Love to hear musicians give Warren DeMartini the praise he deserves. His guitar playing is stellar. His solos, even though they're technical, compliment the song as much as Eddie's did on the early VH albums. Just perfect, gorgeous solos man.

Misinformation bothers me so i will clarify a few points here. 1. Jeff is a cool guy, and a great player, no issues there. 2. Jeff was not coming in to "replace Yngwie or Vai" as he states... he was asked to audition for the 2020 reunion of Alcatrazz (Graham was still the singer at this point and remained so for one studio album after we chose Joe Stump instead of Jeff, anyone below who thinks Jeff is talking about Doogie has their timeline confused)... also this was long after either of those guitarists Jeff mentions had been in the band. 3. He says he turned the offer to join Alcatrazz down, this is 100% NOT true (i was the one who offered him the audition in person in Las Vegas)... Jeff was actually quite disappointed he didn't get the gig, we choose Joe Stump as Joe was the perfect fit, Jeff was nearly there but it just didn't quite feel right personally or musically... it was our choice to make for our own reasons. 4. Jeff did not "work on the gig for 4 or 5 months", he came up 2 or 3 times to Los Angeles from Las Vegas, as we gave him a couple chances to earn the gig, this was over a 4 week period at the most as we didn't even have 4-5 months to find our guy and certainly wouldn't have strung someone along for that length of time. 5. The reasons Jeff gives here as to why he claims he turned the Alcatrazz job down i will not comment on...but Jeff did not turn the job down.

Powerful, yes, but Graham is also a bit erratic as an individual, and his live performances can be inconsistent, so I can see it being a possibility SOME of the time, just not EVERY gig. Jeff has never struck me as a liar, though he could be exaggerating based on his reaction to Bonnet doing ANY lip-syncing. Some people are just purists about the issue; Others are open-minded, depending on the degree of recorded tracks being used live. Clearly, Jeff is in the first camp.
@nathanielstoltz6525 Жыл бұрын
He did from about 2018 (he used the re-records from The Book rather than the original vocals) to 2022, but perhaps due to this interview and a couple others (Joe Stump brought it up in places as well), Bonnet seems to be back to singing live in 2023 footage. There are some shows in 2018-22 where it was partial and not every song, and notably he didn't lipsync at all with Schenker as far as I can tell, nor the guest shot with Impellitteri a few years back, but 90% of the solo shows in those years are purely to tape other than some occasional improv wails he throws in (because he's not singing anything else, he has the ability to do those, heh). It absolutely does suck that he mimed so much those years, though it is remarkable that he still has a voice at all given his vocal style and all the years of touring and vocal wear prior to 2018 (prior to which, as far as I know, there was zero miming at any point in his career). I think the thing with Bonnet is he's never been one to adjust his voice much, so when he couldn't reliably hit the original notes tuned down a bit, he didn't have a great backup plan, and that style of singing can be tough to maintain through a show, so he may not have seen much recourse. Glad he's giving it a go again though in '23.

In contrast, I am a huge thrash metal fan. But as I said in a comment above, with literally hundreds of thrash bands worldwide over the past 35 years, the quality varies greatly. I mean, there's a reason why Metallica became one of the biggest bands (of any genre), while a ton of unknown bands barely poked their heads up from the underground scene. Of course, at the end of the day, taste is always personal and subjective, so I say enjoy whatever music you like. 😊

He's not wrong. Thrash metal at its best (early Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, etc.) is absolutely great! But there are hundreds of thrash metal bands, and the quality varies greatly. Also, thrashers used to hold most radio-friendly glam metal bands in low regard, but in truth there were some glam metal bands that were really good. Ratt had some truly memorable songs. Sad to hear that Ratt does lip-syncing in concert, though.

The main problem with death metal vocals is that they become repetitive after a while; to me a lot of bands beneath the trailblazers and elite groups all sound the same too. Gotta agree with the "when it comes to the Cookie Monster voice, I'm out", I don't know how people think that's singing. No respect for any of that garbage myself.

Jeff seems a little jaded against Dave Mustaine. Even on Behind the Music it looked like he wanted to go off. I wasn't there so I don't know what really happened. He just needs to be thankful he's part of that history of Thrash. I need to check out his playing, only familiar with his playing in Megadeth.

Jeff probably is jaded toward Dave Mustaine. Dave Mustaine never really has been a guy big on friendships. Dave is basically all about His dream. His music. His band. Him, Him and Him.

Jeff Young was the victim of a narcissistic maniac and his ego. Having said that, he never was able to use his Megadeth experience as short as it was, to catapult himself into something else. He only popped up recently on the Internet. For so many years I never knew what happened to him. Mustaine f--d him over and Jeff just disappeared.

Is it Graham Bonnet who lip syncs? So disappointed

Jeff Young has to be the single, most overrated guitarist ever.

That was a cool interview. I'd be pretty ticked off after being hired, wasted valuable time learning every Alcatrazz song. Then go on stage to unexpectedly find out the vocalist is "lip synching" to a tape during a live performance. Total musical lame joke. As well as ripping off the fans. You would expect that these days from a has been pop singer. Not a hard rock band.
