Allister Thorn (Master at Arms of Night Watch) was a knight and came from a noble family that served the Targaryens (former kings/queens/ruling family of Westeros). After Robert's Rebellion (Civil War), many of those that survived were offered to either pledge loyalty to Robert or take the black (Night's Watch). Allister was one that was loyal to the Targaryens and took the black (forfeit all lands/titles) and became the man that trains fighters. He is not very found of Ned Stark or his family. So he takes particular interest in going after Jon any chance he gets. He considers Ned a traitor, despite most of Westeros considering Ned a man of honor.

Harry Lloyd, Viserys' actor, described his behavior as (paraphrasing) "Viserys was Danaerys' mother, father, and teacher for years, he kept her clothed, taught her how to speak and fed for all this time. In the time of the Targaryens she'd have been his wife. To see her be with a new people who respect her, speaking a different language and thriving, it upsets him I think."
@fordhouse8bАй бұрын
Yes, she is all he has in the world, and in his mind should have been his wife. Some of his crasser comments and aggressive behavior toward her (being fucked by 40 000 men and horses, etc) is probably misdirected anger and jealousy at having to give her up.

+1, especially for earlier seasons, these are a great watch Although I think plenty of "conventional" reaction channels (fast intro, reaction, fast outro with some thoughts, no long form yapping since viewers drop out minutes after reaction ends) Histories and Lore would be considered bad for reactions. They are 1h long videos with different bits, so you can edit out best (unlike with the episode, which, tbf, every reaction channel has the same bits in the same episodes, and it is fine), and you certainly can't post 1h long reaction that would be "boring" reaction-wise.
@carriesmith742Ай бұрын
@@nickrubin7312 For me when I watch a reaction video , I watch it from beginning to end. Even if they don't react to H&L, they should watch it to at least have the knowledge. Spartan & Pudgey would just give a short disclosure at the beginning and then pause and discuss each section to mix things up, as most other reactors do, but the choice is Amber's, although since she's a reader she'll probably read all the content after watching the shows.

I understand that the showrunners wanted to humanize Cersei by giving her a stillborn son. But that change seems to confuse most reactors. Gendry said his mother died. And Ned says he is Robert's bastard. If he was Cersei's son, he wouldn't be a bastard.

In episode one King Robert cradles Ned sisters crypt statue face in his hands and says “in my dreams I kill him every night” and he’s talking about Prince Rhaeghar, Daenerys’s older brother. I won’t say anymore on that storyline, but he was an important figure in the rebellion and you will hear his name come up throughout the series

It's not like it's going to take 8 seasons for Ned to clear this particular matter up.

It's also a good point she is making. Why would the Hand of the King be searching for a bastard unless there was something more? Important context: Theon was taken as a ward when he was a child by the Starks after his fathers rebellion/war for independence failed. Well, officially as a ward. In practice the losers of wars in Westeros often give up children as wards so they act as de facto hostages and prevent the fathers from leading wars again. Essentially, Theon grew up with the Stark children, but if his father had decided to rebel against the king again, it would have not been an unusual affair if Ned had to kill him because of that.

"So he would have to not technically be a bastard, but how that would even work" - legitimizing a bastard for low-born fathers was technically just a matter of father announcing it, but for nobles, who in the feudal system serve as king's administrators for given piece of land, there was a matter of legitimized bastard becoming heir to that function - and a monarch wanted a say in this. So, to become a part of the family a bastard needed a royal proclamation. Which in the case of king's bastards... circles back to father just saying a word. For a married king, with kids already in the line to the throne, this would create an outrage on the side of wife's family and their supporters and, since the king's wife usually came from the most powerful houses of the realm or foreign ruling house, could mean a civil war or war between nations - but all in all, be bad to the kingdom, so it would not be expected to happen. The king would have to be an idiot... but in case of Robert's that's not a hypothetical, isn't it :P So yeah, if the bastard is older than Joffrey, and Robert is not afraid of whacking a hornet's nest, he's just one royal whim away from becoming first in line.
@fordhouse8bАй бұрын
Simply legitimizing a bastard son does not generally give him precedence over any younger true born sons. Generally, any true born son will still be ahead in the line of succession.
