Adam, do you have a part number for the 1.5 service block? Ford won't give a specific part number for this block as well as the 1.6 service block.

with 400whp killing the OEM 1.6, would you think 399WHP/WTQ would be fine with the S280 for a few years? ;) Great video!
@1krista1969 Жыл бұрын
I highly doubt the new service block from Ford will address the open deck other than just fill in the missing material in the slot. A proper interference fit closed deck support is the only answer IMO. I learned this from my d series Honda days.
@AdamBrunson Жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with open deck vs closed deck. It’s to address the cylinder liner cracking issue which will happen on open or closed deck regardless. The correct answer is sleeving. Which is what we do to every single block we build for this platform now.

What year did Ford start cross drilling the top of the block for the mustangs? I have a 2019, tempted to add meth if the block is a bit stronger @Adam

Where could I find this block I’m sure they don’t make a 1.5 turbo in the uk..only 3 cylinder model..if you could send a link where to purchase this would be sound mate

They do make a four cylinder 1.5 engine in the UK, they are fitted in the KUGA, CMAX etc

I just did a head gasket on my 2018 Mustang ecoboost, and it was slotted between the cylinders like that 1.6T Fiesta engine. The oem head gasket is garbage IMO.

Would a stage one cam be beneficial on a stock bottom end s280 setup with an equal length (ram horn style) exhaust manifold? I heard what you said about the ports being to small. I'm not revving it past the stock 6500 limit.
@AdamBrunson4 жыл бұрын
No because a stock engine is maxed out without any changes at all to the head. The bottom end will fail as noted in this video.

You mentioned displacement and big turbos having difficulty spooling etc, how do people make it work on the small single cam stuff from Honda? Like the D series?
@AdamBrunson4 жыл бұрын
A D16 (Z6 for example) cylinder head flows significantly more than the fiesta ST. That’s one hinder, but the displacement itself is obviously a problem. A lot of the big D16 cars that are making power or using nitrous for spool, or they’re dealing with the lag by taking advantage of how high they can rev the engine as well. A 6062 on a D16 won’t hit 25 pounds of boost until almost 5500 RPM, but I can rev out 9000 RPM. Where the fiesta revs out to 7000 RPM. I’m a Honda guy as well, I actually have a H22 manual swapped 98 Odyssey. 😅
@RsLays4 жыл бұрын
@@AdamBrunson yea I know you mentioned doing some Honda stuff previously, that's why I figured I'd ask. If you end up porting the head and getting cams springs retainers etc, do you think you'll be able to Rev it out more and make use of other options like that?
@AdamBrunson4 жыл бұрын
@@RsLays The limitation on revving is mostly the resolution of the factory crank trigger wheel. The ECU starts to freak out as you start to get over 7000 RPM. This is a common issue with pretty much every Ford, I’ll likely work on a solution this year.

So in your opinion, what is a safe HP number on the stock block? I want to go s280 with fuel mods, e30/e40 as well. Awesome content by the way.
@realbigtuna6673 жыл бұрын
Answer really depends on how you are using it and the supporting mods you have. Some guys are running around 400whp on the stock block. But I doubt those engines will last all that long at that power level. Once you go beyond an S280 on the stock fuel system, things start to pile up in terms of cost for supporting mods to ensure reliability. Idk what you intend to use the car for, but if you are adding aux fuel to support more power, definitely budget as much money for supporting mods as you do for the turbo itself. Even if you stay on the stock fuel system with the S280, at bare minimum, def throw an oil cooler on it. Get one with a thermostatic sandwich plate if you live in a colder climate so it comes up to temp in the colder months. At the end of the day, it's still a lightweight fwd car. You will get better bang for your buck spending your money on things like an LSD, better tires, etc to get the power from an S280 on the stock fuel system to the ground. No point in having aux fuel /e30 and further stressing the engine if it all goes up in smoke. There are others ways to get more performance than just throwing as much power at it as possible and putting more stress on a small displacement engine. Free options are removing the spare tire, back seat, and washer fluid bottle (or fit a smaller one). Or, simply lose some weight yourself.Cheap(er) options are a lightweight battery, A/C delete, and a lightweight flywheel. More expensive, but biggest performance gain across the board is reduce unsprung weight by fitting lighter wheels and 2-piece brake rotors. In short, if you really want to go for 340whp+, and have it be dead nuts reliable for hard driving (more than just a street pull here and there), just take your block and send it out to be built. But at that point, IMO, just buy a different car. Thats my 2 cents though.

You and your business comes highly recommended on the Fiesta Forums maybe others as well but I am just on the fiesta forums. With a stock fiesta ST with just normal bolt-ons and your 93 octane tune do you feel those motors are still reliable or should I just enjoy the car for what it is and forgo the rest?
@AdamBrunson4 жыл бұрын
The car is definitely reliable, even with a big turbo upgrade. You’re never going to reach the max power limit of the stock engine without a big turbo, full bolt on‘s, and ethanol fuel with fuel upgrades.
@MHBGT2 жыл бұрын
@@AdamBrunson I trust your judgement and knowledge on these engines. I just hit 95k miles, and it looks like I've started getting the coolant consumption on my Fiesta ST. South African spec, based on the Euro 3 door ST-2. No tune, completely stock, but I fear the deck has cracked. My mechanic suggests opening it up again next year and sleeving the block. I'm not sure if this will be a long term solution if the slot between the cylinders still exists. Recently had the head reconditioned after a spark plug seized, and new piston rings and bearings fitted. Really interested in the 1.5 block swap since it seems to be the closest thing to a revised block for the FiST.
