Fun Fact: The man who wrote this entire OST did only one track for X1 "Password". Who knew that man would go on to create on of the most amazing OSTs in the series. There is not a single theme of X4 that I dislike, and I think he captured the insanity of Double and Sigma perfectly in their respective tracks. Sigma 2nd is in my opinion THE most intense battle theme in Mega Man history.

X4 did the best job (for me) at making the futuristic world of "Megaman X" seem, well... real. Like it was an actual world populated with people and reploids, with technology creeping into every aspect of the world. It felt dark. I didn't get that same feeling from X5 and X6.

If you pay attention to the backdrops and story telling (albeit a little thin as the series progresses) you can see the technological advancements made throughout. The Jacobs ladder story arc in x8 kind of says it all.

Toshihiko Horiyama hit the nail on the head for the atmosphere of each Maverick stage for me; the music matches perfectly. Listen to each stage track and just think of a 1-2 word description: jungle, cyberspace, Air Force, volcano, speedboat chase, abandoned laboratory, cargo train, frozen wasteland, ice cave. No more description is needed when you listen to the nine tracks they represent.

My absolute favorite Megaman game! I have no complaints, its not too long, playing as Zero is absolutely epic, not a single music track is bad, the story is so good and also very sad. Zero kills the love of his life and X fights and kills to know end even though he's a pacifist. The upgrades for X are very cool as well as Zero's techniques. Its a very good game to speedrun and only requires skill to beat, no jank or unfair design its all perfect! ❤🔥

It took me YEARS to realize why I always felt like I was being haunted by this game's soundtrack, but I finally figured it out: the composer was clearly infusing the theme of tragedy into the soundtrack. I hear it in literally EVERY track. Now, listening to it again after coming to this realization, it's even MORE haunting. X1 had the better music overall in my opinion, but in terms of theming, X4's soundtrack is S-tier and is the best in the series.

I agree with you I think it is due to the moment that was lived in the game. It feels like you are a hero on every level, but when you analyze it, you really arrive at the worst moments on stage. Storm Owl has already hijacked the military fleet. Jet Stingray has already devastated the city. Split Mushroom has already broken into the old lab. That is why the music sounds a bit tragic, since rather than preventing the bad guy from "winning" it feels like you're trying to avoid a bigger disaster. The themes may feel heroic at times, but really, it makes you feel responsible and burdened to stop all the threats Sigma has recruited.

@@stormingkurose9706 Actually, only two of Repliforce's commanders were working for Sigma: Magma Dragoon and Split Mushroom. All of the other officers were just abiding by General's decision to engage in the coup d'etat, which was actually more of a fight for independence. With the exception of a few, Repliforce didn't actually go maverick. THAT is why this game's story is so tragic: the violence was almost completely unnecessary. If humanity hadn't chosen to unjustly label Repliforce as mavericks, X and Zero wouldn't have gotten involved at all. Simultaneously, if Repliforce had chosen to work subtly behind the scenes to extricate themselves quietly instead of loudly and proudly declaring independence, they could have achieved their goals while at the same time minimizing the violence that was necessary to do so. If you really stop to think about it, X and Zero were also bad guys in this story... I think that's the real reason they're both so distraught in each of their end of game cutscenes; they both realize, deep down, that they were just as villainous as anyone in Repliforce was. The true villain was, obviously, Sigma, seeing as how he was the one manipulating all of these events behind the scenes, but X and Zero were just as responsible for the fighting as Repliforce was.

You pretty much helped explain why this is so great, music-wise and the thematic tie to the plot. I considered this point in the timeline to be an important one leading to X5 and then MMZ (more on that elsewhere). It makes me more happier to realize how much deeper it actually is and I wholeheartedly appreciate that! :)

I like X1's the best overall, but X4's soundtrack just stays with you. It has a very... electronic, even robotic, kind of sound to it, but in a way that's almost haunting... It took me awhile to realize why I get that vibe, but here's what I realized: the composer was clearly going with the theme of tragedy. The best part? Once you hear it, the soundtrack becomes even MORE haunting. This soundtrack is absolutely one of the best soundtracks of all time in terms of theming.

It seems like X4's entire OST has a sense of urgency to it and the tempo/ BPM keep rising till this point. Not bad at all. DOUBLE was the big surprise tho.

Second MMX game I ever played, after the original (in Aus it was seemingly pretty hard to find copies of X2 and X3). I freaking loved this game. The voice acting has become iconic (admittedly for the wrong reasons), and getting to play the full game as Zero with his quirky moveset was just awesome.

playing this game on emulator won't be as much fun as playing it on an original console wich is the case for many games ,, so i can't blame people for saying it's bad , but for me it's the best mega man x i 'v ever played ,and reminds me of my best childhood moments sith my ps1 , and one of the best side scrollers games ever !! , well side scrollers nowdays aren't that fun , that's why capcom dropped mega man out of the scenery , i remember when i was so fucking eager to play mega man legend 3 and then capcom canceled it and i was like i will never play any capcom game ever again !

Guillhermi Oliveira Merencio cara nao quero enganar ninguem pra min o sigma mais dificil é do o Megaman X5 ( meu favorito) e o kaiser sigma é facil vc só precisa ter o upgrade do braço e solta o tiro mais carregado no tempo certo x1 = sigma dificil X2 = sigma Dificil x3 = sigma Facil x4 = mediano x5 = Sigma Dificil x6 = Ridiculo de facil ( mais o jogo é DIFICIL PRA KCT)
