This is one of the few sports that absolute power (via more muscles or thicker bone bass, etc) doesn't overwhelm an opponent, who is superior in pure techniques. You could, as a guy, swing at that flimsy white puffy thin plastic ball with all your might and it isn't going to statistically go any faster than what a world class woman player also is able to do it. In fact, swing hard at that flimsy ball will simply assure your arms will get tired faster than your opponent's... But in most other sports ---- swimming, volleyball, soccer, marathon, bicycling, boxing, MMA, track and field, sprinting, etc. ---- the guys bone mass, muscles, speed, power, etc. are STATISTICALLY overwhelming enough, so no matter how superior a woman is, she isn't going to out pace another equally good man athlete... But pure diving is another sport I think men and women, at the elite levels, aren't going to be that much different, since it's almost entirely techniques and EXECUTION (not speed, muscles, etc) that score high points...

What happened? Did the games started with a handcap?

Would be much more intressting If the game started at 0-0 instead of 6-8. Tabletennis used to be first to 21. Now its first to 3 points or 5.

No, it wouldn't. The physicality of a normal game would be in the men's favor. It would not serve the purpose of end game simulation.

Respect the women. They all competed using the same effort. Table Tennis is about technique, and simply physical power does not overcome the opponent.

9 to 8 practice for key point.

This was a special unproperly counted training match. She started sets partially at 9:8 leading (was giftet that in the thought of making her have an actual chance), which is basically one point away from having a match ball - If she, even by luck scores just the first point, a Matchball at 10:8 is there and all the pressure fully on him immediately to lose the set with the next point). It's way different that starting with 2:0 for example and more comparable to a gifted 4 or 5:0 head start. And even with this advantage it was very close.

Looking back after the 2024 Paris Olympics, this match is a direct showdown between the men's singles gold medalist and the women's singles gold medalist from this year's Olympics, with the women's singles silver medalist watching from the sidelines.
