The episode with Bronn's "you wouldn't know him" joke was written by GRRM, so he was the witty one all along :) Anyway, great Schwifting, as always.

I enjoy your tangents, it's nice to listen to the story with what I believe is a great deal of humor and an excellent knowledge of language. I don't know you personally but I am impressed with what I believe is a great deal of intelligence and a witty imagination, reminds me somewhat of Tyrion. Fan of Alt Schwift X and Alt Shift X.

Mimi GoTFan I agree. Intelligence wrapped in humor is what makes this channel great. And the voice of course. I would listen to him read from the phonebook.

The depiction of quasi-democratic systems in ASOIAF is usually pretty faithful to how that stuff developed in its earliest stages. Cossack bands, Romanian and Italian communes - all democracy started out as direct-democracy. Oligarchy and representation come later, usually with some struggle - but direct-democracy has an expansive presence in places in between kingdoms and out of the way locales, it was often a matter of sheer practicality. What worked and was easiest to implement and run stably for a small and/or self-contained community. From this democratic ideology would eventually form as a rhetorical method of defending the organizational system from encroachment - but at its basest nature democracy is pragmatic. The ideologies which enshrine and endeavor to define the concept of democracy are the true artifice, but democracy itself is a natural outgrowth of human social development. It is from this base form of democracy that the legitimacy required to develop oligarchs and eventually monarchs begins to accrue, a long process usually spurred on by the growth of the polity, which creates the impression that a firmer hand is required to administrate and oversee this burgeoning polity. More growth, the more centralized control seems like the path of least resistance, and the cycle repeats until any democratic roots are either relegated to an historical curiosity or more-likely forgotten entirely, considered an organizational necessity and little more unless the concept becomes idealized and integrated as a facet of the culture (Athens being the preeminent example, and even then they found ways to reconcile their attachment to the concept of democracy with centralization of power within the hands of a privileged section of the populace). My point is that it doesn’t take long for even the Mountain Clansmen of the Vale to get tired of clubbing each other to death when they can pool their efforts and resources and relegate disagreement, power sharing, and labor division to a set time and place where the headache of disagreement is preferable to the headache of blunt-force trauma. Hobbes had a lot to say on the inherent violence of the State of Nature, but I’ve always considered it a failure of his not to realize that the true “State of Nature” doesn’t last long once a minimum of two human beings meet for the first time and start making small-talk. Civilization is all downhill from there.

1:00:37 On the contrary, hunting was a mark of the nobility. The hunting of a stag was especially noble. However, the actually preparation and cooking of the animal would be done by a servant. Nevertheless, it would not be unheard of for a noble to skin and disembowel his own kill: for Tywin it represents his masculinity, authority and pragmatism that he would enjoy preparing his own kills.

I'm reading World of Ice and Fire and it kinda blew my mind that the Mountain Clans are actually (actual real spoiler below) descendants of the First Men just like the people of the North, had castles and stuff in the Vale, but were at ground zero of the coming of the Andals a few thousand years ago

Mr. Altman, I'm glad you've decided against the lord of the rings, it's a wonderful piece of literature but not alt-schwift friendly. I'm glad you're considering American Gods! I'm more excited about American Gods than The Dark Tower, but no matter what you choose to recommend next I know I"ll buy it'll be the next book I buy on Audible. (I hope you get sponsored by them because people like you are the only reason I buy books on audible! thank you for bringing the human element to great literature)

I've only seen the first 4 seasons and listened to all your videos and the abridged series to now, so I may be incorrect in my assumption, but it makes sense to me for Tywin to butcher animals himself. He gets his hands dirty and loves having control. Dressing a stag or gutting a fish to eat is both of those things and is practical.

I'm all for more books, personally I love American gods and I think It would make good schwift. Now while I love Hitchhikers guide I don't think it would make for quite as good schwift as it's already a comedy and the tangents might not work with and comic timing of the writing and all that.
