UPDATE: After using it for a while it did work well for us but I would say that it was average and nothing that was more efficient or better at cooling than other RV AC units we have had. It was quieter than our last one but not as quiet as the Colman Mach we have with the RV Air Flow System. I hope this update helps.

@@nickwuebben2500 take off the inside air distribution unit and stick your hand up the cold air side and see if the plastic divider was installed correctly. There should be a smooth plastic surface all the way to the foam underside of the outdoor part of the unit. If there is a gap at the top, that is the cause of your freeze up problems.

Did you update your thermostat from that Honeywell you used in the video? If not, which model is the one you used, because that's not the same as the link you provided in the description. We bought TWO brand new Furrion thermostats, and neither one of them will power up. So, we connected our analog Coleman Mach to the control box, and it powers up but won't turn the a/c or the furnace on. Not sure why, because we know for a fact we have other wired correctly. So, I need to look over everything, for the hundredth time, to see if I missed something. 😕

Will you be making a video installing the RV airflow system? I'm looking at installing this RF Air flow system in my Furrion unit
@Stubones999
@Stubones999 Жыл бұрын
If you turn on the AC to cooling, it will start the inside fan first, and then start the compressor a few seconds later. That lowers the initial inrush current to start the unit. The inside fan always be running, and the compressor and it's fan will cycle as needed. I have talked to a few Furrion users who didn't like it because "it freezes over" and found they didn't read the instructions and failed to install the hot / cold divider part while they mounted the A/C unit. There is a curved plastic part that separates the hot and cold sides of the unit. The curved plastic part is supposed to be adjusted based on the thickness of the ceiling, and the top edge pushes into the foam under the outdoor unit. If you leave off the plastic part, the air will get colder and colder and eventually freeze up the unit...

I don't know if this is a recent issue or a long running one with all Furrion ACs? I had to return the first one because it was completely smashed inside the box!!! the second one both Camping World and myself inspected the replacement, we didn't pull it out of the box we just checked visually If it looked damaged, went I got it back to my camper it was still over 100°f out in the New Mexico desert. I got it unpacked on the roof and sure enough it had some broken clips on the one side that could not be seen while In the box. I am waiting on Furrion to send both the upper and lower covers. reading lots of reviews this is a very common issue, the manufacturer doesn't package them very well!!! a oxymoron on Furrions website says they are built extremely durable to handle harsh environments life on the road. this might be true once you find one that's not damaged and get it installed. they are about 100lbs not a easy thing to get on a RV Roof! becides that I'm happy with its performance so far. oh one more issue if you get the complete system, AC, Air Box, Control Module, and thermostat and have a curved roof the Furrion cover might require some modifications to get it to fit properly! I have tape along the edges to seal it up until I engineer a solution. they are definitely not plug and play with the problible damaged units requiring it's removal from the roof and getting another up there and the old ones removal, and the Vent cover design of your roof is curved like the one in my 2019 Winibago.

We bought one last year and noticed that the only complaint we had was the excessive noise when it was closed for Duct cooling. It sounded like a jet- I solved that by putting a 1/8" board with 1/8" Styrofoam (shipping Styrofoam) glued to it. cutting it 1/2" larger than the hole, slipping it up inside the hole and screwing it down where it was inside the hole. Now it is permanently ducted and very quiet. Now we can talk and hear each other.

I purchased a 2022 Grand Design 10 days ago and since day one the AC thermostat has frustrated me. the AC does'nt seem to come on by the temperature I set it at. Especially at night. You mentioned the cabin/RV sensor is outside on the AC unit and not inside the RV cabin. My RV is in the Florida sun all day. I wonder if that's why I'm confused with this cute little thermostat?? Any feedback appreciated.

My coleman mach just tapped out. And I'm sick of troubleshooting...it was working great last year once I put in a new motor and brand new capacitors. My wife's hair dry tripped the breakers, and it all the sudden, the AC quit on me. I'm sick of fixing stuff. Haha. Would I be able to install this considering this trailer came with a coleman ac?

Thank you for the candid review of the product. Having a motorhome with dual zones and two slim/low profile heat pumps that are "only" 13.5K BTU made by Dometic (bleck) and needing to actually replace one of the units, this product has my interest piqued. One question to you; the aerodynamic profile of the unit doesn't look as rounded in the front as most rooftop units. Have you noticed any changes in your fuel economy traveling down the road since swapping out the original unit for this one?

As usual a great video Jared! Wife and i have been following you for s long long time. My 2019 Puma 28RKSS has only one 13.5k btu Coleman. Was in Ohio in July 19 and temps over 100 degrees. Coach got up to about 84 but humidity way down. Tolerable. The front bedroom was NOT pre-wired fir second A/C by Forest River. In fact it doesn't even have a vent in the bedroom. I have beeb tempted to replace with 15.5 unit from Coleman. The reduced noise level with Furrion is attractive to me. I have a fully ducted system now. Do you think this would be direct replacement or would i have to modify?
@AllAboutRVs
@AllAboutRVs 4 жыл бұрын
I believe it would be a direct replacement. I would check the current one you have and see that it has a 20 amp breaker and 12 awg (yellow Romex) wire. The ceiling/roof opening should be the same dimensions.
@andypop123

I question if this is upgradable from its current A/C to a heat pump. The only real difference between a heat pump and a A/C is a reversing valve for the refrigerant. So instead of blowing cold air in & hot air out, it is reversed to blow hot air in & cold out. This would require reclaiming current refrigerant, adding a reversing valve & recharging. I replaced our Coleman A/C with the Coleman HP2. It required the roof unit plus a new controller for the added option and we had to replace the thermostat as well. We love it, it cuts down on propane use, but it does have limitations, usually below 45 degrees it does not work well, and then thermostat will turn off the heat pump and will kick on the propane heater. Appreciate your videos.

Greta video as always - one thing that is missing in your description that may be impacting others seeking to go to a real thermostat with an on thermostat thermistor. Use the wire that is for analog thermostats - i had stored my cable and forgot about it, so your description of clearly labeled wires made no sense, after accidentally running into the wire it all made sense - it plugs into the 6 pin connector right next to the dip switches on the furrion chill control board - the wires are (gas) furnace, (H)igh fan, (L)ow fan, heat pump (not applicable), (COM)pressor , (GND) - hope this helps others that may have removed/trown out the analog thermostat wire harness and forgotten about it. Don’t forget to flip the analog/digital dip switch to analog and cycle ac and dc power. Can’t wait for the furrion room air temp sensor induced short cycling to be a thing of the painful past and to have the fan turn off when not running the compressor and have all of this using a normal battery powered house thermostat. Thanks for the video convincing me it is possible.

So I wired in a Nest programmable thermostat to my RV furnace about a year ago. I was going to do a video or a blog post, but never got it done. I do have pictures, and schematic. Depending on which version of the nest you get (the cheaper one requires wiring in relays) both require transformers. I never did find any info on the internet on how to do it for a RV furnace. I did find some info on doing it with a pellet stove, and found some more info on a different application, but with the RV you have to do the relay. Anyway if you are interested in wiring one in your RV let me know and I can get you the info. Then you could make a video on it. :-) I love it because I can see what the temperature is in my RV remotely. I can schedule it to come on and off in an app, and I can use a remote nest sensor in my basement near my water hookups, to make sure they don't freeze.

A subscriber mentioned "soft start" in an earlier message. He never received a reply that I could see. Your vlog failed to state whether or not the new 15,500 BTU Furrion air con unit required an "Easy Start" to work off your generator, shore power or inverted 110V a/c power. I remember when you installed the Easy Start on your old air con system. Wasn't this to run your air con off of a 2,000 watt Honda inverter generator. Or, to run your air con off the Battle Born battery array with a 3,000 watt Victron inverter that you installed. I would like to know how you're powering your new air con, and whether you're using Easy Start to do it? Especially overnight. Thanks. Keep up the great work. Your channel is one of the few I can depend on for solid info. Not just a bunch of puff pieces on their new $150,000 Airstream or new $100,000 Super Duty with $50,000 in mods.

First try was me. 2nd try was a certified RV Tech, 3rd try was with another with a different certified RV Tech and a new soft start device that they sent me. None of them worked. I finally got a hold of an engineer from Furrion and he told me that they design their units so that they specifically will not work using a soft start device. I told him that was silly. He said that you don't need one. I said that it takes 3200 watts to start up my a/c unit so what are you talking about? I asked him if there was a work around and he told me no

@@WillBelden We were replacing a vintage 2005 DuoThem Dometic A/C unit. Hey it worked well from 05 to 2018!! It used the 5 wire old style telephone line to communicate between the thermostat and the controller. In the end, with the Furrion controller, we only needed three of the five wires. Two remain and we are considering using those two wires for the room sensor relocation. No doubt we could use that wire to run additional wires but we don't see the need for them.

Whats the voltage output of the wire coming out of the black control box (while DIP 6 is set to analog) of AC that you connected to RC on the back of your old thermostat?? BTW i suggest looking into zwave thermostats instead of waiting for a bluetooth thermostat, another option is to make a thermostat out of a raspberry pi (has built in Bluetooth), a relay board and a temperature/humidity sensor; can become the most advanced RV specific thermostat on the planet!

I decided to upgrade my 2016 RV using Furrion equipment earlier this year after both, lightly used Coleman AC’s died. There are a few IMPORTANT things to know before you run out and buy one of these units. I wish you (anyone) would mention the following hurdles one will encounter. 1. Be sure to order “The Kit”. Furrion products are sold separately. Don’t make the mistake I did. I’ve been ordering parts since April and my Furrion Chill still isn’t running. 2. Furrion A/C’s are not compatible with other RV thermostats. Wires must be pulled from the unit to the original thermostat location. This is not a DIY undertaking. Summer is upon us and getting a professional to wrap up this upgrade is not fun.

not entirely true it did plug directly into the Dometic control box and works with the Dometic Thermostat. it doesn't give you all the bells and whistles but it does work, I purchased the kit but the Furrion Control Module was in back order, I'm picking it up tomorrow, I did call Furrion before trying it with the Dometic system they said it was designed to work with most Systems. I'm not sure how your Ac was wired? but it works fine with the little grey Dometic control box in my 2019 Winibago.

@macman216

You dont if it needs recharged throw it out buy a new one, even if you find someone to solder in a port it will still fail again.

Vents are to small. If you get the thermostat sensor in a place that it actually reads the indoor temp and the unit stays on , it will freeze. Sounds like a wind turbine in my camper.

Drilled two 2-3/8 holes in mine. Directly below the main supply duct. Behind the two knobs. Doesn't freeze up anymore and is not as loud. Coleman's have a quick cool blast gate. Idk why these don't.

New rv cane with 2 of these and it’s no quieter than the older system and does not cool any better .One ac has something coming apart inside and makes a horrible noise.I would say they are typical rv ac units . Seems these are company’s would al go to a mini split system or something.I know new horizons is testing a new spit system.

I agree I would love to see more mini split options for less power consumption and sound. Here are a few we found that we found.kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5iVdn53p8mioa8

Honey, if you would just have a break and shot up for a minute, we would be able to hear how loud it is. This is what we where interested in. Thanks

I have a 21’ born free. I installed the 14.5 btu air conditioner. It’s been on over night on house power. Rv is sitting in my driveway. 24 hours later I’m still waiting for my Rv to collect down. In other words say NO to this Rv. My domestic penguin froze me out in 15 minutes.

It really doesn't sound that efficient. Btu's cooling ÷watts=EER, so 15,500÷1720=9.0 Energy Efficiency Ratio. A descent window ac for a home is usually around 11-12 EER. The higher the better. With all these ac units using the more efficient R-410a refrigerent, 9.0 is absolutely nothing special. It's very true that more efficient compressors cost more so a bargain unit will have average efficiency. With so many campers out there using generators, I'm one person that would pay a bit more for a more efficient ac unit.

Can we use a residential thermostat on a RV ac?

We are using a residential thermostat currently but have our eye on a new one that should be coming out soon that is made for RVs and has Bluetooth.

you're the Gerald Undone of the RV world. Accurate information, explains complex topics well, produces content that I find to be reference material on the topic. Judging from your Production Quality, you most likely subscribe to Gerald and know this is a complement :-) Have a great day, and be safe out there.

Its not a thermostat its a set point. The thermistor is up in the air box which is a terrible design

Say man are you giving this information to be helpful .because that distribution box is terrible it restricts all the air from the a/c causes the ac to freeze up .and I am finding it hard to believe that you dont know this

What about soft start? I've heard some manufacture's systems either have them or are designed where you cannot use them. If everyone used soft start for their AC, power draw at parks would be less, there would be less voltage drops and it would save park operators on their electric charges.

On the main Furrion website. It alludes that their ACs are so efficient that they are basically soft start. He touched on that briefly, but, then a caption said he was getting a soft start???? I'm looking at Furrions for the fact that RV ac design hasn't advanced much in 40 years. A modestly prices energy star window AC with a high EER is available. Why aren't efficient rooftops? Furrions may be close, Im looking at them, but, let's see.
