Of all the videos I had watched to replace the charging port, this was the only one that helped. As a newbie to tearing down a phone, I watched at my own pace (pausing when needed) and did everything shown. In the end, I only lost one screw for the backing BUT my S5 is charging now.

@Sunshine-ci6wx2 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Do you still repair these phones?
@gr8safi13 жыл бұрын
To separate your screen from the mid-frame you need a couple of hours. The Copper shield is very tricky as the home button ribbon is attached to it with adhesive and one has to be very careful not to cut it. Also the return & App killer buttons at the bottom one has to be very careful, you need plenty of patience and with the aid of surgical spirits (clear alcohol) 2 loosen the adhesive. Use of a syringe and needle helps a lot.

This is a good video. Thank you. Question: Do you know of the screen parts vary in design/compatibility by carrier?

I dont think so. I know sometimes the internal parts vary slightly, but since Samsung is the only manufacture of the AMOLED screens I would say they are all the same.
@RobertBarnett0910 жыл бұрын
JerryRigEverything That's what I was thinking/hoping for. I hate parts that vary by carrier (CDMA-GSM) It makes things unreasonably complicated. I know the S3 and S4 screen parts were the same... I'd hope they didn't decide to switch it up.

I've noticed the multiple people use "LCD" when referring to the display. The Galaxy S5 uses an OLED (specifically AMOLED) display, not an LCD. I only bring this up because the two display types have some fairly different properties. The video was good though. Thanks for sharing.

So the heating method you use to separate the screen is obviously a heat gun. Have you used any other methods to do this that any of us would have around are homes besides a blow dryer? I just had an idea but not sure if it's a good one. Lol. I've been eyeballing my iron for a half an hour now wondering if a good amount of material (linen, washcloths, heavy cotton something or other) could help buffer as well as conduct heat to the screen. Applied in a slow and careful manner of course. Your thoughts and opinion would be greatly appreciated! Great video btw! keep um comin!
@JerryRigEverything9 жыл бұрын
+kalea dean Thank you. I have had 2 people say they successfully used an iron... BUT without a temperature sensor to make sure you arent melting your phone... it seems dangerous to me.... BUT if you watch it close enough... maybe it will work.
@kaleadean39538 жыл бұрын
First of all thank u for responding so quickly and I apologize for not thanking u sooner. Happy to report the iron idea worked! First try too. I wanted to practice on an old broken phone no one in my house would even consider being seen in public with (iphone 5s, I know, I live with a bunch of phone snobs) but the glass wasn't broken. The problem was internal and really not worth fixing. So I figured I had nothing to lose and successfully separated the glass from the digitizer and lcd and neither of them broke using my iron set on low, a pillow case and 4 playing cards. I forgot the most important tool of all was PATIENCE.

Awesome video! I dropped and cracked the glass on my screen 2 months back and was finally going to attempt to replace just the glass on the display earlier today. Before I even took anything apart however my display went black, if i fiddled with the buttons the display would light up with a stationary static pattern for a while until i locked it. The bottom buttons lit up and it was making notification noises, and low battery noises. Jerry, does this sound like something came loose connecting the display or have the cracks and continued wear finally killed my display?

Good tutorial! I do have a question. Using the old adhesive to fasten the screen back down, will the phone still be as water repellant with no issues??? My sister has a boat dock at her house and kayaks. The phone stays in two baggies unless she takes a picture, which means there is a chance it could get wet. I gave my old S5 to her, but inserting a new SD card the phone is not recognizing it. (I did check the card with another device, and try another SD in the S5.) A new port is resonably priced. I do wish you had revoved the sd card slot as well, but I'm sure I can find it somewhere. Thank you!

Jerry from reading some comments you're an absolute credit. Anyway, purely cosmetic but I've got scratches and bumps to the silver trim around the S5 when it fell to the floor. Can this replaced alone? Is there a part number? Do I still have it strip it to the point of 3 mins in your film? Thanks.

I guess my question is, is the screen a separate part from the LCD, or is the screen all encompassing? I just dont want to buy the screen and have it be a different problem. Thanks again!
@JerryRigEverything10 жыл бұрын
The screen includes the Glass and the LCD so all you have to do is buy the whole unit, and plug it in. Should only take about 30 minutes. Watch my Galaxy s5 glass only replacement video to get a good idea of how its done. (Even though you are just replacing the whole screen, and not just the glass.)

Would you be willing to do a glass only tutorial? My S5 fell from my pocket while tying my shoe and landed on a rock. The digitizer and LCD work perfectly just the lens on the top is cracked. WOW, I can't believe you took the entire cell apart. Question for you-I just had my screen replaced on my S5 after a friend dropped it and cracked the screen. After the lady had it fixed the bottom two LCD lights would not come on(the back button and brower button). She mentioned she would get me another screen. When I got home, I googled why this would occur and it mostly mentioned using a spudger tool in the wrong way. She may have used too much force to pry it off. At home I also noticed my LCD lights no longer worked as well in the top right corner. Also, I get some serious issues now with screens popping up, like twitching from screen to screen, texts that jump all over the place and fonts changing. WTH is this? Any idea's when I go back to her today and ask her? Thank you. Mike

I was trying to pry the adhesive as you did, but I guess I'm not as steady. But this shouldn't cause the LCD to not come back, should it? Does the back of the LCD display have a lot of adhesive attaching it to the phones mid frame? Your video makes it look like it doesn't. I've repaired previous versions of this phone and they usually have a ton of adhesive on the back of the lcd display.
@JerryRigEverything10 жыл бұрын
You are correct. There is no adhesive to worry about with this phone. The 4 and 4s were a nightmare to swap out. The 5, 5c, and 5s are much easier.

lol, shoot. I mixed up the videos we were commenting on. Alright, so you are still right. What I removied in this particular video was the glass + LCD combo. It is SUPER thin, but it is still glued together. (I think. Nobody has actually made a video on the separation yet.) The 'just the glass' repairs on S3 and S4 do have a ton of adhesive holding them down, and i assume the s5 is the same way.

Can you do a video showing how to replace the charger port protector? Mine tore off.
@JerryRigEverything10 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. As soon as I find a place that sells the replacement protectors, i'll rip my own off for the video.

Thank you very much! I wasn't rough to the cover or anything, I just folded it back today to play the cord in and it just broke off.

It is much easier replacing the whole lcd unit. Go that route.

Hey Jerry, is there any way to replace the chrome bezel that goes along the edges of the phone? Mine already has quite a bit of chipping but my cell provider wants me to pay the deductible to replace it. Thanks in advance.

Hey my screen does not work anymore after getting phone wet in cold water when the phone was very hot, the phone does turn on and I can connect the phone to HDMI to tv, I hope the digitizer or a screen cable is just slightly corroded since it has had 6 months to dry. Do I have to heat and take the screen of the phone off to access these connectors? I am assuming so, It would just be easier without screen disassembly.

Hey Jerry, Do you know where I would get a mother board for an s5? mine got fried recently!

I was recently given an old S5, and both the speaker and charging port need to be replaced. I've repaired phones in the past, but since you need to remove the screen first, I'm worried I might break it...

can you do a lcd and screen replace for a galaxy s5 active, or would it be the same as removing a screen from a galaxy s5
@JerryRigEverything10 жыл бұрын
Joshua Fautheree I have not yet worked on one of those phones... but it should be pretty similar to the Galaxy s5

Hey so I had a horrible accident with my S5. One day u woke up to my phone with the battery light red but the phone was fully charged. I don't know what happened so I Took the battery out. Come to see my phone was all wet inside. It was so weird. Not outside or anything. All the waterproof covers were on properly. I think my phone is ruined i want to cry. It's not even 3 weeks old. I put it in rice and put it to dry. Now my front rear camera dried with some of the water that got inside and is useless. Idk if the phone will be the same after this accident. An opinion on what should I do. The phone wasn't submerged into water. The most I could think of is that I might have put it on a wet table camera down. I just don't get how the water got in there. It seems to be working fine but I'm concern about the camera also. Thank you so much

Just watched your KZbin video after having some trouble with my Galaxy S5. My wife dropped it and broke the screen. Everything still worked but we had a local guy replace the screen. The problem is now the phone cannot get a signal. The signal strength bar shows an "X". Not an expert on this obviously or I would have fixed it myself but I believe he replaced the glass/LCD/digitizer as he said the part alone cost $130. He is trying to tell us that nothing he did should have effected the signal but he obviously damaged something. The phone worked fine 5 minutes before we gave it to him and the new display worked fine after he was done with it but we had and still have zero reception the first time we tried to use it less than 15 minutes after picking it up. Is there some type of ribbon, cable, etc that he might not have got hooked back up or damaged during this repair?

Hey Jerry, I'm think I'm having an issue with my sim card slot as it doesn't recognize any SIM cards anymore. I believe some water may have gotten on it while it was outside in the rain and got damp. Does the whole motherboard have to be replaced?

are there different versions of charging ports for the s5
@thypnotik10 жыл бұрын
Just wondering if all models (att T-Mobile etc) share the same parts. I'm looking to replace my charging port and I have the attached version but I was wondering if it makes a difference to look for an att version specific part.

*att version not "attached"

thypnotik Hey! Good question, The part numbers are all different. I just finished linking all of them in the video description of this video if you want to check it out. It looks like they are around 15 bucks at the moment.
