Killbox Onealpha it’s about execution and character arcs being ruined for the sake of time and subversion. There’s a bunch of videos and reviews discussing this. The writers admit to focusing on spectacle when 6 seasons focused on character drama and politics. The long night could have been split into two episodes and that an opinion my fiancé had who just started to watch the series. The major difference in writing is noticeable to people who read and write more than just opinions and reviews and she noticed along with a ton of new fans. The season had great moments, but every time they played up one of these new ideas they created they subvert them because they can’t come up with anything clever with the short time left. HBO offered them ten episodes and they turned them down, even took a year to really develop the episodes but look at all the other characters we love being sidelined. They just didn’t care this season. If you enjoyed it that’s fine but you can’t say it’s up to the proper quality standards the series has set us up for.

Well it's a bit subtle, but right at the start, when Varys is writing the letter about Jons heritage, there is the little girl coming in, who tells him that Daenerys refuses to eat. He then tells her to "try again at supper". The girl says that the guards are already watching her and Varys responds "the greater the risk, the the greater the reward”. That is probably also the main reason why he is executed.

First of all this in not Dany. She killed by D&D in this season. We loved that inspiring, mercyful, just ruler who could have chance to get the iron throne earlier but instead didn't want to kill the people who are innocent. We loved our badass queen who never chose being good and losing or being bad and winning but always created a third option of being good and winning. She had always madness inside of her but she always knew how to use it. She always put a little of it in her decisions and didn't let it to consume her fully. She was a leader loved by millions not because of her birth right but because of her justice. What she had across the narrow sea wasn't fear but respect instead. But when she came to westeros she did everything to gain their trust and respect: she fougt for them, she sacrificed one of her dragons, her armies and her best advisor for them, she saved their kings life not once but twice for them. But all she got was nothing. She lost her everything. And I can understand why she has gone nuts after all. But still she wasn't a person who would destroy a city wirh people living in it after they surrendered. So no, this is not Dany. Our Dany died because D&D wanted to Jon to look like the real hero after all and our Dany is a mad person who actually is the real villain cause you know, Cersie was the real victim in here. So let it be. She will always be my queen cause I know her and I remember her heart which prisoned her dragons after they burnt ONE innocent child, didn't go to westeros while she had the chance because she didn't want to slavers to come again and take her people as slaves. So you can hate her, I am ok with it but no we are not sick. We are just not ungrateful.

GRRM likes getting people invested in characters then turning things on their head. It was a great character arc for her, turning her into everything she swore not to be, the continuation of her family's dynasty of madness, tyranny and brutality. We were supposed to fall in love with the girl, the one that took the dragon eggs, hatched them, cared for the lower people and champion of their cause, that was the point, we were also supposed to be heartbroken by her descent to madness. Cersei was never supposed to get sympathy, she was a cruel woman from day one, but she knew and embraced that. It's very Shakespearean actually, akin to Macbeth.

If there wasn't Emilia Clarke's magnificent act, I wouldn't even be sure about if she gone really mad or not. If she DID gone mad it would have been a part of her character arc and I would have been glad. But that's not her. D&D even didn't let her to gone mad. Isn't it this seasons problem? Dany has caused more suffering than literally anybody else would have in her position, even Ramsay. All the other tyrants of ASOIAF / GOT wanted to be king, they wanted to rule, meaning they wanted to have a kingdom to rule over. However cruel or sadistic they may have been, their evil wouldn't have caused as much suffering as Dany's madness. Dany wanted to be worshiped, and if she couldn't be worshiped with love, she wanted to be worshiped with fear. Remember when Jon told Dany she'd always be his queen? "Is that all I am to you". Even if she became a good ruler, she wouldn't have done it for the realm. I'm not surprised by those still sympathetic to Dany, even though GRRM made her dark side clear from season one when she burned alive the woman who did the world a service by killing Drogo the murderous rapist of a monster who enslaved her people. By showing you Dany's good side (which we all have in us), and allowing the readers to vicariously live through Dany's power fantasies we overlooked her dark side. And when Dany's darkness becomes undeniable, when the hero we were rooting for turns out to be the monster they in reality always were, GRRM is pointing a mirror to the reader on the morally grey nature of Humanity and the light & darkness within us all.

IndigoXYZ18 I really like what you have to say about Dany. Honestly I know a lot of people really dislike season 8 and don’t get me wrong it’s definitely not the best by any means, but I personally haven’t disliked it. Sure there have been some questionable decisions and writing, but I think we’ve all built the ending of this show up In our heads so much that nothing they (DandD) did (aside from GRRM actually finishing the damn books) would satisfy what we all wanted from the finale. However, I have liked some of the character interactions and resolutions this season, Dany included. It’ll be Interesting to see how they wrap up the final episode.

But why is that? I know that it may seem evil to us. But it was quite common in those times in real life and in the history of Game of Thrones that a "conqueror" like Aegon the Conqueror said that all that bended the knee to him should keep their lands an titles, but all that took up arms to him would be defeated, humiliated and destroyed. Why should it be any different for Daenerys? It was war and in times of war these things happen. And with the execution of the Tarly's she also like sended a message that she wasn't someone to mess with. and she had to send that message after the defeat of House Tyrell and the loss of her Ironborn and Dornish allies.

Storywise, I almost dig it. It was trying to drive a point that even someone who comes across as the purest soul (Dany) can be corrupted, twisted, and turned into a monstrosity under certain circumstances. Especially where power is involved. Nevermind about her targ blood. It can happen to anyone. But yeah. The way they went about it was hideously rushed it's literally unbelievable.

I still can’t get over how this show ended. The white walkers should have been the focus of the entire season. This show could have easily gone on another two seasons.
