I'm from Slovakia and baba yaga is very famous. It's used usually like a bugy man. When I was little I was told she would eat me if I didn't eat my vegetables or didn't listen to my parents. She was also in the story Janko a Marienka (I wrote it in slovakien but those are names) it's about two kids going into the woods and finding a house made of sweets. They start eating it and the baba yaga then captures them and wants to eat them. One version of the story is that she eats them and the other is that Mariemka manages to throw her in the oven and burne her

Lumas are baby stars, so it seems odd that feeding them turns them into galaxies and planets. That is unless you consider the Star Bits are what cause the transformation. Thus they have the ability to rapidly grow and transform those that eat them. Then consider that Rosa has abilities that line up more with Lumas than the other humanoid Mario cast. She flies, can use magic, and has lived for centuries. Rosalina has been eating Star Bits since she was a kid, as seen in the storybook. She may not have transformed like the Lumas, since she can't, but it would have "transformed" her anyway from the exposure, causing more extreme height gain, and awakening her magical powers.
