Also while disappointing might not mean the worst thing ever if the community or critics said it about the season then sure, it isnt that bad. But when MULTIPLE fucking actors say 'disappointing', 'BEST SEASON EVER'-sarcastically and so on then it is an entirely different story because shit has to be bad for the actors to give that opinion about something they worked on. It is almost like when a TV shows success is largely from a book they should stop when the books stop. On multiple occasions in every form of entertainment, it is rare that deciding to write your own ending goes very well.

The build up was there, she did some questionable things that the characters and the fans, including me, ignored because of who it was too. She also almost did go to far a couple times before and was convinced not to by her advisors and friends. The story was meaning to show that as her friends died and people she trusted lost faith in her she descended. So the buildup was not absent before season 8... the problem was it was a very slow and subtle burn until this season when they ramped it up WAY too fast. Part of that was the lack of episodes the last 2 seasons, but even then I don't think they couldn't have started a more gradual build.

Suddenly? She had been saying she would do it for two seasons, if not more. S7 Jon advised her not to do it, right after she said she was going to because Jaime took Highgarden. She decided to do it long ago, and held off as long as she did thanks to counsel from Tyrion and Jon. Maybe don't criticize shows you don't watch.

In an interview the writers said that her final snap was seeing King's landing. Also she almost went overboard to that extend before and her friends and advisors talked her down, who were now all killed in front of her or no longer trusted her. BUT they did not convey that well enough in what we saw I 100% agree. It made sense on paper, but it was horribly executed.

Her burning KL made all the sense in the world. She tried to play nice and lost two of her dragons and everyone close as a result. Now with just one dragon left, there will be no more nice. The big difference is that the RW was not at the end of the show. There were plenty of grumblings that the show was unrelentingly bleak and the comments were far from uniformly positive. It seems to me that all great shows that actually try something new will have fans that become more and more hostile as the ending nears expecting their time and involvement to be vindicated by a relatively conventional ending that satisfies their tastes. When the show refuses to provide this, the typical result is rage and dismissing the novel and uncharacteristic ending as bad writing. Conspiracy theories on the authors' motivations immediately begin to surface. Also mockery and an overall general atmosphere of 'love to hate.' All of a sudden the people who provided you with quality entertainment for years are tarred and feathered and if any effect on their careers as a result of the backlash is met with glee. This is all EXTREMELY similar to what happened to 'How I Met Your Mother.' I am glad there are shows like this out there, willing to try something new, even if the result is a bunch of enraged people. This is why if someone is at least trying something new I will give them a huge pass, even if the result is substandard or not to my liking. People don't realize that the GOT backlash might end up having a chilling effect on people trying out new kinds of stories. If such a thing happens this GOT backlash might very well end up being the end of the so-called 'golden age of television.'

the Targaryen line is over but she still somewhat accomplished a better world, albeit at the cost of her own integrity of self. I wish she'd played a more explicit role in defeating the night king. What is her legacy now? She freed some slaves (good), she ended the Lannister rule (good), and she somewhat forged a new path for leadership in the six kingdoms (I'm a bit ambivalent on this). I like how the unsullied are now free, and they will go to new places, like Naath, to free more slaves, in the spirit of their departed queen.

They should have made her descent into madness much more apparent. In the books she goes from preventing rape in Book 1 to refusing to punish it, and even openly permitting it on one occasion, in Book 5. The show needed that gradual progression from kindness to cruelty in order to justify her transformation into the Mad Queen. As a book reader I was delighted to see Daenerys become the villain, but I feel for fans who liked her and were disappointed by the turn her character took. I felt that way with Stannis (although unlike Daenerys fans I can still hope that George R.R. Martin will treat him better than the show did in Season 5).

That's how invested I was to this show, and everytime I rewatch it, the chills just won't stop. And now I just couldn't rewatch it anymore. I couldn't rewatch my favorite scenes either. I just can't. Knowing that was the endings of their arcs plus how they slaughtered every character developments... I couldn't bear to rewatch the previous seasons because I remember how bad their character developments have been. I couldn't even rewatch Ned's death of the Red Wedding even though the characters there aren't on the eighth season. I just remember that they are all connected to what happened to the final season and I couldn't want to watch it again.

Both tha Azor and Ahai and the Valonqar were fulfilled: Cersei dies with the arms of her younger brother around her neck, only it was a loving embrace and not what killed her. Azor Ahai ended evil by plunging his sword into Nisa Nisa. The parallels between Jon and Dany are obvious. You can also view it symbolically: from his heart Jon draws a 'burning sword', his sense of justice and duty, and uses this deep sense of what is right to get the world rid of a horrific darkness, the idea that 'might makes right' ('They don't get to choose!')

All I care for are logical explanation to events. Like... the unsullied are sworn to Dany their liberator, they are okay with letting Jon go after killing their savior? The Dothraki are okay with Jon killing their Khaleesi? They will... imprison him, ask the other... "Lords and Ladies" to come and decide his fate? With the Seven Kingdoms in chaos and disarray and without the Khaleesi to control them, they would not take the opportunity to plunder? How does the North works anyways. Yes it's true that Daenerys has shown evidence of growing more bias, unfair, mad, and even just down right cruel and evil itself, but there have also been many instances where she's been doing the opposite of those things. The biggest was during the Battle of the Long Night or the Great War, where she decides to for once for-go her campaign to retake the Crown and focus on stopping the White Walker. Of course it should be noted that even then Dany was showing signs of paranoia and silent rage, especially when she discovered that Jon was her nephew and has a stronger claim to the Crown then she does. And the scenes of her interacting with Sansa didn't help either. You know come to think about it she has actually been really tactless in her approach to gain allies with a...well..."Peaceful Approach". Most of the time it's been due to force.

but I agree with kit.. she was crazy the whole time.. if you look past the good part of what she does.. there's an underlining evil in her and it shows more and more.. but she was a good person up to the last few episodes.. but she showed that this was possible in a lot of her actions.. even if they deserved it

Just as it didn't sink in that The Last Jedi KILLED Star Wars until Solo came out and flopped....the damage of GoT won't sink in initially. But honestly, I think it might quite literally implode HBO as a whole. For years, people were keeping, picking up, and renewing their HBO subscription pretty much for Game of Thrones and Game of Thrones alone. They tried to find 'replacement' shows to pick up slack and potentially fill the void when GoT was over, including prepping prequel shows....but after promising first seasons, both True Detective AND Westworld fell off majorly and did not gain the traction and momentum HBO wanted. GoT is going to leave a vacuum that HBO will have a hard time surviving, just as the loss of Breaking Bad and the utter decline of The Walking Dead will leave a major toll on AMC.

I get what Kit is trying to say, and I agree with him. He's not "blaming" the fans. He's saying that if you didn't see her heel turn coming, then you would be [just as] responsible as Jon and Tyrion. In the same way that Jon, Jorah, and Tyrion lied to themselves so has the audience. People hold Dany up as some kind of feminist hero, when in actuality her's is a cautionary tale about the corrupting nature of power. Also, as with the Lannisters, there is a repeated theme of "Blood will out". Certain families have certain tendencies. While these foibles are not set in stone, they must be vigilantly guarded against.

I can absolutely understand fans being disappointed, but I find it difficult to understand why so many of them were shocked. I thought everyone knew that Daenerys was on her way to becoming the villain after her behaviour in Season 7 and earlier in Season 8. None of the other protagonists have shown the same brutality as her, but the villains have. It was very rushed and poorly written - however, the clues were still there.

I wouldn't really call it a terrible ending.. but it's DEFINITELY not the ending a series of such magnitude deserves. In short, it was underwhelming. It needed 2 more seasons, at the least.
