The reasons why I think I will get this phone next are: I love having a big screen on my phone and also wearing small cute purses. Sometimes I have to measure a purse before purchasing just to make sure my big phone fits in. Also I film my dancing often, just to make sure that my moves look correct and making the phone stand against something is always a burden. I think this phone is very useful for selfies and other girly things. Also the retro feeling of it gets me excited. Nostalgia at its finest.

@@michael8590 The problem with flagship smartphone prices rising this high is that it creates a perception that this situation is normal and that those prices are reasonable. As a consequence, the prices of "budget" smartphones are also adapting to the new norm. Like you said: "there are plenty of great phones in the $500 range". I would be fine with it if manufacturers could actually make smartphones into the one-device-to-rule-them-all. But so far, even with all their new features and horsepower, smartphones are still only good as a glorified communication device and music player. You still need desktops or laptops for any kind of serious work, like programming, video editing, and so on. It would be nice if one could connect their phone to a hub with a screen, mouse and keyboard and start working, but we are not there just yet (although there are a few projects already in the works). And this lack of productivity is only due to the lack of software infrastructure, the new phones that are coming out, even the budget ones, are more powerful than the laptops we had five years ago. Meanwhile, people's average salaries around the world are not rising up to match the increasing prices of devices and number of devices we need to purchase.

@otanix4 жыл бұрын
There are male users too who hate big phones. I've been waiting for the next iPhone SE but sadly Apple doesn't think iPhone SE's success was due to it's small size, so the rumored iPhone SE 2 is going to be a big normal phone. Even Sony is discontinuing the compact line of its flagship phones.
@MJ-uk6lu4 жыл бұрын
I dunno about that. I just got Galaxy A50 and that phone is huge. It doesn't fit into any pocket, it's impractically big and for something quick I just don't want to take it out out of my backpack. I can't reach the top corners of screen with a single hand and due to this massive form factor it's difficult to properly grip it. Phones got too big and something like Z Flip or Razr are just a curious glimpses into future. This or making screens smaller.

A case so that the screen doesn't need to make a crease. And inside the case you can keep other stuff, a laptop a tablet whatever. And when you unfold it, it can be held like a canvas on an easle for good ergonomics.

I like the fold form factor but the size is what gets me. The weird aspect ratios on both screens make it strange to use for anything. I’d love a fold that’s the size of a normal phone when folded, with a normal phone sized screen and a tablet sized screen inside. It would be so much more useful.
@xerzy4 жыл бұрын
Well, if "people with only small pockets" don't fit in "most people", then yes, this form factor doesn't suit most people. But I would like to point out that around half of the population tends to be like that. I do ultimately think that the Fold makes more sense tho, it's more society and fashion norms to blame for the Z Flip's utility than anything else.
@Zerosixious3 жыл бұрын
I can see how this phone could be good, and was contemplating this or the note from 2020. I returned the note, and got a Z Fold 2 after not feeling it was worth it over my Note 8. I a fold believer now. Even with tons of a bunch of weird app issues, a cracked front screen (gorilla glass Victus eh?), lack of good cases, and costing a ton... The Z Fold 2 has been an incredibly usable phone that I have got more use out of than most phones I have owned the last several generations. Having the extra space to work with emails and files is worth more than the stylus for working while not at work. The front screen can use some work, as it is a chore to use though. I will say I am now using an iPhone and iPad Pro for work, as they recently got us the iPads to save us from having to take a laptop home and on trips. With the seamless text and call on both devices, the overall better app comparability, and large workspace, I think this is the optimal combo over using a z fold. IOS still has some annoying issues that Android doesn't have, but I recognize that IOS and Android are both good for different reasons. I think IOS is better for work and for the average consumer. I would not give my Z Fold back though. It is so good for consumption of media, especially books and comics. I can't wait to see folding phones in the next few years.

TBH I don't think I'd have an issue with the plastic top layer; I put a film screen protector on everything and I've gotten so used to it that touching glass feels wrong, and I keep the same screen protector on for years so I wouldn't be bothered by the scratches. For the asking price though, well if I could even afford to buy the z flip I could probably afford to have the phone serviced whenever it got too bad.

I agree. It's great that there's variety and innovation is back in the smartphone industry. It's been really boring and yes, you do end up paying more for cutting-edge technology, but it has been worth it. For what it's worth, I'm really enjoying the Galaxy Fold. Sure there are some issues, but it's fantastic to use and some days I don't even unfold it as you don't need to.

Ppl saying it’s fake glass but if u look on their commercial, they say they used to use plastic and there switching to glass and then they put the plastic layer ONTOP of the glass and put it back in the phone

Very fair review of the phone. The cover display is great. If you look at it as a Notification LED on steroids. All the new $1000+ all screen phones don't have that feature at all now.

Yeah because they have a huge screen...? Lol

I do like this form factor. I don't need a phone that turns into a tablet, but I do need a "normal" sized smarphone that fits in my pocket. I have an iPhone7 plus, it does not fit. So this foldable phone is perfect for me. But the price is too much. Half of that I would pay. Great review, thanks!

I just ordered this. I couldn't resist - I rarely pay over 100 for my phone's but this one I just fell in love with! I can keep my older, very durable, cheaper smart phones at home on wifi and can use the Z as a true Phone on the go 😜

galaxy z flip is nice but why do they crack overtime in the middle of the screen??? when folding it for awhile!!

I use phones only when outside, and I live in the tropics (light, short clothes) so I want them as small as possible. And while this phone is still much too big for my taste (atm I use a chinese 3"), I would totaly buy a foldable 6" phone with the size of a traditional 3". Though, talking about the "always have to unfold" part, the screen has to become more robust so you can actualy leave it unfolded while at home.

Very interesting and informative video. Good to find out after all these years that I wasn't the only one to buy a Dell Streak!

You said "I find myself shirt wiping this phone..." literally as I was wiping my ZFold 3 off on my shirt for the same reason haha

I guess Samsung didn't want to put the "big specs" (flagship??) in the Z flip because I guess it's no use putting in this years specs or making it "flagship" since the who folding screen thing is in it's early days still...

A very nice review! Isn't it possible to use a screen protector for the Galaxy Z Flip? Cheers

Watching your channel for the first time on my Samsung Galaxy Z flip 5g. I've only had the phone for 2 days, everything's fine but I'm not sure ithis is the right form factor for me either. I enjoy the video

While I'm sure this phone is less durable, I'm willing to bet that the fact the screen won't be exposed to the elements most of the time will prevent a lot of light scratches, It was one of the reasons I loved my DS, the folding design completely negated the need for a screen protector. I'm also willing to bet that since the glass used for the screen is foldable, it'll survive drops better that tradition glass screens. (though the back is covered in glass for some god awful reason so a drop will certainly ruin the exterior.)

Good one Quin ~ The price is silly, but the tech is a step in the right direction.
