Game of Thrones Prequels Canceled and Still No Winds of Winter

Hidden within a Deadline article about House of the Dragon was the announcement that the remaining Game of Thrones prequels have been canceled by HBO. Who cancels prequels to one of the biggest IP's on the planet during the streaming wars? HBO does after watching the disaster that was Game of Thrones season 8. Also, HBO provides some vague insight on why they canceled Bloodmoon and my theory on what may be one of the reasons behind The Winds of Winter delay.
