I think the "Adult" symbols and hearts are actually kind of representative of not just kami, but the concepts of adulthood responsibility and love. She's basically "adulting" to take care of the situations thrown her way, or using the power of friendship (As in, love between a group of people that binds them together) to overcome them.

Always fun to learn more cultural lore of Japan. And I have to say, that the moment the mirror showed up in the footage for the first time, I *IMMEDIEATELY* thought of the Yata-no-Kagami. And I can never think of just one of the Regalia without thinking of the other two as well. And while I can easily blame the Naruto series for hammering the name of the Kusanagi into my head, I honestly feel ashamed that I can never remember the exact name of the specific magatama that joins its brethren without having to look it up. I think it's the 'Yasakani', but I'm almost certainly wrong. I'd happily welcome corrections you could provide, Gaijin. Side note, I am pleasantly surprised to see that the next cultural video is gonna be about Yojimbo Usagi. I remember reading some of the comics that came State-side in the early 90's, so to learn more about one of the first characters to spark my love of Japan is always going to be ejoyed.

Yasakani no Magatama is indeed the correct name. And if you can blame Naruto for hammering Kusanagi into your brain, then I will admit that most of why I know the Three Sacred Treasures is purely due to the King of Fighters video game series, particularly that the clans who originally sealed the chaos god Orochi were actually named for the treasures. It was one heck of a shock to find out that this stuff actually borrowed so strongly from actual mythology...who'd have thought that a fighting game would go that deep on lore?

Doesn't the cut out of her dress look a great deal like a heart? She's also undeniably adult. The Kami that Pocky merges with is of a very similar design and they're also very clearly allied with each other. Pocky is likely calling upon her.

A fun "Which Ninja" idea. The Ninja job class from Final Fantasy, specifically FFXI. Trust me, it's a tool-heavy job in this one, with spells learned from scrolls, an elemental wheel system where one cast spell causes a weakness to the element of the next one in the wheel and the spells use tools instead of MP, thrown and handheld weapons, even access to bows and some guns. And that Relic/Mythic/Empyrean armor is nice to look at also.

I know I've mentioned this a few times before, and it could make an interesting Which Ninja? video, but I'm still curious as to how true to form as a Ninja The Phantom is. Once again, for those unfamiliar with the character, The Phantom is a masked superhero that dresses in a purple and black suit and has pair of guns at his sides, a skull-shaped signet ring on one hand that is likely made from iron, and a ring signet ring that looks like four swords making a cross with their tips all meeting on the hand opposing the skull ring. The Phantom is also known by the monikers of "The Ghost Who Walks" and "The Man Who Can Not Die" and is a protector of the people and culture of the small African jungle nation he usually resides in. The thing is, The Phantom isn't actually one person; the mantle of The Phantom is passed down from one generation to the next to help generate the illusion that it's some person, and each Phantom is really just an ordinary human that has trained their body to the limits of what is physically possible for the average human. There are even some segments of the comic where the current Phantom is shown teaching their successor about some things they need to know, like how the Skull Ring can leave the mark it does without severely injuring the one it marks; the Skull Mark is a mark made with the Skull Ring to help identify someone as a villain that has faced The Phantom. It might not be the best introduction to lead into the character, but I was first introduced to The Phantom via the 1996 movie, also titled The Phantom, starring Billy Zane in the title role. There are quite a few bits of the comic to go through with the Phantom, seeing as he first was seen in comic strips as far back as February of 1936, which means he actually predates Batman, and is even cited as one of the inspirations (at least visually) for the character of Batman.

Hypothesis: Pocky serves Ame-no-Uzume-kami-sama and the "adult" and "heart" on her ofuda are references to Ame-no-Uzume-kami-sama's more "adult" lore. I don't know how much water that carries as an argument but She is a Goddess that did a striptease and is married to a fertility deity so maybe that's why? Funny thing about the party that lured Amaterause out of the cave: It was Ame no Uzume herself that really got the kami going, by dancing so wildly and, in some versions, topless, and completely without any shred of grace, that the kami roared in laughter and kicked off the festivities. That, and in another version I read (or maybe the same, it's been a while) some kami stood before the cave entrance and claimed to have found a goddess even more radiant than dear Amaterasu, furthering her curiosity. And, looking at Ame no Uzume in this version, well, she doesn't really bother to hide her chest, so yeah...

@Gaijin, This is just a theory regarding the Ofuda Pocky uses, after a great deal of tin foil hat thinking and research regarding Ame no Uzume, and I believe there is a connection between the Ofuda and Ame no Uzume. now bear with me: 1. in the tale where Amaterasu hides herself in a cave, Ame no Uzume's "performance" is effectively a Burlesque dance performance, something is more of an adult entertainment. 2. the heart symbol Ofuda can be taken any sort of ways, as hearts tends to have many different meanings, ranging from passion, to Central wisdom as opposed to Headed-wisdom of reason. the heart also being a central symbol of the moral, emotional, spiritual and even the intellectual substance of a person. Seeing as Ame no Uzume is the Kami of Dawn, but also Merriment, Revelry, Meditation and the Arts. the "Adult" Kanji seems to represent the more.... adult side of Ame no Uzume (Merriment and Revelry, as that tends to involve drinking and partying), while the heart represents her Moral, emotional and even Intellectual side, her morality and intellect allowing her to formulate the plan that brought Amaterasu out of hiding, and her emotion and passion was put into her dance.

I tried looking around for what's on the ofuda, but I got a lot of spiritualist websites in JP that I don't have time to look through. Most of them talk about different ways to use them for protection and to use in your house like you state and for different purposes much like omamori. Also saw a bunch listed on mericari which just seems wrong for getting a kami's help, but whatever. What I did find interesting was that rather than 御札 a lot of places were calling them 護符、霊符、or 呪符. At the very least that may help in research to narrow down instead of checking for all ofuda. There's a number of sites talking about how to make your own and even different shrines' designs. It was info overload for me, but I wonder if there's more in intent than in the characters. Some of the more old timey ones look more pictographic or even have bagua, which lead me to wonder if the idea of ofuda being a weapon against monsters and ghosts were outside influence from like when onmyoudo was popular and combined ideas from Chinese Taoism. I think there could be something there since classically Jiangshi have a talisman stuck to their heads and a number of Japanese sites in my search also were people talking about the 護符 for キョーンシ so talking about the same monster. On the Jiangshi side they are known to have a weakness to Taoist talismans and Taoist talismans are said to be for purifying and driving away demons. Wiki for Fulu lists that ofuda are a derivation of the Chinese counterpart so while daily use seems incongruous to how it's used in the game, the history of the idea of the item into another culture seems to imply a valid reason for the design and use. Also the 大人 written there is probably only two of the characters on the talisman. When I tried to check for the meaning I found an onmyouji site selling ones for 接大人符, so you saw only two of the characters cuz of how she's holding it. It says it's supposed to connect to a great person or something in order to get good fortune.

This actually makes me want to try and make a shinto style cleric for d&d. Just not sure what subclass it'd be.

Hearing the mention of Go-shintai in this video makes me curious if you'll talk about the shrines of MTG. The Go-shintai are interesting shrines that are not only enchantments, but also creatures, and I would like to learn about the Japanese mythology that might have influenced this.

Able to turn leaves into other items? Sounds just like the Animal Crossing items.
