Some say before Lancel's death, just before the flames scorched his body and the pain overtook him, that for a moment, Lancel finally saw what he was set out to do. The breastplate stretcher, in all it's glory, that King Robert Baratheon had told him to obtain was sat in front of him. And before his light was swallowed by the darkness, Lancel put forth his hand in a vain attempt to, at the very least, touch this mystical device but it just lay there in all it's mystery as foretold by it's believers.

Robert never should have been King. He was a hell of a warrior, one of the best in the Seven Kingdoms, men would line up behind and follow him right down the dragons mouth knowing full well he'd lead them out the other end. Give Robert a sturdy horse beneath him, his trusty warhammer, and a foe worth hitting, along with a tankard of ale and a healthy wench to celebrate his victory afterward and he'd be the happiest man in all Westeros. But sitting on a throne all day, attending meetings and committees counting coins and listening to everyones petty problems, and treating nobles you can't stand like they're his best friends, that was not supposed to be his life.

That is far from the description of Jon Snow, and Ser Rolland Storm is right. While Robert did what he liked, Jon Arryn and Stannis Baratheon were the ones who kept the peace, with Ned Stark following.
@spiritusIRATUS7 жыл бұрын
Littlefinger was responsible about everything besides Cersei's incest. He murdered Jon Arryn leading to Ned's appointment then used Lysa to turn the Starks against the Lannisters as they saw each other as potential traitors.. he then led Ned to discover the incest and betrayed him therefore completing the circle. Catlyn took Tyrion as captive, Tywin declared war on the Starks and everything fell apart. After ensuring the Starks demise by allying the Lannisters with the Tyrells, he poisoned Joffrey which led to Tyrion killing Tywin and fleeing therefore destroying House Lannister, robbing it of its two greatest minds at the same time. And the only one who knows everthing besides us, is Bran.

There's a moment on the show where he talks about how he was meant to be with Lyanna Stark and how the Targaryens took her away from him. He says something like: 'They took her. They took her and seven kingdoms couldn't fill the hole she left behind.' The look of sadness and regret on his face tells you the entire story. He started the rebellion and the war for Lyanna and when all was said and done, he couldn't get the one thing he truly wanted. He won seven kingdoms to rule over, but it didn't matter if he couldn't have Lyanna there with him to celebrate. She died and along with her, so did Robert's love of life, never to return.

I love that little "Oh" Robert gives with a shake of the shoulders when Ned stops him from leaving the tent with his belly hanging out. It's rather unking-ly; not sure that's even a word, but you get my point. In front of the kingdom, he needs to act like a king, but he can be himself around Ned.

MrRKsmiley He was an eternally cool guy, but a pathetic statesman. "Bow, ya shits!" indeed.

Great man, great friend, great warrior, but still bad king.

He was a mediocre king. At least he had a long, peaceful reign, even if everything was slowly going to shit around him. Still great compared to Aerys, Joffrey, or Tommen.

Bob Snow True. That's for mostly becouse he had a good council: Littlefinger, Stannis, Renly, Barristan, Ned and Jon Arryn were good help to keep the peace in the realm. If you compare to Tommen's council in 4th book: old man Pycelle, old man Harys Swyft, bastard who's name i dont even remember, and some corrupted fools after that...

+Bob Snow Baelor I was the pinnacle of mental stability compared to Aerys, Maegor I was quite pleasant compared to Joffrey and Aenys I was as strong as Aegon I compared to Tommen. Comparing something to the worst doesnt say much, an ugly man can look alright next to a very ugly man.

If King Robert Baratheon actually took part in the Hand's Touney and I was a knight. I would have fought him. Way I see it, Rob would be the type of person to be all for it. He wouldn't punish you for beating him.

+Mick G. no, just find yourself a good friend like ned, work up a strong enough tolerance to alcohol that you don't fall flat on your face, drink yourself into oblivion and take over a Kingdom. it's a great day.
