Something I didn't catch before was that after The Hound was defeated by Brieanne, he told Arya to go after her because she would help her. So he knew that she was good for Arya, he just wanted to be the one that protected her.

i feel like he grew to believe it after seeing how brienne was willing to fight for her. arya was his meal ticket too. he was counting on being able to eventually ransom her to someone he believed would protect her (even if he didn’t know or believe there were any living people to fill that role). ALSO, he knew that arya would be alone in the wild otherwise and he believed it was either find brienne and go with her or die.

@@bigw725 i dont think it was because she was fighting for arya, because the stark girls have a huge ransom on them and he would assume that is what brienne wanted. i think he ended up believing she wasnt arya's enemy because she kept asking him to give up. if she was after the gold she would have just wanted her competition dead.

It's funny you took note of ol buddy wanting to go back to slavery. The same thing happened in the USA, after slavery was outlawed you had millions of dudes with no qualifications who were hated by the people who they'd have to get jobs from out on the streets. Eventually, the government made up these contracts of "employment" so they could go back to the plantations, but these contracts basically said that their pay was shelter and food. So after slavery was outlawed, it pretty much continued on more or less the same for quite a while. It's a really dark point in US history that doesn't seem to be taught much in the states.

They didn't teach us about jim crow, Juneteenth, or the continuation of slavery 15 years ago when I graduated in NJ - but in NY where my son is going to school, they do teach it, and more. So no, not everybody learns it in the US, and it's not up to the teachers at this point anyway.

It was known as sharecropping. Essentially white plantation owners would allow former slaves to use some of their plantation land in in exchange for a cost. However it was exploitative in a way that the plantation owners would over charge for land usage or for seed/feed or for use of tools etc. to the point the person growing the product was essentially giving all their profit to the plantation owner. They couldn't save money to live elsewhere because most of it was going back to plantation owner or in many cases they were even going into debt to the owner. It was essentially contractual slavery that was done in the South immediately after the Civil War.

Tywin was in secret a man of contradictions. He always brided himself of taking no women of the night, drinking and "shitting gold". All false. In the end the poop was truly poop. That broke Tyrion up so much. In the end he and Tyrion were exactly like each other and Tywin just wouldn't admit it. Regarding the books, Tyrions departure was the hardest for the show runners to write and they made one of the biggest changes in the show compared to the books. I will not spoil detailed events in the case of theorizing and keeping things spoiler free but I will say this - Tyrion and Jaime departured in anger and hostility. In their last scene Jaime explained some of Tywin's behind the curtain activity and that's why Tyrion took a pit stop in his room before leaving. However Tyrion took the news as "You've known this thing for how long and you are telling this now?!" It broke Tyrion's trust and it had great ramifications to his character arc. For good or the worst, this moment was pivotal to Tyrion's journey.

I mean she'd do it for her own survival that's enough of a valid reason. When she stayed instead of leaving on the boat like Tyrion told her to, to me that was the first clue that she was comfortable and knew she didn't need to leave because Tywin would protect her from Cersei. She was probably telling him everything Tyrion was saying and planning. I think that it was way earlier than the court appearances. Tywin likes to humiliate Tyrion so of course he'd find out asap who his new boo was when he came back to king's landing and hire her to spy on his son.

15:00 I suspect that the conflict in Meereen is at least partially inspired by the emancipation of the slaves in the U.S. There are a lot of similarities, whether it's intentional or not. They both fight wars against slavery, recruit and arm the slaves to fight, and have no plans for the transition. In both cases you have droves of former slaves with no work or homes, mixed in with a population that are resentful because they've just lost a war. You also had classes of slaves. House slaves were a different social class to field slaves, and many house slaves in particular stayed with their masters. And most striking is that in both cases you have an uprising of masked terrorists. The Harpies are similar to the KKK, which arose out of the southerners who felt the north was using the freed slaves to economically and socially repress them during reconstruction.

Out of the two Baratheon brothers, Renly was the one who could be reasoned with and make a deal with Robb. He also got the Tyrells on his side through mariage, they're rich rich. The hound is right, I think he was just gonna look after her like a parent at this point. Varys sees Tyrion's value, good heart and intellect. Tywin is trash for that. He had it coming, he's a lot like Cersei and he knows Tyrion is smarter than all Lannisters combined. It pisses him off that he's a better man than him.

The old man Bran sees at 26:08 is Brynden Rivers, more commonly known as Lord Bloodraven, a Targaryen bastard. You saw him in Daemon's vision in the last episode of hotD. He's the blonde dude with red birthmark on the side of his face that looks like a raven. Look back at that scene, you'll see him sitting on that same tree (though both him & the tree & much younger in the vision). Bloodraven will also (probably) appear in GOT's new show "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" in 2025. In the book, he officially appears in book 3, but we may see him in season 1 next year. Bloodraven is one of the most iconic characters of GRRM's GOT related work. What do you think about doing audio book reactions? Hedge Knight/A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms books are pretty short, but good reads. I think they're a good way of getting into GOT books, you get to know GRRM's writing style & there's only 1 POV. Ask Girl Nettles more about it. She's often a guest on David Lightbringer's Livestreams & it's through his channel that i got interested in the Hedge Knight stories, listening to him & Grey Waste Tim reading the books & discussing symbolism etc. Some of their theory & breakdown videos would be good material for reactions i think, like the explanation of the Dragon Bond & Daemon's Dragon song from season 1

I can get the Hound defending Arya Stark from someone who said they were given a sword by a Lannister. The Hound witnessed the Lannisters going after the Starks, it's why he offered to take Sansa away- His trust for anyone sent by a Lannister to find a Stark is probably nonexistant.

Cersei wasn't 'evil' for telling Tywin the truth, she was worried that he will try to control Tommen as will Margaery, basically tearing him apart. She wanted to let him know that everything his is fighting for (aka Tommen) is a lie

cerseis dad is exactly why shes became the way she is- the show doesnt do it justice but he was almost nonexistent as a father role, he was always absent and when he was around he was spiteful and cruel to all of the children, even while he only hated tyrion. cersei is essentially her father - some even reason shes not as bad as tywin because she held some version of love for her family- while her father just held contempt for everyone , a lot like lord bolton. imo i think all his kids got the justification and reason to tear their dad apart

One of her biggest mistakes. Imprisoning Viserys and Rhaegal even though Drogon was misbehaving. What are they supposed to learn from that?! The Targaryen arrogance believing they have huge magical beings like dragons under their control...

Not a spoiler since your there now, but in the books it goes into way more detail with the Brandon's abilities, and i dont remember the exact wording right now but whenever he wargs into hodor after the first time it states that he controls him, that hodor shrinks away from his mental touch like a beaten dog

Are you referring to both Wights and White Walkers as snow demons? Regardless, wights are similar to zombies, except zombies are mindless and move by instinct. Wights are controlled somewhat like puppets, or maybe more like wind-up toys that you set on a course and they do that until told to do something else. In this show they're wound-up by the white walkers.

Murder is NEVER normal.. and it IS a show, and game of thrones is a brutal world.. So by people I hope you’re not talking about me. A broad stroked comment like this when you don’t know “people” is a little unfair as well. Cause I bet you were happy when Joffrey died.

The show left out one of the most brutal reveals from the books at this time. Jamie tells Tyrion that Tywin made him lie. Tyrion's first wife was never a whore. Tywin made it up and then had his guard have sex with the girl because he was upset that Tyrion would attempt to marry a commoner. It is Tysha he continues to call a whore. In the bathroom scene in the books. Tyrion wants him to admit she wasn't but after calling her a whore a second time he shoots Tywin.

@@lavinder11well she was right in that but her many wrongs cloud that idea. I love Cersai bc she is selfish and survivor in harsh world. however she was very privileged. She murdered 1 husband i dont think she would mind doing it again. However she gets worse but won't say how bc Spoilers She's more lethals than Jaime and was jealous that bv of her sex she was not considered the Scion of her house.

In her “right” to defend herself is she also justified in hurting/ killing numerous other people and also therefore given the okay to have interesting interactions with her brother? Is what’s “right” for her more important than ANY other character that’s alive within this show? Just a question of course. -Adison
