My 92 yr old MIL bought a book from Sam's and, while reading it, discovered that some of the pages had been dog-eared (a practice where certain pages are folded at the top edge tò save your place). She was very upset that she paid $20 for a used book that had been obviously returned for a refund. While not as pricey or ripped off as other types of items, nonetheless, it was a used book that she bought!

My advice is: at the Christmas wrap desk in a store, watch the wrapper LIKE A HAWK, especially if you are having some kind of jewelry wrapped. Also, guys, a female wrapper that is a crook will distract you with flirting and using slight of hand will remove the jewelry and you won't notice it and your significant other will open an empty gift on Christmas day -don't fall for it.

I'm shocked when I've returned items that the person accepting the return never looks in the box to make sure the item is inside! So this problem with ordering and not getting what you thought you were getting is an issue at multiple levels.

@@seanbrown8920 That's how it SHOULD be. I returned a very expensive pair of earrings recently that I'd bought from Amazon to a Kohls returns desk. Person never even looked in the box to see if they were in it. I was appalled.

It depends on where / what you return. At Costco, I returned a high end Dyson vacuum cleaner and they opened the box and took out the item to confirm it matched the box and it was unused as I claimed it to be. Reason for return, was duplicate type of gift for my daughter.

I am as averse to debt as Clark is, but here is how I "bridged" from city life to rural living. I knew my city house had an average chance of selling in an average amount of time and how much it would sell for; I made sure to research this. Then I found a 5-acre rural lot to purchase for $55,000; the seller would not negotiate down (they lived next door) so I paid more than I wanted to. I borrowed that with my city house home equity line of credit and engaged a contractor to build a custom, but modest, house with a construction loan which incurs interest only on the amount of draw the builder needs as they go along. 7 months later when I moved in, the construction loan converted to a permanent loan as I closed on the city house and paid off the converted loan with the proceeds of that sale. The broker on the converted loan was not happy. It was risky and stressful, but house-selling, moving, and all the costs is stressful no matter how you do it. On top of it all, my father was dying and I had to handle the funeral arrangements, so I experienced enormous stress, but not just because of the relocation.

Great, but stressful, strategy! Sorry for the loss of your father during the process. 💚

Regarding circulating hot water pumps, just be aware that there is energy lost along the lines, and this must be compensated for by running the water heater more. Just like in radiant heating systems that use hot water running through lines in the floor, a single line with hot water constantly circulating though it will lose some of the heat along its journey. So you are saving water but expending more energy. If you live in a cold climate, that escaped heat might make your furnace run a tiny bit less. But if you live in a hot climate, that escaped heat must be pumped back out by your AC system, adding even more to your energy bill. The only way to avoid this is to put a point of use water heater in your bathroom so the water is heated close to where it is used.

I do some great savings techniques with water . I will fill up a gallon container till the water gets hot . I will use that water for plants ,drinking and cooking . I also put my gas water heater in vacation mode when I don't need hot water . I turn it back on to a sufficient temperature and let it get to that desired temperature and turn it back to vacation mode . At this point I use the hot water for showering , cleaning and washing clothes . I rotate these events to maximize my use . You don't need hot water as much as you think . A couple showers a week is all most need . Now living alone makes this strategy fairly easy . Takes less than a hour to heat the tank . As things get more expensive you have to find ways to conserve and it may not be as convenient and involve more steps but we waste so much time and our resources it really is not a big deal .

The reason recirc pumps are not popular is because it turns your hot water line into a 24/7 heat radiator. Unless you have a very cheap way to heat water they will be a money waster.

Here is what has happened to me recently. I ordered 2 curtains from Amazon. When package came, it contained 1 curtain and 1 hand gun cleaning kit. I immediately contacted Amazon, they apologized and sent out a replacement for me. So today was the day for the replacement curtain to come. When package arrived, I was confused. It was a tiny, flat package no where big enough for 1 curtain. I opened it and it was a pair of earrings! I immediately contacted Amazon again and after explaining the entire thing to 2 reps (may or may not have been ai), I was promised that a new replacment curtain will be here tuesday. I don't know if this has anything to do with internal theft...nefarious occurrences...within Amazon but I am hopeful only to receive 1 curtain panel! How weird. Both items sent were neither the size, weight or density of the thing that was supposed to be shipped.

A lot of KZbinrs are doing return fraud in order to make videos because they have no money to start their KZbin channel or too cheap and lazy to buy the product review it and resell the item. So the scam goes like this. The KZbinr goes into Walmart or similar buys a product then reviews it to be monetized for a video then returns the item as defective or for whatever reason for a full refund. Huge KZbinrs play Casey neistat and Sean Evans have openly admitted to their millions of followers that they have done this when starting their KZbin channel and now they have millions of subscribers. This is the fake it to make it mentality of all of these crooks. All of the power Banks and battery reviews that you see on KZbin. This is exactly what they are doing because if you go into Best buy and happen to buy an open box guess what it is going to be damaged because they will have overpowered drive that power bank to test it just about every KZbinr who does tech and phones and electronics does this on their channel. It's a very common scam.
