This was an awesome video! Another neat thing about some shiny pokemon- I mean animals - is that some of them may not survive well in the wild because of their different coloring, but that coloring may help them be more likely to survive in urban areas. There is a bird, I think the Cooper's Hawk, that has a "shiny" version that makes up only like 25% of the population and that population tends to live in urban areas because their lack of browns blends better with buildings than trees. I also got a pic of a shiny Canadian Goose like 2 days ago. I wish I could share pics here lol

Wow. There you go. Towards the end of this video, there is a decription of Pokemon trainers breeding in order to get shiny Pokemon. What you are describing is the same thing except with real animals. It is probably easier in real life than in the game. One just selects the piebald individuals to breed. Then their offspring will likely inherit the pattern. I have noticed that piebald animals are more common in domesticated species. They were probably bred for show. They are so sought after that they are more likely to succeed in artificial selection. There are quite a few animals I have seen with the piebald pattern. There are dogs, cats, mice and horses. The most famous example is the Holstein cows. Holstein is a famous dairy breed. The animals are piebald. They are white with black blotches. This look has become the iconic appearance of cows in the media. The cow Pokemon, Miltank, looks a lot like that except pink. The reason for breeding a piebald pattern in cows is likely just for show. I wonder if there are other uses. Maybe the white is reminiscent of milk. So this indicates a dairy breed as opposed to a beef breed. Maybe the white makes it easier to find the cows in a field. Holstein has bulls too. They look so surreal. They look so much like the iconic image of the cow. They got the same piebald pattern. However they don't have udders. Instead they have the same male reproductive parts that other kinds of bulls have. The Holstein is the best example of a piebald animal in captivity.

I can mention one natural shiny that doesn't seem to have the full albinism trait, just mostly. The kodiak bear in the forests of Northern BC is rare, but only about 1 in 7, and interbreeds without issue with the rest of the population. Their area is highly protected because of them.

There is actually some hope for shinies avoiding grizzly deaths occasionally. White squirrel populations often boom where they occur. They aren't albinos, it's just a coloration variant. There's no consensus on what selects them to thrive, but people think it may be due to all the manmade structures in the suburbs that are lighter in color (sidewalks, fences, houses etc) they can blend better with to avoid predators
