Videos like this leaned me to get one from my local appliance shop. They hauled away my 1990 Whirlpool direct drive. I guess these Maytags are coming off a commercial line in Clyde OH. I am still trying to wrap my head around the reliability of suspension rods vs spring support bases.

I have the first gen of this washer and it’s awesome. So glad they added more options. It actually agitates and cleans clothes.

My MVWP575GW always tore up towels and rugs so I ended up washing everything on Delicate. It just flooded the floor with water and brownish liquid the repairman said included transmission fluid - there was brown on the outside of the transmission - and said there is no guarantee $450 for new rods would solve the problem and no way to add fluid to the transmission. He recommended Speed Queen, which I just ordered. Someone who bought the new model Maytag Commercial MVWP586GW said it was amazing for 3 months and nothing but trouble since then.

This wash action reminds me a lot of how the original dual-action agitator performed in Kenmore machines. Sears engineers really had something back in 1976!

Funny you mention Kenmore. I loved my 90 series set. A great you tuber/repair ma (bens appliances and junk) did a great take apart video of the prior 575 iteration. It was very informative and thorough. Dryers usually get passed over or a token mention, but this Maytag commercial dryer has its game on also. He says it is for all practical purposes a kenmore 90 dryer. Worth watching if you have the 575 or 586. Hoping Eugene gets a take apart on the 586 loaded soon.

​@@jamesorsby7553, Sears engineers came up with the dual-action agitator design and started having Whirlpool install them in Sears Best Kenmore models beginning in the fall of '76. To my understanding, it was always a Sears design that Whirlpool manufactured to specifications.

@@roblitchke4886 Good information. I thought that it was a Whirlpool design, since Whirlpool usually manufactured Sears/Kenmore washers and dryers. I guess the dual action agitator design was so good, that Whirlpool started using it for themselves.

Whatever speed queen and maytag do, they always seem to get about 90% of the way there... the deep wash option doesn't fill up to the top, I would think this would be crucial when washing comforters or big thick blankets. Wash action is about 9 minutes which seems low (though it's probably enough for small or lightly soiled loads). Final spin is about 10 minutes (!) which seems unnecessarily long.

I wonder if this machine has an adjustable pressure switch that you can change to bring the water level up to the top.

If the water was higher it would probably splash into the sides of the tub, I’m guessing

It’s odd. The same machine (586gw) that Kirk Rivas at appliance associates has on KZbin fills to the second dot from top, which is where it should be. Eugene’s is NOT filling all the way on deep. There must be some way to fix that. I just ordered this machine based on kirks review because it DID fill to very top. It’s going back if it doesn’t fill all the way on deep.

These would be great machines for someone who wants a traditional-ish machine, especially with how hard it’s becoming to find DirectDrives in good shape (plus the fact that WP is discontinuing parts already). The only issue I’d have with this machine is it would need a lot of sound dampening, i.e. Noico panels inside the cabinet and some absorbing foam around the bottom perimeter of the interior. These don’t sound awful as long as they’re muffled.

I just recently got the mvwp585gw maytag top load washer from Home Depot 2 weeks ago. I think the agitator is sounding louder than it did before. And sometimes it fills the tub lower. Anyone else experience this?

Hoping you can help. I have a year old Maytag Commercial washer. No lights are displayed. It turns on and fills. Starts to agitate, just one jerk and stops. Does nothing else and drains at end of cycle. It Does the same thing in diagnostic mode. The actuator does engage. Example I set washer to rinse and spin. Actuator engages and motor jerks about every 30 secs. Then fill stops and actuator goes back and agitator tries to spin but stops. Drain pump runs. Actuator engages tries to spin but stops. Capacitor is showing 58.8 MFD

13:48 there was no reason to run the pump. I kind of get that for spray rinses but for a full rinse I don’t get it.

Thanks for video on the Maytag Neptune. I have three of them swapping parts from to keep one running. However, my current Maytag problem is with a mfw9600sq1, giving me a heating element error code. I replaced element, sensor and CCU, still get same F05 error. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know what the difference between this 586GW and the 585GW that Home Depot sells? They both appear to be the new version, but what’s the difference? Is it just less of a warranty on the Home Depot 585GW version or do they use lower quality parts?
