Dr. Kevin Leman, author of Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours, describes common mistakes of parenting - parents not displaying healthy authority with their kids, not allowing kids to fail, trying to keep kids happy, and over-reacting to misbehavior. You can find his book on our store here: bit.ly/2Rwcor2
Dr. Leman recommends “reality discipline” - where real-life consequences teach children rather than parents lecturing, reminding, or rescuing them. Dr. Leman also differentiated between praise and encouragement, and discipline and punishment for children.

21:20 made me cry. I’m doing something right! I grew up in a an authoritarian house hold with lots of trauma so I worry constantly about how am doing bc some days my trauma wins.

The answer at about 16 is the reason why parents that are very loving have kids that are diametrically opposed is the parents didn’t give it back the parents are takers in that they received love and warm from their familiar unit but they never learned how to give it back and that’s why they have kids that are diametrically opposed no further questions thank you for letting me be of counsel on this patient

7,5, and 3 means you have to appeal to the youngest at least. The rest if they desire more can ask questions later after you are done with the group of three.

I have a great nephew *(5 years old)who is destroying the peace of his mother, siblings, and every person he comes in contact with. He is exasperating his parent. His father committed suicide 2 years ago. He is broken.

How is disobeying parents a new thing? Was the fifth commandment not an issue for folks until twenty years ago? Did Paul include “disobeying parents” in his Romans 1 vice list in a fit of clairvoyance? The truth is you disobeyed your parents. A lot. Then you put on your nostalgia glasses and reminisce about a time that never existed, so you feel that much more proud about your long-suffering as an obedient child, cheapening the patience your parents had with you. We’ve all done it. And if you’ve convinced yourself you haven’t, I pray the Holy Spirit reveals to you this sin and send you to the Son who forgives, the only obedient Son there ever was.
