I bought the Code 25 to replace the JCM 2000 DSL 100 I was using 15 years ago in my old band, (which I later sold, because I didn't need it anymore) for some 15th anniversary recording sessions that I'm trying to line up with my old band mates. I've got to say, the Code modelling is pretty great, but the ability to modify my amp settings to swap the power amp section, really has given me much better control over my sound. Which makes me incredibly excited about this amp series. The pricing is perfect, because as a guy who mostly writes and records for fun now, I can't justify buying a $1000+ half stack anymore, but the Code 100 half stack I may have to pick up in the near future, in case I ever need more power hanging around.

I love my little Code 100H ! Most demos I see have people over-using the effects. For me, especially with this amp, less is more in regards to it's capabilities. But again it's a personal preference, and tone is subjective...........after that, time will tell! Thankx

I have a Marshall CODE50, I replaced the speaker with a JENSEN 100 watt 4 Ohm speaker and I worked on setting the sounds and the sound was amazing and it became much louder. I don't know what kind of speakers Marshall installs in it, but they are not typical guitar speakers, but broadband speakers for MP3. I also think that the CODE100 head sounds better under 2x12" or 4x12" speakers.

New bedroom amp!! I was gonna get an orange crush, but thought stuff it, I'll just get the half stack and put my little combos up In the loft. Once you get this dialled in to your ear this thing absolutely rocks. I'd advise on getting the better footswitch for playing sets, also using the app to help fine tune tones, and then using the better footswitch to compare the two makes a massive difference in getting your tones set up faster. Also I must say Marshall have came a long way with the digital stuff, I had an mg30dfx and vowed to never touch another digital amp again after that.

I assume that you would turn the cab simulators OFF when actually using a real cab?
@templatemusic
@templatemusic 7 жыл бұрын
They don't market it like that, but I've been wrestling with this amp for about a month now and it sounds significantly better with them turned off. When you plug the amp into a computer, the cab sim function clearly sounds like it loads an IR when you push the button. And the Marshall CODE 4x12 is not an FRFR speaker enclosure. They say it's "custom voiced", but it really does sound wrong when the cab sim is on.
@AndyK.23
@AndyK.23 7 жыл бұрын
Mike Mills Interesting. I'm guessing the cab simulators are just EQ added to boost whatever frequency, and maybe a hint of delay to simulate a cabs airiness. Makes zero sense to run it thru Greenbacks, and then simulate Vintage 30's!
@tonyl6203
@tonyl6203 6 жыл бұрын
I'm the same way, I think for the gain tones at least, the amp sounds better with the cab sims off. But I noticed in this video on the gain sounds he's using (that sound really good) he has the cab sim on. To me though, when the cab sims are on, it flattens the tone of the amp. It sounds much fuller with the cab sim off to me.

Code100 is designed for a 8ohm cab load, 16ohm cab would work but volume would be low, 4ohm cab is too low and would allow to much current flow in your amp probably causing a meltdown/fire.

Any cab can work, but the code is designed for the sounds it needs, I use the code cabinet for my fender mustang V2 150 watt head because the Marshall code cabinet is 200 Watts and only paid$100 for it, well worth it.

Hold on a second. You're saying what makes this amp unique is that it models different pre-amp and power-amp sections which can be mixed to create your own virtual amp? The Blackstar TVP and Yamaha THR100 amps both do this and I'm fairly certain they were released before Code. I'm also pretty certain there are software modellers that predate Code which allow this too. A random person on the internet (myself) shouldn't be better informed than both someone that works in a music shop and a representative from an amp company.

@@theronslee214006 What does that have to do with anything I said? They claim that the ability to mix and match preamp and power amp sections is what makes this product unique and separates it from other modelling amps, which isn't true. They didn't say "unique at this price point".

I own the fender mustang v2 1 and 4 and a gt40 and they all do it pretty well. The guitars used between all the types i play are fender american standard with active emg's, gibson les paul studio hp with burstbucker pro's, gison sg special hp with mini humbuckers, esp ltd ec-401qm and a schecter demon 6. Tony L thanks for the reply. I got the 100h head and the 412 cab for it but ended up returning it. After messing around with it for a couple weeks i just didnt like the sound. Maybe it was the cab but everything sounded boxy if that makes sense. I have three fender mustang amp that sound way better. At least to me. I got a line six valve hd100 head and a cab instead of the code. And was it just me or was the output for headphones super under powered? The volume level at max was so quite to me.
@tonyl6203
@tonyl6203 6 жыл бұрын
I never actually used the headphone jack, so I'm not sure. ;-) It's definitely an amp you have to spend a LOT of time with. I got the 100 watt 2x12 combo and almost sent it back about 5 different times! :-p I wound up setting a few decent rhythm tones, lead tones and clean tones and then took it to a gig. I was adjusting things after every damn song, but after 2 sets of tweaking, the third set it sounded fantastic. But if I wouldn't have put it to the test in a live gigging situation, I more than likely wouldn't have kept it. As it is now though, I definitely dig having all the tones and effects in a lightweight 2x12 combo. :-)

he means a cab with decent speakers. The CODE speakers are budget speakers to meet a low price point. They are OK but not great. I would have happily paid an extra $50 for my CODE 50 to come with a better speaker. WGS Veteran 30 and ET65 are supposed to be two good affordable choices. The CODE speakers are fairly flat response, so the presets might have to be tweaked quite a bit to use the CAB portion of the modeling.

You can turn the cab emulation off, it's a single led lit button on the row along the top. Then you will just have the the two amp sections being modeled and passed on to the speaker without the cab emulation. It's a shame that the smaller codes don't have a speaker out. Though you can probably add one easily enough if your not worried about the 3-5 year warranty.
