Do y’all realize KZbin stars became stars because they started and then followed trends? Gabbi was a viner who moved to KZbin and did story times which were popular at that time. So popular she was accused of stealing peoples story times. Gabby is not a way maker. Everything Gabby did during her time on KZbin was on trend for that time period.

Yeah, I'll never be able to follow the narrative she pushes as being an early internet trailblazer. in another tiktok she said she built her youtube audience on "music and poetry." when in actuality she built the bulk of her millions of subscribers on her story times, cleaning videos, etc, from 2014-2016, generic stuff that a lot of people were doing at the time. the music and poetry came towards the end, from 2018-2020. if anything she was having to figure out how to *convert her channel and audience that had been built on storytimes and declutter videos into being interested in her poetry and music. before her big scandals in 2019, 2020, 2021 that got her name everywhere, i was vaguely aware of her from vine. and when her storytimes would pop up on my homepage, i didn't think "wow there's that unique trailblazer paving the way." she was doing what everyone was doing at the time, and making millions of views not because it was unique but because it was popular. youtube could have substituted any other story time youtubers to fill the spot she had on the homepage. i didn't really recognize her face or name until it was regularly in the news for scandals in 2019-2021. that's what made her unique in youtube history tbh, her series of scandals.

@@onlythelonely93 a lot of the younger generation doesn’t get that. KZbin was already its own platform that got flooded with viners. After that it changed drastically. Content was no longer original. And to your point, it trending content became heteronormative, racist, overtly homophobic, as well as physically dangerous, I attribute a lot of it to Shane Dawson but those creators saw long form content was bringing them more money.

we’ve definitely moved on from the 2014 tumblr/fandom mindset - obsessing over and making things you enjoy your entire life and personality has stopped being the norm. the other day (I’m so serious when I say this) I saw five copies of Dan and Phil’s “this amazing book is not on fire” at a thrift store. i had donated my copy to a completely different thrift store a little while back. it’s insane to me that I dropped the $30+ (give or take) on it and so many other internet personalities’ merch when I was a teenager. i hope this made sense I’ve had a glass and a half of wine rip

Gabbie Hannah campaigning and trying to rewrite her history, is giving narcissism. Would respect her more if she just honestly said she built her platform of story times and transitioned from there, or that she regrets having dodgy sponsors. But no she has to make grandiose white lies. She's so transparent.

TikTok really has been the great equalizer. While it’s relatively easy to make a TikTok and pump out a bunch, it’s also accessible to everyone. When everyone can do it with ease, it loses its magic. Whereas for KZbin, making long form content still requires time and effort. The bigger creators have stated multiple times that the key to their success has been maintaining a schedule. Side note: Gabby started by making sketches on Vine and then had the foresight to jump to KZbin, so her version of events is interesting. And as others stated before, it would have been nice if she had acknowledged her doing the same things TikTok influencers are doing now, but that would require some self awareness and I don’t think she is capable of that.

Honestly, I'm glad this is happening. There's so much going on right now (internet content wise) that is *not* quality stuff. Just because they spend money to make boring, short, annoying content that many people scrolls through doesn't mean it deserves real attention. You can absolutely consume light toned content that has quality and thought behind it.

All of those points Gabbie made…aren’t wrong. If she made more of those points without all of that mess behind her, she would be taken more seriously. Since she has been in the game longer than most of these content creators today, and she actually has a degree in business and marketing, she could’ve taught/helped younger content creators and made money that way. But she had to go and ruin that potential revenue and fame…with all of her drama.

I have never liked Gabby, so her opinion is irrelevant to me. I see nothing wrong with sponsored videos. I feel that KZbinrs put a lot of effort and time into their channels more so than any other platform and deserve any money they can make. As far as VidCon goes, it is way too expensive. There are only a few people I would like to meet, including you, but I would not spend over $300 to do so. I am not surprised at the low turn out this year. The USA is in ruins right now economically. We are struggling to keep food on the table, gas in our cars, and prices have skyrocketed everywhere. For anyone to think that their meet and greets didn't work out because of them is egotistical. It's not about them, it's about our wallets. We are struggling to survive!

Its a global crisis :( and very valid points. Id never pay that much for any event like that. Gabbie used to be entertaining as a funny story teller with an occasional think piece once in a while. Then she apparently thought she was an intellectual, talented celebrity who b*tched and villainized those who helped her build her career but got tired of her chit and thus were narcissistic abusers in Gabbie’s view. Thank goodness that got shut down QUICK. On this subject on a larger scale, change has always happened. There were record stores. There was MTV wich mainly showed music videos, you had to leave your house or have guests to socialize, etc. it’s different now but the same.

Living for being the closing comment 😂 But yeah, her argument was totally fine til the sudden swing into "well WE did it for the hobby and art and THESE KIDS AREN'T," the reality is just that content creation is now just more accessible for the general public. That means loads more hobbyists andd professionals all fighting for attention when before most of us were just goofy kids laughing at fred videos so much nick picked up his content for movies.

I think part of the conversation that's being left out is that some of the creators talking about this are acting as if their fans hate them and don't support them. Like... you wouldn't have had the opportunity to have a meet and greet if people /didn't/ support you, and people support creators in so many other ways by interacting with their media across platforms or subscribing to them or through donations or buying merch. Not a lot of people can afford these huge conventions (not just Vidcon) but find so many other ways to support creators and for some of the creators going into this situation like "well i guess i don't really have fans" is such a disservice to them. it's so weird.

I remember when KZbin was at its peak around 2013, people were infatuated with their favorite creators. As a generation this was the first time we saw normal people rising to fame by being on the internet, whilst also making great money. It was a new concept, and creators were much more excitable and animated back then. It's only natural that this internet influencer phenomenon would change over time. Trends come and go, even PewDiePie's views are down. I'm sure we will be having this same convocation when TikTok dies.

I feel like tiktok, like yes tiktok can definitely affect your attention span short term, maybe "mid" term lol but I mean... remember Vine? That was 6 seconds ONLY. (What Vine DID do, though, was legit fundamentally change comedic timing) and we were fine after that. Still used youtube during and after. I think we just use the two apps differently. I feel like youtube and tiktok, just like youtube and twitch, serve different purposes in different, nuanced ways. Twitch generally is for watching a handful of people that you genuinely vibe with(and maybe they do something in the meantime that you're into or just is entertaining). And you either watch a bit of their stream or you leave the whole thing playing while you do other things like work or chores. KZbin is generally for more deliberate daily breaks or time windows(like meal times, workouts, relaxing, etc.) Though youtube can also tend to be used like tv in the background like twitch. Tiktok is almost like 9gag(lol remember that one?) mixed with instagram and vine. I guess vine is a much simpler comparison by itself. They're just like drawn out memes i feel? I mean that very literally, not like "ugh SO long" I think thats up to whoever is watching

I think on the overall subject matter, it’s a cross between a change in the culture, and the pandemic. People aren’t connecting as much with tiktokers as they did youtubers, plus there’s such an oversaturation of content creators that people are now spreading out their support, as well as their time and effort, across many CCs instead of just 1-3 back in the day. Plus, many people can’t or don’t want to go to conventions right now, either to avoid getting sick or because of money being tight or both. When it comes to Gabbie, on the other hand, her head got too big from all the support and success she was getting, she thought she was invincible, and and pulled too much stupid if not cruel and abusive shit, so people got fed up and stopped watching/supporting. Didn’t help her that, despite what she says, she built up her platform by following trends, so her content has been pretty dispensable and was never interesting/amazing/unique enough to make up for her shitty personality.

Tbh, I would love to go to a KZbinr event or whatever. But, unfortunately, despite having a degree and working as an AP specialist, I cannot afford to travel ANYWHERE. All of my money goes to rent (unfortunately live in Florida, officially the LEAST affordable US state) and my car. I probably wouldn’t even be able to go to an event in my city, Orlando, because I’m always working or cleaning or tired. So. There’s also that. That a person in my position, five years ago, would have savings and a home and free time. But companies are so fucking reluctant to provide a living wage, and the government is so fucking stingy with UBI’s or any regulation, that a person in my position TODAY is simply surviving.

honestly not i'm 100% mad about how vidcon changed. i remember in 2012-2014 some creators were genuinely afraid for their lives because of the amount of mobs that would happen at vidcon and how insane it got. it was honestly a massive security issue that really made no sense. no person should be put on such a pedestal that hundreds of people but their safety and everyone else's safety at risk. i also think as the internet just because an extension of real life, it's not considered "special" to be creating on the internet. it's just the modern medium now. so to be honest, viewing content creators more as normal people rather than superior beings is a more healthy perspective anyway. especially with the age demographic that vidcon often is (teens), having to pay hundreds of dollars and wait in line just to see a person kind of reinforces that they should be put on a pedestal, which could create an unhealthy dynamic and could lend itself to g rooming. there is something to be said about the enjoyment of communities and fandom and hopefully we can hit the sweet spot of mutual excitement and community without going back to old vidcon level of insanity.

Honestly, I had like 2 or 3 of my tik toks get up to around 50K views with about 15K likes and I remeber going from a couple followers to about 7 hundred and then my views went back to what I was getting before those videos. Tik Toks algorithm is meant for that. Even though people I followed would show up on my fyp, it wasn't enough for a steady stream of views honestly. So, theres a huge difference between tiktok creators and youtube creators, there are very few tiktok creators that actually produce content, like actively create something. Theres lots on there but its mostly short form storytimes or meme compilations. it all depends on which part of tiktok the algorithm puts you in. There are creators that i have moved from tiktok to youtube for, most podcasts who posted clips on tiktok [Ladies and Tangents] But as for youtube, despite it chokeholding itself, there are creators whos content is damn amazing, Night Docs for example, Nexpo, MamaMax, The Paranormal Files ect these guys are giving us hour long [plus] videos and its QUALITY. so yeah, that would be worth going to pay money to see those guys but tiktokers feel more like, random people. their not influencers, their just literally any old person with a smartphone. And while anyone can upload to youtube it takes something to stand out and have people stick around.

Awwww nbx and corpse bride♡♡♡ ones of my 2 fav of tim burton animated movies... i have an idea of tattoos.. i want zéro of nbx with scraps the Victoria dog of corpse bride and Sparky from Frankenweenie the animated version with irl version together. after I want many more but omg it will be $$$$$.. do you think it will be cute? Gabbie GaGa GooGoo can say something intelligently SOMETIMES BUT she did everythings she againsts of rn.. i HATE TikTok.. i tried but i prefer longer videos and the way we are more closer with youtubers... its not just ads and stuffs to buy... i hâte short videos..im maybe to old to love it.. but i hate videos with just some "dancing moves" ... for me its not "real" people its just dances... youtube i am more a close interaction with them... and whatever the age they have... i hate the word influencer.. influencers for me its more for tiktokers who influence people to buy their "products of the moment" they sale (more teens than the other age are influence and im against it... its serious... and tiktok don't care) yes youtube does it too and i disagree with it. I hate youtube for a lot of things but youtubers make videos with love... (youtubers i love) because à lot of them don't. KZbin its not a 15 30 secs or 1m + videos... yes it takes time but... i hate it ... something in the plate-form i hate it so much... its impersonal... just dancing... yes they have other funny content but ... god damn... i just can't love it.. i really tried. Alexandra sends you a sign to tell you she's here with you♡♡♡

being able to agree with someone who you usually don't feel sympathy for is called 'grown up'. celebrate it, it shows you are grown up.

You don’t develop the same kind of emotional parasocial relationship with tik tokers as you do with KZbinrs. 100 1 minute videos doesn’t give your viewers enough depth of your personally to connect and bond with it. You’re like yeah I’d be ecstatic to get to take a pic with you if I seen you in public, but I’d never spend actual money to come see you because at the end of the day, you don’t really mean that much to me.

I wish people allowed Gabbie to just do her shit in peace now. She is interested in her music, not in views. Peple are calling her "irrelevant" and perhaps she is to y'all but geez...don't watch her if she bores you.and move on.
