Allow me to explain for your questions. First of all, Yonghui Supermarket is roughly a mid-range chain-supermarket in China. The northern regions of China produce exceptionally high-quality varieties of apples. In fact, China currently accounts for about half of the world's apple production. The apples you picked up 8:30 are actually produced in the Aksu region of Xinjiang. The other "mysterious" vegies in the video are: cucumber 6:56, garlic sprouts, 7:06, oyster mushroom 9:47, one kind of Chinese chives(allium tuberosum, 藠头) 10:24 , agrocybe aegerita (茶树菇) 10:29, water bamboo shoot (zizania latifolia, 茭白) 10:31 , lettuce(lactuca sativa var. angustana, 莴笋) 10:40 , lotus root 10:57, winter melon (冬瓜) 12:47. And yes, you've noticed that the variety of food products in Chinese supermarkets are extremely abundant, except for cheese and coffee. This is because Chinese family kitchens basically do not involve cheese and coffee. And you know large supermarkets mainly supply daily kitchen items for home use. Although, young people in China would accept more for cheese and coffee, however, they basically enjoy them in restaurants and coffee shops, or just ordering through apps. So next time you come to China, strongly recommend you to use the ordering APPs for coffee, and you'll find a whole new world. Love your videos! Welcome back~

There is a tiny bit of alcohol in it so not strong at all. It has a mostly sweet taste with a bit sour in it, mostly from the fermented sticky rice at the bottom. Some place might drink it as a sweet beverage, but the most famous way of using this Jiu Niang is to cook small Tangyuan(small balls made from sticky rice) in it. And we will have what we call 酒酿圆子 (Tangyuan cooked in Jiuniang). It is usually served as dessert at the end of a banquet (in Shanghai, at least).

Everything is complicated in China. Chinese people's food expenses can be divided into several levels: 1. The people who spend the least on food are farmers. In China, farmers have their own land and can grow rice, wheat, potatoes, sweet potatoes, various vegetables, and raise chickens and ducks. Even pigs, sheep, and cattle. And all these foods are organic. Of course, if you grow these foods yourself, you won't have much time to do some full-time work. Some businessmen go to this place to buy watermelons, usually 50 cents for half a kilogram, and then sell them in the city. 2. The second least spenders are citizens in small cities and towns who work full-time and generally work in jobs with low incomes. Their food basically comes from mass-produced factories or farms, and the price is not high. It is not necessarily organic food, but it is all peripheral products that are transported and sold. For example, watermelon is 1 yuan a half kilogram in this place. 3. The third type is full-time working citizens in larger cities. Their food also comes mostly from mass-produced factories or farms. But they usually go to supermarkets or some markets in the city center to buy. Due to transportation, storage, and inspection. The price is more expensive than the second type of local food. You see it like this. For example, watermelon is 2 yuan a half kilogram in this place. 4. The fourth type is some high-end supermarkets. Their prices are higher than the supermarkets you photographed. They advertise that many foods are organic. There are relatively few supermarkets of this type. They especially like to use some imported foods as a promotional point. For example, watermelon here may be 5 yuan for half a kilogram.
But at the moment, at least in Guangdong, the vast majority of people are ordering all this with Pinduoduo, Meituan etc delivering to the nearest collection point, which can be found just about anywhere, even just outside the doors of private apartments etc.

Hey, welcome to China. I am from China, but I live in the US. I haven’t been back to China in summer for ten years. Last summer when I went back, I was shocked by the varieties and sweetness of the mangoes and peaches and all sorts of fruits. Lychee as well if you have the luck to try some because they only available during the early summer. I hope you enjoy and please come back to China again. Love your videos. ❤

I seldom go to the supermarket. The key to buying groceries on Taobao is that it is 30% cheaper than in the supermarket. It is very convenient to pick it up after get off work.

Love your videos! You show what everyday life is like for locals. It's way more interesting than just typical tourist spots! BTW, if you've got a French press, you could pop into a café and grab some beans. Just ask them to grind it for you, and you'll have a fresher, tastier coffee.😊

One major reason why fruits and vegetables in China are inexpensive is the high-speed green channels (which waive highway tolls for trucks transporting fruits and vegetables). This allows fruits and vegetables produced in one province to be quickly transported to various parts of the country.

You mentioned about cheese in China, it depends which region you're in. In China's western province of Xinjiang, the Uyghur (or Uighur) ethnic minority still produces a cheese called kurut.

Love the way you guys travel. Not very touristy so you get a better experience of the ordinary daily life of most Chinese people. Winter in Harbin and the early outdoor local market is something I wish you could do next time. I only visited an indoor market when I was there last time and it was already impressive.

14:30, the service staff is not trying to sell you something, they just think you are a foreigner and tell you how to eat better. This is a passion of the Chinese. If you fail to eat authentic delicious food , they will feel sorry for you, so she works hard to let you know that the pancake will be delicious with roast duck. Roast duck is famous in both Beijing and Kaifeng, Henan

For the instant coffee, unless you got used to the Nes, the Saturnbird and Starbucks are the best I ever had in Chinese Mainland. Saturnbird is Chinese local when Starbucks is way too expensive...

Advise for supermarket instant coffee purchase: If you guys are looking for instant coffee (family pack/size whatever), you should go to the coffee powder product section, there, you'll find various brands of coffee powder (traditional or freeze-dried maybe in pack or in bottle), including Nestle, Maxwell, illy, lavazza and maybe even luckin. Hope this may help. 😉

The biggest recognition and love attitude that Chinese people have for their guests is that they think you are their own family, and they hope to share all the delicious, fun and beautiful things at home with you. The youtubers who have won this honor: Ken, Michelle Couple, Irish tall couple, British lost couple, etc., thank you for speaking out fairly about China.

Thank you for your genuinely comments on all things in China. We Chinese, if any love coffee, may be used to buy instant black coffee online such as ali mall, temu, or chinese tiktok, which is way more cheaper than that in a supermarket, you therefore barely find many goods on-site, since there is a bunch of goods that is too cheap and only available online. Maybe you can look for your friends for help to buy anything online and the delivery speed may also shock you!

Thank you for showcasing the surprising prices in Chinese supermarkets! Chinese supermarkets are indeed very convenient, where you can easily find a wide variety of products, from fresh food to daily necessities, all at great value. We sincerely welcome everyone to travel to China, especially to visit Hubei. Here, you can experience unique culture and beautiful natural landscapes, such as the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, the natural scenery of Shennongjia, and the magnificent Three Gorges Dam. We look forward to your visit!

The full cream milk and natural or Greek yogurt in SuperValu was my favourite. Actually the real Greek yogurt in China are mainly imported and relatively expensive. I always like to find unsweet yogurt, but most of the original ones are sweet or just “Greek style”. I suppose that there are more choice for meat and sausage in Germany. But I do love and miss the sausage in full Irish. I haven’t find similar one in my hometown so far.

I am from a small city in BC Canada, all we got for Asian food is a couple of small Asian stores and an Asian food aisle in Real Canadian Superstore. One day I was in that Asian aisle and I heard a lady shouting "Damn this aisle!". Being an Asian Canadian I got really angry instantly upon hearing that, and I started to walk towards that lady to confront her, ready to start an fight or arguement, this is when I heard the lady finishing her sentence "it makes me want to try everything". And just like that, I lost all my anger and walked away laughing...🤣

Folks. You should have gone to the local farmers market (usually outdoor), Baidu Nong Mao Shi Chan + city 百度 农贸市场+ 所在城市,or simply ask the locals which is the nearby/ best local market. You’ll get a much better sense of what’s really local produce and cuisine. Wait until you go to Yunnan. Man, you’ll see dozens of kinds of mushroom, fresh in season.😊
