I loved your comparison of part -time RVers vs full time. My husband and I are not retired just yet, have 2 years, but we bought our RV last year. Our first trip we packed everything; corn hole, bikes, barbecue, tables for outside, picnic table tent, etc. then unpacked everything at our spot. 😂 When we were packing it back into the RV we realized we didn’t use any of it so we rethought our actions. Now we don’t unpack it unless we use it. We went on a trip last week where we didn’t unpack anything. The site had patio with furniture so we didn’t even unpack our chairs. Love your videos.

I watched this to see if you’ve identified the same thing I do! I wouldn’t have the energy to put all the stuff out that weekenders do! I once had someone pull in next to me at a free municipal campground and put out an entire outdoor furniture set and outdoor kitchen... they were just stopping for lunch! After lunch they packed it all up and left.

My wife and I have been here ( Work camping in Utah ) for a few weeks now , all we have outside is 2 chairs and our BBQ grill. We almost never sit outside. We've been Full Time RVing since March 30th this year and we haven't sat outside by a campfire yet. ( something we always did when we were weekend campers ). When you weekend camp you go home and wash your laundry. But when you full time it's not always that easy to do laundry, so we don't want to stink up our clothes , bedding and RV with campfire smoke smell.

So funny and true for us! We are weekend warriors and our campsite always has much as Phil's mom's campsite.😂 We get out EVERYTHING! And rarely need it all. We've been camping for 26 years, but only RV camping for about three. Eventually we'll learn to simplify.

Hey Fran.....we have an Automatic Generator Start added to our RV. You set the temperature for the AC to come on the thermostat and when it tries to come on, the generator senses the power draw and starts the generator. We have a Magnum ME-RC50 controller and have to set the AGS to auto everytime after it comes on. Works really well and ensures Gizmo stays nice and cool when we are not plugged into shore power.

We got a "tree" to screw onto our propane tank, two lower connections for stove, etc, and one at the top that we put a lantern on. We were tent camping and it made cooking easy because I always had a high up light. Since I was cooking for an "army", er a medieval group (SCA), I needed any convenience I could get. If your mom is having fun, let her set up what she wants. Especially if she does a lot of the cooking. 😉

I love your videos. Thanks for sharing so much information with us. I do have a question. Why do you have to worry about your rig overheating? It sounds like you don’t leave your air conditioner on with Giz in it when you leave. Is this just when you were somewhere where you don’t have electricity and you don’t want to leave the generator running the whole time?
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
Great question Linda. It is when we are off grid and not plugged into shore power. We do have an automatic generator start feature that will start the AC's when the generator feels the power being pulled for the AC's. We also have a wifi temperature monitor that we use when we are away from the rig and can monitor the temps. If it get's too hot I get alerts, indicating something didn't work as planned and we will head back.

How long have you been using Lifepo4 batteries ? Seems they are in 12V size but 40, 60 100, and 200 amp sizes. Do you have them series or parallel or series/parallel and how many ? Do you have solar panels connected as well ? Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries use to have problem with explosions, but that was on the smaller ones that used 1 cell batteries. I didn't know that they had overcome some of the issues that gave them a bad name ? I have a call into Battery Born to ask a few question my self. Please understand I'm not a battery engineer and I don't want to get you upset or worried in anyway. This was quite a long time ago and I'm sure that if someone is using this they would know all the question that I'm asking about. At one time this would be considered dangerous if they got to hot while discharging current from the batteries. Yes they would be the best way to store power by a long way ! I will call them again next week please read about Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries and I would give them a call so that they could put my mind at ease as well. I'm sure this problem has been worked out !

I don't find mention of the use of KOA campgrounds vs TT or other like programs. Do you use them? Is there a membership program? Would you mind commenting on that?
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
We dont stay at KOA. They are always out of our budget, to close together, and we don't use the amenities they offer. We dont have Thousand Trails so we dont know that much about it. We prefer state, national and city parks over private parks. We also prefer military campgrounds and Army COE over private parks and TT cant be used at those locations. This video does talk about the ways to save money while RVing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHPbeWOpf8uXmqs

A few question Please I see you seem to have 5 solar panels on you motorhome ? So I guessing at 220 watts per panel that would mean 1100 watts per hour and being flat mounted here in Alabama you would bet 4.5 hours per day average charging time that time could go up to 5 to 6 hours depending on where you were in the USA. So 1100 watts X 4.5 hours = 4,950 watts per day or power generation right ? So lets say 5K watts of power per day at least. So did you use a MPPT charge controller ? is so what amps ? Also did you add another battery bank to your motorhome this would give you extra storage . Otherwise you might be generating power that you are not storing or using . I thinking of doing the same for my motorhome when I purchase it. Also have you added a larger inverter or parallel another one to the one you already have ? I trying to understand what would be best for me to do when I add this option to my motorhome. Thanks so much for your input ! ! ! ! Jeff

Thanks Jeff. We have 6, 200 watt panels, flat mounted. I did use the Magnum PT-100. We did install 6 lithium batteries and an upgraded inverter earlier in the year, but you don't need lithium for the solar. Not sure if you have seen the videos on both as you replied to another video.....but check them out as well.

Question I don't understand ? Why use the PT-100A that is rated at 100 amps input power ? With 220 watt panels the voltage is rated at 24V dc but I know can go up to a max appox 34vdc the current rating per panel should be around 8.9 amps per solar panel. With 5 panels your max amp would be 44.5 amp at the max at any given time. The PT100A cost is around $819.00 up. We you thinking of adding more like 5 more solar panels ? If now the Outback FM80 would cost only around $397.00 . I know a lot of people that has used this charge controller with no problems. The outback unit is rated at 80 amps but also can come in 100amps if needed for less than the PT100A. I will study the PT-100A more in detail tomorrow because its getting late here . Not trying to be a smart A*s just trying to understand and share information as well. Thanks so much for your replies ! ! !

We have 6, 200w, 12 v panels. The PT-100 is a Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) charge controller specifically designed to harvest the maximum available energy from the PV array and deliver it to the batteries. The MPPT algorithm in the PT-100 is designed to find the maximum power point of the array and to operate at this point while regulating the output current and battery voltage to fully charge the battery.

Phil, can you plz explain the use of YOUR BB batteries vs a generator ? We are newbies with a 2020 22rbs and want to boondock for only 2-3 nights max. Was shocked to learn this State Park has limited electric sites . Just trying to get what we need to run A/C or electric heater . Thanks
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
Our batteries allow us to only run the generator once a day vice two or three with our old batteries. You can get an electric site if you call far enough ahead to reserve them.

Another nice episode. I still get goosebumps every time I hear that Al Michaels call. I was in the Med back then, listening to the game on Armed Forces Radio. The entire Sixth Fleet went crazy when we won. Fly Navy.

Do you use the picnic tables at your campsite?
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
Not normally......but when we do we ALWAYS cover them with a table cloth. We have seen folks put there sewer hoses on them.

I think some people go camping to hang out and rest by the fire;usually part timers. Those of us who are full time dont hang out by our RV as much and enjoy exploring the area and then go bAck to our homes, our RVs. Thats my take on the difference in campsites
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
That is very true....especially since I hate having to wash laundry after sitting by a fire! lol

We've remarked on the difference between weekend campers and full-timers too 😀. When we were dreaming of full time RVing, I always pictured the full outdoor set-up all the time, and at first we did put more out. Now, it really depends on how long we'll be staying, how nice the camp site is, and the weather. If we're only staying a few days or if the weather is stinky or if the camp site is not great, then we may not pull out anything or just our chairs and a table. On the other hand, if we're staying more than just a few days, if the camp site is real nice, and if the weather is good, we'll pull out chairs, tables, and rugs and put a table cloth on the picnic table. and maybe the Camp Chef. But us doing the full set-up is definitely much less than I initially thought it would be. Loved the shots of the lake ! Take care 😍.
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. You can spot fulltimers now in just about every park.

Really enjoy your videos; learning a lot. We haven't started RVing yet...2 months out from full retirement. Love the campground and will definitely visit here. Are you concerned about your rig when you venture out? Have you ever had an issue with anyone messing with it when you're gone?
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
Congrats!! You will love it! We have not had an issue with anyone messing with Ruby when we are away. We are mindful of the things we leave out just so no one is tempted.

Hi... I am no watching your channel for long, I like your style of entertaiment. I notice on the last video I watched that you had (she) complains about the shower water pressure, I do not know much about RV water pump but can it be a pressure adjustment on your pump, be carefull to do not exeed the pressure of your plumbing pipe / connections... Also there is some hot water "on demand" heather, if this can be usefull to you... Enjoy your happy travelling journey. (Hope my english writing is suitable from French Canada)

Amazing... I wrote the comment before I watched the video and you are just a few hundred miles away of Quebec Ca. Funny.
@todayissomeday5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mario. We do like the pressure it gives us, just not the angle/design of the shower head. The way our shower is built it allows for water to splash over the top of the shower. We are adjusting to it.
