The thing is, Anakin turning to the dark side was inevitable no matter how you sliced it. He was a walking force nexus. In order for him to have his full potential, he would have to study the dark and light side in depth and learn them in ways neither sith nor jedi wouldve been able to even on their own.

The Galaxy is saved and Padma has the twins, but then what incentive is there for Luke or Leia to defeat evil and save it? So in your alt future, perhaps Luke and/or Leia have no need to train AT ALL as Jedi, let alone Luke becoming a Grandmaster.

The story seems to stress to us that personality also has a lot to do with potential. Because of who Luke was and how was raised he was able to reach the full potential of the chosen one whereas Leia was never able to despite inheriting the same potential as her brother. The Force isn't just about raw telekinetic power or how fast one can swing a lightsaber but it's also a measure of ones beliefs and convictions so basically the bigger fist doesn't always win the fight. We can see Obi-wan besting Anakin in two separate duels and even when Obi-wan dies it's implied it was planned since his body vanishes into thin air and he becomes a Force ghost. Obi-wan won those duels because he understood himself, he understood his student, and he believed in what he was doing. This is why I don't think Anakin could have bested Luke at his peak because he was always searching for security and validation in people like Padme, Ahsoka, Obi-wan, and ultimately Palpatine. Luke on the other hand doesn't just trust in himself but trusts in those around him and thats what makes him truly powerful in the Force. Luke searches for balance and harmony in the Force while Anakin always sought to control the Force and his fate.

Nah with Anakin he was mentally insane by Mustafar as prior to this he stomped Dooku in 12 seconds and he made Count Dooku into a joke as well as overpowered the force with his will to land the invisible hand as well with infinite chance Dooku could not kill him as his death were predetermined the moment Anakin got it into his head the Count Dooku should die Dooku lost his hands and got killed shortly afterwards and in the Lucas approved video game while Tainted and conflicted killed Mace Windu killed the entire jedi temple a Jedi Master and after killing Obi-Wan Kenobi perception blitzed ROTS Sidious.

I absolutely find it hilarious that people think that because Anakin was the Chosen One= the most powerful being ever....It just meant that he was destined to create balance by taking down the Sith....How did he do it? I think, we need to take into consideration, that Anakin and Luke are very different people with different outlooks and philosophies on life. I think, that if full potential Luke and Anakin meet and fight, we would see differences very clearly. For start, Anakin was always more fight and lightsaber duel oriented, that studying force. Not saying he didn't studied or was weak or unskilled, but his nature was more suited duellist. We can see his genius and wisdom when he was training his students. He was very creative, found weakness of Jedi and worked on their overcoming. Asoka was saved because his training against clones during oder 66, for example. Not saying that Luke is unskilled with lightsaber or something (didn't he created 3 new styles and whole teaching philosophy for them?) He was simply more focused on force itself, how communicate with it and let himself be leaded by it. He did make some big achievement in case of force abilities ( he did created light version of some dark abilities, didn't he?). Not saying, he would be more powerful in force that his father, but probably more skilled. Also he would be wiser generally and be able to make better decisions thanks to guidance of force. So, Anakin would be better fighter, but Luke would be more skilled in force and making right decisions, so he would potentially defeat stronger opponent. (L.and A. fights, A. is winning and forcing L. back, but L. isn't panicking and leads A. to place he wants him be, surprise kick to sand, A. gets hit to face!, L uses opportunity and Head OFF!)

He could have better relationship with Force and be able to follow its will, but his focus would still be on lightsabers over force abilities. So ideally (whitch is something different from full potential) he could be at same level of harmomy with force as FP Luke and be closer to him in wisdom (not sure, how big Qui Gon would have effect in this) but weaker in force abilities and stronger in lightsaber combat.

I mean Anakin with his full potential unleashed is a walking apocalypse of universal proportions. He was literally given existence by the force itself and therefore basically has a mainline into it. He can access far more of it than every other being in existence and therefore his raw power would be impossible to overcome. He could just set up a sphere of energy around himself that literally no one else has the power to break through and therefore couldn't be damaged at all, all the while using the infinite power provided by the force to crush anything he chooses. There's a reason they never have bothered making an alternate timeline or dimension where his abilities are fully unlocked...because thered be no conflict. His power would be absolute. Theyd need to turn the story into something besides the struggle between good and evil forces, because hed be so powerful that hed easily control everything if he so chose. No army could stand against him, no amount of force users ganging up could pose a threat to him, theres nothing in Star Wars that could defeat him or even pose the tiniest risk to him. So theyd have to make the main story about some inner struggle, as opposed to having the inner struggle present but also having an outer struggle against others. Itd be very much the Superman problem. While it WOULD make a very fun wish fulfillment fantasy in game form, itd likely be quite boring to watch or read.

However, Lucas said that of Anakin, Luke and Leia, not that Luke would reach the full potential of the Chosen One, but only that Luke would come closest to reaching the full potential of the Chosen One going on to becoming the most powerful Force user or at least Jedi in history and that only Leia could’ve been stronger if she committed to being a Jedi. Based on what he said about how Anakin / Vader was nerfed to effectively less than 50% of his full potential, his reasoning seemed to relate to the fact that Luke had lost his hand which is something like 2% of the human body. So if the Chosen One had a midi-chlorian count of 27,000, Anakin as Darth Vader had an effective count of about 13,000 about on par with a full potential Sidious (though he would never realize over 80% of that), while Luke’s was at about 26,500, with Leia’s being at 27,000 which both of the others were also born with but she would never realize that full power because of her life’s focus. However, I don’t feel that missing part of your body’s mass nor to what extent you have trained and mastered in the Force matters in the realm of Mortis. Only your purity and resolve. So either Anakin, Luke or Leia could’ve replaced the Father if not both the Daughter and the Son at their full potential had things worked out differently. Abeloth was just crazy over powered I think in part because she feed off of fear and the Force energy of those around her. Basically making it impossible for even a full potential Chosen One to face her on her terms without help if she is at her full. But, I don’t know. They never really got around to fully explaining the mechanics of the Ones.

Personally, my take on this is that FP Anakin is at least double Luke's power and Luke will never become as strong as a FP Anakin. If we take Lucas' statements that Luke=Anakin then Luke is about 1/2 of what Anakin could have been. Luke will never use the Dark side like how a FP Anakin would have used both sides of the Force interchangeably.

The first and most common argument for this question is that Luke and Anakin were equals. With George Lucas supposedly stating that Luke's potential in the force was equal to Anakin's. Though this doesn't make sense biologically as Anakin is the Father and Luke should have half of Anakin's potential. Really midicholrian counts don't make much sense in Star Wars if you think about it. A great example of this would be Palpatine. His parents weren't force sensitive at all and yet he was born with an extremely high force sensitivity even higher than Yoda. So the most reasonable answer would be that both FP Anakin and Legends Luke would be equal. However there is another argument that says otherwise, really depends on the way you interpret it. It is stated in this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4XTk5uleq6fjbs which I highly recommend, it's basically a list of Jedi from weakest to strongest in legends. The argument revolves around when Luke fights Abeloth. In the novel where Abeloth makes her debute, Luke himself states that Abeloth is a dozen times stronger than he is. Now we know that the Ones of Mortis kept Abeloth imprisoned until they died. In the novel it is mentioned that when Abeloth transformed into the monsterous creature, that the Father had to come in and save the Son and the Daughter from her and the trio fled to Mortis before imprisoning her behind the Maw cluster. This kinda implies that Abeloth is stronger than the Son and the Daughter however it is actually possible that the Son and Daughter were actually much stronger than Abeloth was and were only really scared and petrified after seeing their mother transform into a monster. I mean wouldn't any of us be terrified if our family members turned into some kind of weird tentacely Lovecraftian monster? We definitely would be. The Son and Daughter would also constantly go back to the Maw cluster to ensure that Abeloth didn't escape and if she did attempt to then they'd put her back in the Maw and the cycle continued until the Ones were killed in the Clone Wars show. When on Mortis and pretty much amped to his full potential Anakin can do this subdue both the Son and the Daughter, who if stronger or let's say even equal to Abeloth, should be a couple times stronger than GM Luke. Which in short means that Anakin at his peak can subdue and defeat beings a couple times stronger than Grand Master Luke and potentially even Abeloth. Which puts Full Potential Anakin at literally GOD tier and just outright stupid levels. However it is also possible that Luke if on Mortis could do the same thing and really this theory is quite stretched out if you think about, but IS POSSIBLE. So by this logic FP Anakin would be a dozen times stronger than GM Luke. Anakin wins this. At Full Potential, Anakin basically had the ability to tear the fabric of his universe. He would’ve surpassed Abeloth, the Father, and the Whills. GM Luke barely defeated the avatar of Abeloth. GM Luke is right below his full potential in my opinion. I feel like he would’ve had an easier time at full potential as that puts him on the level of either the Son or the Daughter. Anakin wins, no contest. Anakin at his peak would have replaced the Father as the leader of the Force Family. The Father was able to control the Son and Daughter and could probably defeat the Mother, Abeloth. Luke had to get a lot of help to defeat Abeloth. This is not downplaying Luke by any means, but Anakin is the chosen one for a reason. He was literally made by the force to stop the Sith after Plagueis experiments tried to control the Midiclorians. Anakin Skywalker at full power would win after the most monumental fight in all of Star Wars history. A bit of background about Abeloth - Abeloth was originally a human mortal who accidentally found herself in a dimension where she met the Father, the Son and the Daughter - a trio of immensely powerful Force Wielders who represented the Force, the Dark Side and the Light Side, respectively. They obviously transcended any Jedi or Sith, simply because they are personifications of the Force itself. The Son was constantly at war with the Daughter, representing the never-ending struggle between Dark and Light, until Abeloth was somehow able to reconcile the two. She became the Mother and maintained peace between her children, until she began to age and realized she would soon be separated from her family. In desperation, she drank from the Font of Power and bathed in the Pool of Knowledge, and morphed into a horrendous, monstrous entity that wielded power surpassing even that of the Son and the Daughter. She overpowered them both, and was apparently going to kill them both until the Father intervened and locked her away. ( She bathes in the Pool of Knowledge and drinks from the Font of Power without permission from her family. The Mortis entities soon discover their beloved Mother morphing and surging with uncontrollable Force energy. They realized that she has become an absolute monster.) Now, the only three beings in all of Star Wars to ever overpower the Son and the Daughter simultaneously are the Father, Abeloth and, yes, Anakin Skywalker. Anakin cowed the Son and the Daughter in a similar way to Abeloth in the Clone Wars episode “Altar of Mortis,” indicating that both are nearly equal in power. (Anakin - overpowers the Daugher and the Son while the Father watches on in awe.) However, Anakin was supposed to be the Father’s replacement, implying that the Chosen One at full power was probably equal to the Father, who was somewhat stronger than Abeloth. This, and the fact that Anakin was the Chosen One - which technically meant that he was destined to bring balance to the Force and defeat any being that challenged the balance - and so he would be “destined” to defeat Abeloth as well. In conclusion, Anakin should be able to defeat Abeloth as the Father was able to do so - albeit his relative lack of combat experience may make it a more difficult task. In short, Anakin wins - in a magnificent, bloody battle against Abeloth. So Full Potential Anakin is stronger than Grand Master Luke.

Wrong. The offspring of jedi have the potential of the jedi. It doesn't dilute over time. So if we had mother with 5,000 midichlorians and a father with 10,000, the child would have 10,000 midichlorians. That is how it works so Luke got the potential of Anakin. Luke and Anakin are equal.

Another argument......Power is nothing without the wisdom to use it. The use of the force has never been about potential but its usage in works and deeds. Power will dominate for a time unbridaled, but it will not last. Grand Master Luke showed himself to be the embodiement of the force and its massive effect upon the galaxy for balance. Also, if Anakin eclipses Luke by about 3-4,000 midicholorians his potential should make him strong enough for us to see a major difference in the gap of power displayed. Sidious has about 2,500 more midicholorians than yoda and in terms of force power u can see a noticable difference in the raw power of the two. I know one is a Sith Lord and the other a Grandmaster but even still u can see the difference between the twos power levels. 4000-5000 more midicholorians would make Anakins potential almost double that of Luke's if Anakins potential was to be double that of Sidious' because the difference in midicholorians between each of them ,Sidious to Anakin 5,000 midicholorians and Luke to Anakin are about 3,000 midicholorians which should theoretically make Anakin about twice as strong as his son potential wise.

Why was Anakin so powerful? Anakin Skywalker was born that powerful because the Force had enough of Darth Plagueis’ attempts with meddling with the Force itself. What do I meant by that? Well, there’s Darth Nihilus and Vitiate. These two characters are an absolute threat to everyone because they had something in common and that is they desired to consume everything that exists. Nihilus wanted to consume to satiate his endless and exponentially growing hunger. Vitiate wanted to consume the entire galaxy and he would do this by causing billions if not trillions of death happening at every passing second. This is where Darth Plagueis would come in the picture. This is where Darth Plagueis differ with Darth Nihilus and Vitiate. Darth Nihilus and Vitiate had failed to garner the attention of the Force to actually directly intervene the universe which can be equated to divine intervention. Not once in the lore of Darth Nihilius and Vitiate that shows the Force to be actually intervening against them in a direct matter whether it be explicitly or implicity. I find none. As for Plagueis he had something to offer as quotes such as this: And so he had stretched out-indeed, as if invisible, transubstantiated-to inform every being of his existence, and impact all of them: Muunoid or insectoid, secure or dispossessed, free or enslaved. A warrior waving a banner in triumph on a battlefield. A ghost infiltrating a dream. But ultimately to no end. The 2× more powerful than normal dark sidious does not work with the expanded universe. As Dark Empire Sidious is alot more powerful than he ever was in the movies. Than Luke eventually grows far above Dark Empire Sidious when he reaches his full potential.

As much as I dislike the introduction of midichlorians, they do offer a method of quantification. Since Anakin lost his limbs, he lost a lot of power. So, we never saw him at his full potential. Star Wars Legends is awesome (I have a bunch of comic books) but canon Luke seemed defeated emotionally, so I think Anakin at his full potential would destroy Disney Luke

Personally I believe that if anakin still was the person and body after episode 3, but had tech that would not only match what was possible by a the chosen one as a human. But gave him a bit more in the sense of leg and arm Movement then a typical master human Jedi, speed, strength and endurance.

Isnt anakins power split between luke and Leia? By that thought process wouldnt it be fair to say that only one of luke and anakin has a ceiling as such? Luke and leia are twins surely the force would not create two chosen ones and wouldnt pick one above the other? I like the idea that Luke and Leia were as strong as Anakin. People say they couldn't be, because Padme didn't have the Force so she would weaken them. But Anakin's mother didn't have the Force either; clearly genetics alone are not the factor. As for who would win in a fight, I think it has to be GM Luke. Not only is he as powerful as Anakin, but Anakin grew up in a time of relative peace, only really becoming a "warrior" over a peace keeper during the 3 yeara of the Clone Wars. And if Anakin have not turned and defeated Sidious before he became Emperor, thus being able to reach his potential, peace would likely have resumed. GM Luke has been in way more battles and seen much worse combat. I think he also master every form of lightsaber combat, but I could be wrong about that.

@Caimon Soares In the Disney canon, you would be correct. But the question here is about Grandmaster Luke, as in Luke from the Legends continuity. It is stated on multiple occasions, including by George Lucas himself, that Legends Luke and Leia inherited Anakin's full Force potential, and that Luke achieved that full potential. So Full Potential Anakin would actually not be stronger regardless of the circumstances of his birth. Again, in the Disney Canon, you would be completely correct.

Anakins full potential is seen in the Mortis arc. That is the full potential chosen one bending the force to its knees and controlling both the light and dark at the same time. Ultimately he remained a slave until his last act freeing himself.

Ahsoka and Kenobi are defenseless against the Son for example as all other life forms would. That family is simply at another level. Abeloth is not more powerful then the Celestials, that's why she is trapped long after their demise before able to flee her prison. Luke had the same human potential as Anakin, human, as in the midichlorian count. But not that of the Chosen One. Luke wouldnt be able to bene the Son and Daughter like Anakin did. Anakin would indeed be able to if not solo, equal Abeloth. But it would had required him to stay in Mortis or him bathing in the Pool of Knowledge and drink from the Font of Power.

Anakin and Luke have the same potential. But if Anakin had never been gravely injured, I think Luke would still have become more powerful because he was wiser than anakin and wanted to learn esoteric force techniques like teleportation and time travel while anakin was primarily concerned with just swinging his lightsaber. Anakin also didn’t have the patience to learn many of the other force techniques. If it didn’t involve him swinging a saber, he passed over it. Luke took the time to learn everything he could. He was a much better student of the force. If left to their own devices and anakin hadn’t been crippled, Luke would beat anakin.

Midichlorian count is not a genetic thing. It passes through bloodlines yes- if it feels like it- but the force does as the force wills {basically whatever the fuck the writer feels like doing} Palpatine was born from two families with zero known history of force sensitivity, for example, and his potential is comparable to or even a bit higher than Yoda's
