On December 18, 2019, West Edmonton Mall announced a licensing deal with Hasbro to transform its iconic Galaxyland Amusement Park into a Hasbro themed wonderland!

Interesting news. Sorry I missed the premier. I have been out of town for work, and just got home to this video now. Hopefully, some of the cheesiness of Galaxyland is removed to find a balance between what it is, and what it was. Considering the original Fantasyland lasted only about ten years, the current Cosmo blue and yellow fiberglass theme has certainly run its course for 25 years!!! Time for something new!!

I was first at Fantasyland somewhere around 1983 when the park was only partially completed, even the Mindbender was still under construction. I remember going on the Fantasyland Express which had some dude waiting at the exit to one of the tunnels ready to jump out and scare you as you exited. I far prefer that incarnation of the park to the current Galaxyland theme. It was all so '80s, and in a good way.

I've been rather obsessed with your videos on the mall for a little over a year now, so when I heard about the news a few days ago I went straight to your channel! Been waiting a couple of days to hear any news you could have, as I'm really excited for the addition. I know some will be sad about the changes, I would be too if it was my park, but I preferred the fantasy land theme so that was one plus for the change to me. I'm also a big MLP fan, and I'm really excited to see which form of MLP they'll pick. Hoping it'll be my favorite one! : ) Mostly, I'm just excited to see it happening at all. Wanted an MLP ride for years and I never thought it would happen. This is so cool to see. ^^ Looking forward to more news in the coming year!

Due to the age group that watches MLP (mostly 3-9 year old girls), I don't think an extreme ride will fit for MLP's viewers. Yeah, sure, they have made SpongeBob a extreme roller coaster in Nickelodeon Universe although SpongeBob's age group of mostly 5-11, but I am glad MLP might get a tamer ride that could be more catering to the age group of MLP.

@@onewhitedude MLP generation 4 can be watched by any age any gender. Generation 1 through 3 was meant for the target demographic you specified. Watch the first two episodes of Friendship is Magic and tell me what you think. You may wanna see a Rainbow Dash Mind Bender too.

I don’t think the Hasbro theme will live as long as the galaxy/cosmo theme. The great thing about galaxy/cosmo was it wasn’t licensed to anyone but WEM so there were no two company drama as seen with the flintstone parks and other corporate brandings. I’m sad because Sawatzty’s imagination corporation did the design for Cosmoland. ( their HQ is where I currently live so for local reasons I’m loyal to the design. Your always proud when someone from your town does something cool. ) I wonder how they feel about the nubs being sanded off. I wish that they had done another contract with them to update cosmoland for another 20 years. I think it would have been a longer lasting update then going with hasbro.

When I went to Galaxyland in July, I noticed that the new ride was GI Joe themed. It all makes sense now. It will be interesting to see how and what they rebrand. Unfortunately, I only get out to Edmonton once a year, so hopefully they have more done by the time I go there next (next July). Now that it has been announced, have they given a date as to when it will be officially Galaxyland by Hasbro? If Galaxyland is a success with Hasbro, I wonder if they're going to partner with World Waterpark also, seeing as Hasbro has recently announced their first waterpark in Malaysia.

I don’t think they will ever bring that back, I miss it, but if you look the side we’re the marketplace was is know a wall. I think they may have used the space for the casino expansion. But who knows we will see.

This isn’t related to this video but what happened to that one wall game near quirks in the works? I have a very faint memory of it but I remembered it was kinda like the saloon shootout but with monsters and water guns. I can’t find it anywhere on the internet and I’m not sure if it’s just a figment of my imagination at this point. The area that it occupied is closed off now I think.

And change the restraints! There is no reason to have a seatbelt, lapbar, AND terrible over the shoulder restraints. They could honestly just have a lapbar (it used to before the accident.)

@@sorrowcult from what I've learned from research on the subject, they are there more for 'safety theatre' to encourage ridership after the accident than actual safety. They could honestly just use lapbars and it would be safe, due to the coaster's positive g-force.
