"people will only be as healthy as their self-worth" Man, that hits pretty deep. It's something that seems quite obvious when you think about it, but I don't think most people look at it that way.

Never watched one of these live, but this has recently become my absolute favorite podcast! Gabrielle Lyon is an awesome amalgam of a doctor who really pushes resistance training and not only understands, but also educates and promotes the importance of muscle in a way I haven’t seen before. Just yesterday I was listening to the first episode with her, and then I saw this! I had to put it on. Cheers Power Project fam!

The geriatric section sadly applied to my grandfather. he read the nonsense online about calorie restriction and longevity and lacked the data to properly make a decision, instead he switched to a very low calorie, protein deficit vegan diet. His health deteriorated rapidly and he passed away within a year

Sorry for your loss! It's hard losing a grandparent too soon or what you felt was too soon. My grandma (mom's mom) passed away in January 2016, which was about a month and a half after her 76th birthday. Her already poor health took a turn for the worse about a year or two before she passed. She wasn't a vegan though!

The Sydney Diet Heart Study showed that consuming seed oils which are high in omega 6 vs saturated fats increased death rate from all cause mortality, heart disease death, and cardio vascular issues by a significant margin across 7 years, with a 62% higher death rate. Seed oil causing issues might not be in her top 5, but it probably should be since only severe obesity and smoking were considered more deadly risk factors cited. For perspective the study cites the following, "That means that eating an oily restaurant meal could have the same detrimental effect on your health as chain smoking a pack of 20+ cigarettes, in one sitting."

Another thing to be super aware about is that plant based meats and lab meats and the mechanisms on producing them can be patented. You can't patent meat. Any one with money or that has inherited a farm can raise cattle, chicken, pork, etc While I do think overeating red meat can be bad and I'm not one of these people that dismiss cholesterol entirely, I do think nutrition research is flawed and the generalizations they draw from epidemiology studies lack the evidence to really substantiate the claims they make.

Doctors can indeed prescribe AAS. I was prescribed therapeutic doses of Nandralone (Deca) to aid in recovery from cervical disc replacement, C6 and C7. I was listening to Dr. Peter Attia on Andrew Huberman’s podcast, and he spoke of prescribing Anavar. Maybe there are some AAS not produced by pharmaceutical companies, but the statement ‘doctors cannot prescribe AAS’ is not completely true. Some AAS can be prescribed for some medical conditions. Is Dr. Lyon only referring to specific conditions?

the answer is no. we've have been consuming it since humans first evolved unlike almost everything else in our modern diets, Stan Efferding has teamed up with a nutritional scientist to write about this in depth, Paul Saladino also explores this topic and is obviously well qualified to do so.

Sumo wrestlers aren't allowed to eat in the morning, then they work out for hours until lunch when they can reload on mass amounts of energy. They aren't considered morbidly obese because of the mass amounts of skeletal muscle they have compared to their body fat, muscle, exactly what she promotes. She should go learn more about sumo people who fast like 16-17 hours a day and emphasize muscle building over cardio instead of joking that they can eat all the time.

As a strategic, non partisan eater of all foods. Why do we politicize our food? Most of this is anecdotal for longevity and even Dr Lyon said she gives her body a break from eating prim. protein and fasts and only eats veggies and fruits for one week supposedly every other month or so; so even she has some reservations about eating prim. large amounts of protein. What isn’t anecdotal is moderate exercise is necessary for active individuals and moderate and clean protein for those active persons for recovery and you have to reach your own conclusion and customize your individual diet/ fasting regiment based on your genetics and blood testing ie. high or low blood sugar, pre-diabetes, vitamin D deficiency? Also, she portrays a stereotypical myth that groups of centurions like in parts of Japan and the Mediterranean are small and bed-ridden in their last 10 years bc they’re not “jacked” ? ; so why even try to learn from those lifestyles/ cultures? Are you serious? but that is false and misguided opinion and at that age calcium deficiency and hip fractures are more of an issue than just protein and muscle by itself. Those were not well thought opinions by her and surprisingly stupid and childish. Those cultures incorporated fasting, Vit D from the sun, healthy doses of fish oil from diets and most importantly - they’re diets have high sources of antioxidants which you can’t get from just Meat as your Only dietary source. Her opinions on pure , healthy longevity is only partially correct. You can’t live in a vacuum of primarily Only Meats OR Only veggies. Don’t peg a square into a circle to fit your narrative.
