4:30 - I actually have a personal anecdote for this reason. I used to have things like pictures and toys be taken away from me because of (insert punishment/religious/evil reason here) only for them to forget the whole thing and let me replace my disposed belongings with "new" things. Hey just a quick thought that I thought I might share cause it might be true. I got bored and decided "I'm gunna go look at medical illnesses". Since this game has a true final boss, Delirium, I looked that up. When I read what delirium is and what its conditions are, I legit got chills. To name a few, Hallucinations, forgetting who you are, and forgetting where you are. Since Isaac blames himself for his parents divorce he started taking his mothers pills(one of the ways to get delirium is drug overdose/withdraw) and have major panic attacks(this can also cause delirium). The end of the cutsceen shows a drawing on the wall where Isaac is drawn as a demon amd standing on his dead parents(delirium can also cause random outbursts of anger/violence). Shoot, there is even a screen that can show up when starting a new run that says "who am I?" This would also explain all of his alter-egos. Just a quick thought I wanted to put out there and see if anyone else agrees or thinks this might have a sprinkle of truth to it. (Also if Isaac truly does die, delirium can make the person who has it more prone to death)

OK here's another look at this. Reading your theory i had a thought what if he has DID( Dissociative identity disorder) he has a bunch of other personalitys that he has no idea exist but in another personality he eats his mom's pills and gets delirium after eating them every time he switches to that personality. the mom thinks hes being possessed when ever her son switches to a different personality or her son is a sin crawling on her back because one of his personalitys is a girl so she thinks her son is trans so she thinks its a sin. the girl identity has short blonde hair and the nary wig looks like her hair so one day she switches in and has to go to school but all the other kids don't understand the condition Isaac has and make fun of him for looking like a girl. If you've seen the cut scenes it looks like his mom gives him the wig but my way of looking at it is it was Isaac's birthday and one kid who understands Isaac's disorder gives him the wig for Mary as I'm going to call her and then the school thing from before happens. so to recap Isaac has Dissociative identity disorder and delirium. he has at least 2 other personalitys Mary and someone else. the unnamed personality eats the mom's pills and overdoses while the mom is away or the mom finds out and forces him to stop causing withdraw. Mary goes to school get a friend and the friend finds out about the disorder so they buy Mary the wig for her birthday. After all of that one day the mom comes in from making dinner but Isaac hallucinates and sees his mom holding a about to kill him so he hides in his toy chest but as he sees it a trap door and just hallucinates the whole game. for ending 16 i think its him thinking hes messed up so bad hes just a demon so he accepts it and smiles for the first time in a while finally thinking he has an answer. ending 13 is pretty similar to ending 16 but instead of accepting it and being happy with it he feels like a failure to his mom to his dad to everyone hes met. i just hope he gets some help like Jesus save this kid!

Watching in 2023 and looking back post repentance and how huge fnaf has gotten, I really appreciate how reasonable Isaac’s story still is. We’ve gotten tons of elaboration, but the story stays the same at heart. The delirium ending shows a kind of purgatory space and the beast ending gives a more vague heaven sort of thing. (To me, I interpret that as him ascending to whatever ideal afterlife their is after reconciling his religious guilt, I.E. dogma and the beast.) Either way, the mother ending and ascension sequence mainly serve to flesh out isaac’s story, and strengthen the emotional core, making the beast ending specifically really emotional. Compared to the fnaf story, it’s branched out and expanded so much to the point that there’s not much emotion left, if any at all. It’s mainly just answering questions for it’s own sake, at least in my opinion.

I believe it was trauma from being taught Christianity in the wrong light. I mean Abraham killing Isaac? That's not a biblical story you tell to a child because it is difficult for a child to understand. You don't raise a Christian child through fear, but with love. Showing the love of Christ. My parents tried raising me through fear of God, and it did traumatize me for a long time and I stayed away from faith for a log time. Then someone showed me the love of Christ, the love of God, and I realized the life I had been missing out on for almost 19 years.

You prepare for it, study it. The more you worry about it the worse you make it on yourself. Afterwards you feel comfort that it's over. You either realize you came prepared or don't let it bother you how well you did but take pride in trying your best, or spend more time beating yourself up for being unprepared or don't take responsibility for it. I would invite you to revisit this theory. As an Isaac player, this theory can go so much deeper with the items and the bosses. For example: Why is it that when Isaac uses Mom's Bra, enemies freeze? Could it be that mom is taking off her bra for random men and when they see her pillows, they freeze? Why does Mom's Pad make enemies fear Isaac? Could it be that Isaac's dad would run out of the bathroom if he saw a pad in the trash? Why is it that Kidney Stone gives you a burst of tears randomly? Why does the vanity give you pills? Why does Mom's Coin Purse give you pills? Why is it that kids make fun of him during the cutscenes for doing what he thinks is normal--better yet, why does Isaac think that his acts in the cutscene are normal? So many questions, not enough answers. So what's the story--or theory rather?

Theory: You can see that in Isaac’s imaginary world, he thinks that he’s crazy or going insane. It shows that because there’s a final boss that he fights called “Delirium”. You can also see that he remembers his family in the imaginary world, such as his mom or his cat, Guppy. For example, there are items in the game called “Mom’s Knife” or “Mom’s Heels”. There are also items called Guppy and then a part of Guppy. When you get all of those pieces, you can turn into Guppy.

Now, with Afterbirth+, I think we can change this theory a bit. Isaac died in the box, and he felt guilty about everything. Only with death he could accept how he was, and move on. His body was found in the box, but he never felt so free and alive, while people thought he was missing, actually, he just found himself.

The voice Isaac's mother hears isn't god... *It's a ghost.* In the Binding of Isaac, when you progress through levels, you will see a short, random cutscene that shows things that Isaac has suffered through. From being laughed at to literally dieing by falling down that secret trapdoor. And one of those cutscenes, In the Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+, is Isaac's mom. Looking towards the ceiling, while a ghost, in a derelict attic speaks to Isaac's mom. And the ghost also looks very similar to the unlockable and playable character, The Lost. @ChrisThePerson I didn't specifically say that it was his brother, I personally didn't know he had a sibling. All I was aware of was his psycho mom, and his abandoning father. (I said ghost because I could say that it was the lost.) But then again, it could possibly be his brother because you wouldn't see or hear too much of him because the family would be so grief-stricken that they'd want to forget. Which would either make it so that Isaac's brother would get mad and attempt to kill his mom and brother so he could get revenge for them forgetting of his existence, or he just wanted company.
