Thank you! I loved both islands shown on this day. The entire trip was amazing, but this is one of the days that stood out to me.

The lava walk looked amazing, but I think I’d have been spoilt for choice with the zodiac ride too!

Hi Gary. That’s an interesting point, and if you get down there, consider that there are zodiac rides available throughout the islands, but only one place with lava. Besides, like I did, you can send any partner out on the zodiac while you do the lava 😂 Thank you for watching!

The lava segment was almost haunting. Very interesting. Great shots by Holly of the brown pelicans. I didn’t realize with expedition cruising you have a choice of excursions. Do you have to decide those in advance, or just make your choice same day on the ship? Thanks for another great vlog.

Thank you! The lava was like being on the moon. Regarding excursions, you hear about them the night before in a briefing, and that’s where you make your decision.

Nice to see the Xpedition, the ship we took in 2018, from a distance. (BTW - liked the detail of the fancy rotating mooring platform on the Flora - from one of your previous videos in this series.) I first walked on new lava on the Big Island, when Kilauea's Pu'u O'o cone was generating flows in the 1990's. It was ropey "pahoehoe" lava, like in your video. We walked to the edge of the active area, and asked the ranger how hot the ground was deep beneath our feet. She said, "Let's see!" and poured her bottle of water into the cracks - it immediately boiled back up.

That’s a great experience in Hawaii. It was really otherworldly just walking around the place!

Wow, that's just amazing. Tell me Bob what was it like to walk on solidify lava? And what a way to explore the other island with the hike to the top. It's just the photographer in me but I would of stopped so many time to admire the views and take photos. Great vlog as always

Thanks, Arthur!. Walking on solid lava was awesome. It was 'crinkly' (the sound of walking on the surface was somewhere between sand and glass/pebbles - just strange) in many parts, though too windy for me to let that otherwise be heard.

I think if I was walking on the lava I would have twisted my ankle in seconds.

As usual, your video pulls me in. As you came off the newest lava flow and went on to the dirt like area, I heard water bubbling. This surprised me since, to this point, I'd seen no evidence of fresh water. Still seeing none, I began to wonder if it was just sound effects. Then I looked up to find it was just my Keurig brewing my coffee! 😂
