The scent of hot bread drifting from the shops along the Street of Flour was sweeter than any perfume Arya had ever smelled. She took a deep breath and stepped closer to the pigeon. It was a plump one, speckled brown, busily pecking at a crust that had fallen between two cobblestones, but when Arya's shadow touched it, it took to the air. Her stick sword whistled out and caught it two feet off the ground, and it went down in a flurry of brown feathers. She was on it in the blink of an eye, grabbing a wing as the pigeon flapped and fluttered. It pecked at her hand. She grabbed its neck and twisted until she felt the bone snap. Compared with catching cats, pigeons were easy. A passing septon was looking at her askance. "Here's the best place to find pigeon," Arya told him as she brushed herself off and picked up her fallen stick sword. "They come for the crumbs." He hurried away. In case you wonder how Arya survived on the streets.

29:45 That's Yoren, a Night's Watch member. He's the same person that was travelling with Tyrion when Catelyn arrested him, and he rode to King's Landing to tell Ned about what happened. He also met Arya at that point and mistook her for a boy. When Ned says "Baelor" he's referring to the statue. He's drawing Yoren's attention to Arya without mentioning her directly, knowing that Yoren will recognize her and help her out.
@kvltslime22614 сағат бұрын
a point of clarification he didnt mistake her for a boy hes telling her "youre a boy" so he can travel with her as a boy and not a little girl because you probably shouldnt travel as a little girl in westeros during war. mainly so he can say "aria? no this is 'arry a boy bound for the wall"
@troliolСағат бұрын
@@kvltslime2261 I'm referring to their first meeting. Yoren comes to Ned to tell him about Catelyn and says "this must be your son, he has your look." After Ned's execution, he says it intentionally, yes, but when they first met he mistook her.

You're correct about the passage of time. Every time there is a change of scene, even if its in the same region, days, weeks or months may have actually gone by, it is up to you ro see the context to figure out how much (and most of the time it doesn't really matter tha much).

And it isn't a complete sacrifice of 2000 Starks in the books. In fact, the majority of the Stark army (under the command of Roose Bolton) faces Tywin at the Green Fork but Robb takes all his cavalry to attack Jaime and relieve the siege of Riverrun. Bolton's force fights a brief but bloody battle but then retreats largely intact to fight another day. However, much the vanguard (primarily comprised of Starks, Cerwyns, Karstarks, Hornwoods and Manderlys) suffers heavy casualties. Robb actually ambushes Jaime, luring him and only 100 or so retainers into a trap. With Jaime's army now leaderless and divided in their siege camps, Robb defeats each section of the host piecemeal in a decisive victory. Genuinely, Robb is one of the best battlefield tacticians in the stories. They do show some of this in the show but these engagements are light on detail.

Yoren is a recruiter for the Night' s Watch. If you rewind to like Episode 4 Bumpkins and Snarks I think, he has a drink with Thorne or someone and says he's headed to King's Landing to find some new recruits. This isn't a spoiler since the show never pursues this plotline again, but, in the books, Jaime later reveals to Tyrion that Tysha was actually NOT a prostitute, and that she actually DID love Tyrion, and their marriage and love was real. This is a huge turning point for Tyrion in the book and it better explains some things that happen in the show at the end of Season 4, and why Tyrion's writing falls off in the later seasons. He's meant to be a differently motivated character, he is looking for Tysha. Of course, the terrible writers of this show never do that plotline. Shame.

Catelyn Stark (née Tully), and Cersi Baratheon (née Lannister), are two very dumb characters. We’ve already seen how Catelyn’s spur of the moment act in having the Imp captured endangered her husband. Cersi cannot admit her son is evil and lacks the ability to positively control him. His act of killed Ned sets off a war. And Catelyn will do her best to undermine her son in carrying out that war.
