@Hibernicus1968 Жыл бұрын
I know it's just a TV show, but this scene right here is exactly why real gunfighters in the days of the old west didn't face each other down in the street and have a fast draw duel like you see in the movies. It's why a famous old Hollywood trope is a complete myth: the idea that once you became famous for being fast and deadly with a gun, you'd never have a moment's peace again, because aggressive young punks would come out of the woodwork everywhere you went, trying to get famous themselves by being the man who killed you. Wild Bill Hickok, John Wesley Hardin, Jesse James, were all shot from behind, taken completely unawares. Billy the Kid was shot by Pat Garrett, as Garrett waited in Billy's darkened room for him to return, and then shot him while he was silhouetted in the door. The actual gunmen from that era tried their best not to give an opponent any opportunity to shoot back at them. I think this is because those men, veterans of _actual_ gunfights, who saw how gunfights really went down, understood that an enemy doesn't automatically just fall over dead because you hit him first. Often he's just wounded -- _maybe_ mortally, but maybe not -- and fully capable of shooting you right back before he snuffs it. The old west's real gunfighters understood this, and conducted themselves accordingly.
@robadamson111 ай бұрын
Yeah, you're right on that. The only real historical "gunfight" I can think of is the O.K. Corral, and that only happened because one side went to stop another group from forming up. Neither side had any idea there was even going to be a gunfight 30 seconds before it happened, and then blamo! 3 men hurled into eternity in an instant.
@JamesR12346 ай бұрын
@@robadamson1 I know this comment was a few months ago but there were many gunfights in the Old West--they just didn't match the Hollywood version of two men meeting each other in the street for a preplanned dual. Those were indeed rare. During modern times that fact became twisted by the myth that gunfights themselves were rare. No, just the Hollywood version. Most of the real gunfights were spontaneous, happened at short range, and many times involved alcohol. But they happened a lot. Read up on Ben Thompson, who was considered one of the greatest gunfighters. He ended up killed with his friend via ambush in salon in 1884. Or Luke Short. Clay Allison supposedly killed over 30 men in his lifetime--ended up dying when he became drunk and fell off a wagon, which then promptly ran over his neck and killed him.

During the final battle with his nemesis, Sasakai Kojiro, Musashi's headband was cut off, as he struck down his opponent with a lethal blow. Since western and samurai tales often borrow elements from each other, I can't help but wonder if the creators of Justified were inspired by Musashi's greatest duel.

Well most lawmen entering into a potentially dangerous situation would likely already have their sidearms drawn. Raylan tried to play it nice and cool with the unlawful elements of his jurisdiction by keeping his weapon holstered, but this meant he had to be ready to draw quickly if he misjudged the situation. In the end its just a tv show, but the allure of it was a lawman who was very much built of the same streets he now presided over. Far fetched in some sense, but there are some kernels of truth in it. Ive personally known two sheriff's deputies who grew up in the seedier parts of town who used Raylan's hands off approach to keeping those same streets safe as law officers. Their background in those neighborhoods plus their goodwill kept them more safe than their sidearms

If you play it back at a slower speed, you can clearly see raylan shot first. Boon was close, but even though he had the advantage (the sun not being in his eyes), he was still no match for raylan.

Anyone know the jacket Boon is wearing here? It’s not Barbour or Orvis. It’s killing me, I want it lol

Bruh... you just got shot in the head and saved a little girl. You will be forgiven 😂

Aside from the "modernization" of Justified in City Primeval, biggest disappointment is that Raylan didn't keep Boon's hat.

But he kept his girl - no?

Nah, Boon's hat didn't fit him at all.

Haha I thought that was the only good part.

what do you mean by modernisation?
@TheHaunting5231 Жыл бұрын
@@gamblorrr The original Justified series took place mostly in rural Kentucky, specifically the mountain areas of Eastern Kentucky. By "modernization" I think he just means the new series is in Detroit, not small hollers in Kentucky

Boon, and really all of Markham’s goons, were all so epic and great, but all such wasted opportunities. I’ll forever say that the Crowe cousins should’ve been off’d early season 5 and then Markham and his guys introduced. THEN, bring in Boon in the S5 finale to have all of S6 to build up and give lots of time to.

Daryl Crowe was one of THE most annoying characters ever.
@ComedyBros5 Жыл бұрын
@@hellcat1401 Yep. Him and his brothers should’ve lasted maybe 2 episodes. Having him “outsmart” Raylan multiple times was so aggravating and just didn’t fit Daryl’s character.

Yeah, was really hoping to see more of Boon to have a better build up to the climax, he was badass, funny, but also creepy and scary at times, really interesting character that deserved more air time

My only disappointment in this scene is Boon dies thinking he killed Raylan.

I always thought Boon was such a wannabe haha. The way he pretended not to know who John Wayne is while aping every Evil Cowboy trope from every western movie ever was hilarious to me. Suuuure dude, I totally believe you aren't trying to be Jesse James.

Hollywood has been trying to find a way to write strong women. The only one on Justified that seems week is Raylan's ex. Love Ava. There is no bad scene with Loretta there. Mag is the perfect villain. And heck the Red headed Crowe, She is just perfect. Strong doesn't mean flawless. It's overcoming flaws strong doesn't mean the men are weak. Maybe stupid, but not weak. I would of prefer the ending, if Raylan didnt get up.
