I bought the Teamgroup MP34 in the 4TB size for $152 during the Black Friday build-up. It's a Gen 3 drive in a Gen 4 slot, but in this machine it won't be the boot drive, and the difference will be, per usual, measurable but not noticeable. The key to enjoying your PC is to build it, benchmark it to ensure it's all working properly, then stop running benchmarks unless you sense something is wrong.

I've repeated my story numerous times, but here I am again, (with more support, of course)! Had a 4tb HDD. Decided I was going to preempt my HDD failing like it has on every other computer I've had the last 9 years. So I upgraded to a 2tb 980 Pro (just before the massive price drops. RIP). Lost two 2tb of storage, that I had yet to use anyway, but got a much faster drive, much more reliable, that absolutely makes a difference in my newer games, stuff released since 2020. I also realized that I didn't need a billion TBs of space and have every single game I own installed and ready to play. I'm fine with just having the files and capability to install as needed. So I can live with 2TB of space. It was worth every penny.

Is crucial P3 4TB is good for secondary gaming drive? Or should I go with something with DRAM and TLC ?

I initially built my Zen 4 system with a Silicon Power UD90 1 TB - decent drive for what it is, but DRAMless nonetheless, and unfortunately you just can't escape reality. I added a 2 TB 990 Pro recently and it made all the difference in the world - the system actually feels as properly fast as modern hardware should. The aforementioned 1 TB drive is now a game drive.

Good point about using a 4TB drive to maximize use of precious M.2 slots on your motherboard. I'm hoping future motherboards come with more M.2 slots available. (and lower prices!)

Had to slot in a PCIE card to fit a third in mine lol
@Alan-rt3se Жыл бұрын
@@Carnage_Lot I had to do that on my desktop computer because I accidentally shorted out my second M.2 slot. I had taken the SSD out to add a heat sink to it, and when I put the SSD back in the slot and booted up, that SSD was not connected. I tried the SSD in an external adapter and it was fine, so then I looked at the M.2 slot with a magnifying glass, and could see a melted spot where there was a short. So I put the SSD on a PCIE card like you did.

I got a 4tb nm790 earlier this year as a secondary drive Here, the price difference between the nm790 and a DRAM buffered drive was notable but not insane at the time. It was 160-170 for the nm790, but 330-360 for a similar size DRAM buffered drive. I could've afforded the better drive but for that price difference, I felt like the nm790 was already at the price sweetspot and the other drives still had to sink a lil more. I don't regret it though, the drive is monstrous!

I picked up a 990pro 2TB for no cost with my gift through samsung. I originally wanted a 4tb model but they didn't have any until the slated JAN 15 2024. My gift card expires on at the end of the year. So I just went with the 2TB for nothing. I also picked up a 4tb P3 Crucial on amazon during black friday. I believe it was $158. About 6 dollars different from the Teamgroup 4tb that was on sale at the same time. I wouldn't mind picking up another backup drive if prices become lower. I still have a 2tb hp 950 as my main boot and game drive on my older pc, with a intel 660p as a storage. I'll probably move the 660p to my new comp as more extra storage.

Have a bunch of 1-2 tb nvmes and HDDs for mass storage. I could have went for 4tb nvmes, honestly I see them as the future and 2tb as the value play, 1tb more as a minimum. 512gb are enough for old machines that are used casually.
