While many projects of our greenhouse build are time consuming, constructing the GAHT (ground to air heat transfer system) also called climate battery, has been very intricate and delayed the backfilling of our greenhouse foundation. We finalize the system in this video, including installing the vertical pipes that well enter the greenhouse area.

👍 Nice job, looking great. Lotta' work. Gonna' be nice. Gotta' get that Milwaukee 3" Cut Off Tool, it'll pay for it's self in no time in just less frustration alone, much less the speed at which you get things done.

Nice job. Making progress. FWIW, I miss your former intro song. When it played as your video started, I felt all was right with the world.

I guess it does slide a little easier down the metal, I had hoped it would be better than that.. You guys are doing a great job 👏, hopefully you will finish this soon before the snow comes..

try vibrating the ramp. Lots of videos on KZbin. Most guys use a sawzall without a blade in it from underneath or on the side of the ramp.

Hey Kid's.....gonna make it before the snow starts?.....here in Arizona we had our first dusting of snow in our White Mountains....about a couple of inches. Another great video.....Be safe.

We had about an inch on Friday, but the forecast looks pretty dry. We will likely get the backfill done over the next 2 weeks, but the dome construction will probably see some snow.

@@ColoradoMountainLiving You`ll be disappointed when it doesn`t deliver the cooling performance you expect in the summer time. You`ll be equally disappointed when you have to deal with the 90% + greenhouse relative humidity levels on cold nights which will happen when the system is used for heating. The dilemma you face in the future is whether to leave it in the ground and pretend its working as expected (most popular choice) or dig it all back up and fix the issues (almost never happens). Time will tell i guess.

Great job. We are buying the 26' greenhouse from the same place. Didn't catch your size but appears larger. We're in Illinois and actually putting in a spa tub instead of the pond. BUT will likely add the GAHT design as well.(website stated $750 for just plans. Which is more than I want to spend) Need to figure out the fan size though. Look forward to seeing what more you do with it.
@ColoradoMountainLiving
@ColoradoMountainLiving 12 күн бұрын
That's great! The spa will probably contribute a significant amount of humidity, so hopefully the GAHT makes that easier to manage. We are building the 33" size. The GAHT process has been quite expensive for us, given our rocky terrain (excavation costs), and concrete (6ft walls- engineering spec due to our climate and snow & wind requirements). But hoping it will all be worth it to have year round usability.

Spend your hard earned $750 on something more worthwhile than a GAHT plan. You`ll need 700ft of tubing for a 26ft dome. The fan should be sized to put the entire greenhouse air volume underground at least 20x per hour. In the case of a 26ft dome this equates to 1,250 cfm. The tubing layout has a huge impact on how much air the fan can deliver. A fan capable of delivering 1250cfm @ 0" wc wont deliver 1250cfm when its attached to the system due to the frictional losses. Fwiw, a 33ft dome requires 1,100ft of tubing and 2,460 cfm. If the tubes are 19ft long and there are 34 of them, that is only 650ft. It is very important to modify the tubing by cutting a straight shallow slit just through the outer wall of the ribs to ensure the condensate can fully drain. If you check the video at 1:45 you can clearly see the drainage slits are located between the ribs. Without this modification, condensate will collect in the bottom of every corrugation, which is bad for several reasons, the main one is its extremely detrimental for the heating performance. I advised these guys to do the tubing modification before they installed it but, unfortunately, they didn`t act on it. Once the tubing is in the ground, there`s nothing that can be done..

@@ColoradoMountainLiving Thanks for the reply. I'm investigating if I can bury the system without encasing it in a wall under the dome.

@@EVANTHORSON I`ve had a SHCS (subterranean heating and cooling system) installed under a dome greenhouse since 2009. Fwiw, Cere`s used to charge $600 for a plan that isnt worth even $100 and now they want $750. You can be sure they haven`t changed anything to make it worth an extra $150. What you save by not buying the plan will pay for your tubing.

@@ColoradoMountainLiving couldn’t you build a ramp with soil. Then as you fill in on the inside of the wall that would help stabilize the wall from the inside.

Any special reason you are using perforated 4 inch pipe for the heat exchanger. Any risk water might get into it
@ColoradoMountainLiving
@ColoradoMountainLiving 14 күн бұрын
This is what is recommended by multiple companies we've researched. The small perforations will also help release any water back into the ground.
@JohnGuest45
@JohnGuest45 9 күн бұрын
@@ColoradoMountainLiving The small perforations are not in the right location to help release water back into the ground. If you have a tubing offcut, pour some water into it and see how much water is trapped in the corrugations with no way to drain out.

Applying tape to all of the external seams to make the dome watertight is the most time consuming job. I wouldn`t attempt it in cold weather unless you enjoy tracking down leaks.
