El-ahrairah this will leave a bitter taste in my mouth for quite some time. I will not forget in in two weeks time. I believe there are plenty more people like me. This was my show. I never loved anything as much except Tolkien. Yes season 7 was less good than the rest but I still enjoyed it. If season 8 was at season 7 level I would be completely ok with it and would quietly wait for the books to get more. I think nobody could have predicted this kind of disaster. As for why we complain... All 5 characters I wanted to stay alive before it started stayed alive. So really I do not complain about what happened but how it happened.....

I think HBO now wishes that at the start they hadn't taken GRRM at his word that by the time they got to it he'd have the books done. The show runners & writers did a good job, when they were adapting existing work. It's when they ran out of material to adapt that the show's writing started going down hill. They originally signed up to adapt novels for a show, not to write entirely new material Yeah, a lot of blame goes to the show runners, the writers, and HBO, BUT let's not forget GRRM's very real share of the blame.

I didn't have ANY expectations they could have subverted because I don't expect shit from a TV show. I know I just watch that shit and I do so not because it subverts my expectations but because it was clever and original and after all the pieces were put together the crazy story made sense. After they ran out of books it got increasingly dumbyfied and cringy but it still made sense. So people sticked around and you could say the show build up my expectation as a good product and I generally expected a somehow ok ending. But oh boy did they subvert there! This ending made no sense. Everyone knew Dany was dead although the dragon tok her body and John was alone. What he just told them? Unsullied do what westeros lords suggest for John? Why? The lords listen to an exiled prisoner who brought Danny the conqueror to them? Why? John is exiled north where he is king in a now independant Kingdom? Why didn't he just sit on the throne? The wildlings going back north although the tried to cross the wall for generations? They must really love their goatshit fireplaces though could have had them south too so fkn why? The tower of the hand rebuilt within what days? Weeks? Dothraki die during long night then they're back. GOT is now the equivalent of a vacuum cleaner that works fine at the shop and then when you bring it home it transforms into mashed potatoes.

I have seen interview snippets where Martin said he told D&D that they neede 10 seasons. HBO wanted to give more seasons (why not, it was earning money). But D&D wanted out of it in 7 seasons stated in 2014 well before the SW offer. And season 7 was cut in half. Season 8 in fact is season 7 second half. Seems the blame would be more on D&D than everybody else. But the others will suffer for it too. Martin is not dumb. He now knows what NOT to do. Thus the books could turn out much better than the movies (better character buildup and maybe more likable ending). Martin always said he wanted a real story, but of course he loves money too. If he is not dump, he will not cut off the hand that is feeding him.
