhumane in my life. YOU deserve to be in prison for thinking a human being belongs in a cage to die there. there are other ways to correct bad behaviour besides prison. taking away someones humanity ain't gonna make them stop raping kids. if the world had less people with this kinda mindset, prison wouldn't be necessary. kindness ain't that hard to give to people. smh.

Exactly and you would think that most of the ppl quarantined rn couldn’t do it for a year plus and they still have they’re freedom so imagine being in prison...you couldn’t

I am a lawyer working in a government institution. I was once standing in line with other people & lawyers (non - employees) waiting to file a certain document and this other employee lower ranked than myself asked _”why do you bother yourself, why are you waiting in line?”_ (I had done it a lot as I was helping a friend follow up a case) he said that implying that because I’m a boss in that institution I should cut the line. When your decisions begin to lack consideration for others and just logical thinking (what if someone in line had been sick, moved all day before they got there and really needed to beat time and be elsewhere). My desire or urgency to use the filing system is not bigger than the next man it doesn’t matter who they are. I LOOOVEEE MY ACHIEVEMENTS, I personally celebrate them but I didn’t get them to treat people badly. Ask yourself 1.why am I doing this is it for myself or others 2. Ask yourself how does it make other rational thinking members of society feel (I know we tend to disregard people’s opinions a lot in life but true living is when you’re considerate of others).

They have video games in prisons and have for sometime. Maybe not all prisons but I know of two that certainly do. They are still human. Not everyone is a damn serial killer in prison. Far out. The ignorance is strong in this.
@tracy77324 жыл бұрын
@- not all inmates in a prison are. Far out. No wonder America's prison system is such an abomination. The perspective in these comments is beyond ignorant. Prison is the punishment. But I don't expect anyone who likely has zero perspective into the industrial prison complex to understand that. A video game doesn't change the crime. All the comments about they should work, they do! They have jobs. They go to school. Inmates do all kinds of things to keep occupied and build skills. How a video game changes any of that I don't know. They have tablets in some prisons. Digital music devices. All sorts of things. And at the end of the day, I can guarantee you, there absolute basic human rights inmates would choose over a damn video game.

Here’s all I have to say about people judging others finances.... If ain’t your bank account I suggest you mind your damn business... if you have to take the time to scroll up and down someone’s page and type why you feel they should use their money for something else... that’s an issue... not everything you think needs to be said...

Important to define jail vs. prison - jail is for short term sentences and prison is for longer term convicted criminals. I don't think someone who violated someone else's basic human rights deserves to have a "right to video games" or a right to anything non-essential. I do think that providing entertainment in an incarcerated population is a mechanism used to control behaviour (and avoid outbursts). Video games though? No. Books, board games, cards, crafting, communal TV...yes. I mean, there's a lot of everyday non-criminal people who can't afford to buy/play video games or their systems so why provide them in prison? If there was a clear benefit in terms of rehabilitation I might think otherwise. I also think that education should be a priority rather than the "distraction" techniques of being in jail - offer more opportunities to learn life-skills to decrease the chance of re-offending rather than buying video games.

Depends on the type of game... now games come in many forms you got board games , you got card games , you got physical games , and video games or technological games... if any of these involve stimulation where the brain gets so much energy and they release hormones based off a very violent game THEN HELL NO ! But if they are stimulated in a positive manner then go ahead , go ahead and play... and there should be a time dedicated to that without having it go on for so long
@katie43954 жыл бұрын

I don’t think you should tear people down. I worked with a girl all the time and when I would tell myself good job or get so excited about a new program that came out, she tell me to stop being prideful but then turn around and brag on how young she looked and how good she looked. And only her particular race looks as good as her. It was like why are you getting on to me for. I just got to the place and said yes I’m prideful deal with it.
@lifeisbeautiful94552 жыл бұрын
I don’t get why people post their life away on social media… they always post the good parts some of it is filtered and there’s others looking at their life and they are not mentally strong to handle it, so they have to look in themselves and wonder why certain things bother them. They covet and they shouldn’t.

@lizzgil48234 жыл бұрын
This girl chat has bothered me a bit. They are really not informed. They think that these prisoners are going to be playing video games all day like there's no regulation and monitoring going on. Obviously these are privileges for those prisoners who are low risk with good behavior. I had an interaction with a man who spent over 40 years in prison and when he sat there with me in the office the man was basically not there. He is institutionalized. He did not know about cell phones or any technology or basically anything. He spoke a certain way and did repetitive movements. People even in jail should be stimulated speacially those with short sentences because they will be back into the community sooner than those with longer sentences. Of course there will be those who cannot be rehabilitated but they can be treated with mental health issues and other programs.

How is this imposing religion on you? He literally says "He is a God of free will and will only come in if you invite him" pretty much you have a choice to follow Christ. If you don't want to continue as you are. No one is "imposing" things on you or forcing you. No need to exaggerate.
