Similar situation, but I'm not exactly comfortable leaving things in games unfinished. That said, I often do, simply because I don't have the time to finish them before something that intrigues me more comes along. My favorite games are definitely ones that are relatively short, but offer a huge amount of ways _how_ to finish them. Like how, say, many roguelikes do. As a narrative slut though, I wish there were more RPGs like that as well. I probably don't have the time to finish a 300-hour campaign, but I'll finish a 12-hour campaign multiple times if the game's good and there's any new story to see.

Both Horizon Zero Dawn & Horizon Forbidden West are actually pretty good examples of expansion DLC. For one, Frozen Wilds is completely optional, but does require a certail level of experience to stand a chance against the new machines. While Burning Shores, it just appears after you've beaten the main game. Doesn't matter if you just beat it, or you already did. You just get a notification & go to the designated area to start it! Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon, again, pops up right in the endgame. So you can do either ending. But it does have issues regarding difficulty, which has since been toned down. While the King Koko trial is still pretty difficult without cheesing it via difficulty settings before starting the next phase.

I liked how Horizon handles collectibles. Some are like others, get them, take to merchant blah blah, but some have no reward in game except that they tell a little more of the story of the world, and that is made so well, I would occasionally actually run off and search for them, having no clue where to start - you can get maps for those that have in-game "rewards", you can't for those that are "just" story-telling. So that's kinda double rewarding. Finding them actually means being lucky or spending time searching and also the reward is better.
@radioragdoll18702 ай бұрын
The feathers in AC 2 are actually good and I will die on that hill. The reason Ezio collects them is because he's grieving. It's his way of mourning his little brother. It makes perfect narrative sense. The amount of feathers isn't bad either and they're divided into districts so they're easier to find. If you want collectibles done badly just look at the other AC games. In Assassin's Creed 1 there were an obscene amount of flags to collect. They're was no narrative reason to and they weren't divided into little districts. If you missed one you had to comb through the entire city to find it. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of collectibles in the Far Cry games. I just don't understand the feather hate when it's one of the only collectible quests that makes sense. You are right about Arkham Knight though.

The Blood Baron is what sold me on the Witcher. It was at that moment that something finally clicked and I was like "Damn...this game is great!" Totally agree with you on that. As for Mass Effect 2 and the companion missions, I do get what you're saying that they should have just been placed into the main game because they are basically (imo) part of the story and critical to that final mission. But they did intentionally this way to give the player a bit of freedom and since you are on a spaceship, it does make for a more immersive playthrough. When the sidequests aren't convuluted and setup nicely like ME2, I think it works. If you've played Trigger Happy Havoc, it's like Persona in where you can get bonuses that help you in the class trials. and you learn about the characters which is nice. but the problem is a lot of these are hidden behind "gifts" you give that companion and you have to sort of guess what they like. Early on that's tough when you don't know them and then when you do get to know them a lot of them end up dead. That's the whole point of the game.

It occurs to me, that I should give an explanation as to who to assign where The likelihood of your crewmates (by which I mean Tali, Jack, Miranda, etc) surviving the final mission is based on two things. A hidden "points" value and where you assign them. Garrus and Zaeed for instance have the highest combat score, and each crewmember gets an additional point if you've completed their loyalty quest. So when picking for the second team leader, always pick either Zaeed or Garrus. When picking who will go through the vents, pick either Tali or Legion, as they have the highest tech scores (on my first playthrough I picked Thane. Made sense at the time but...). When picking who will form the biotic barrier, pick either Jack or Samara/Morinth. When picking who will escort the survivors of the rest of the crew, pick either Mordin or Jacob, as they have the lowest scores of all the crewmembers and will be among the first to die if assigned elsewhere if they are either disloyal or you picked the wrong team leader

The fuck kind of crack are you on exactly? Final Fantasy 7/8/9 all had 3-4 discs, Parasite Eve 1&2, Xenogears, Lunar 1&2, Valkyrie Profile, Resident Evil 2, Metal Gear Solid, etc.... several of the best games on the console had more than 1 disc. Not sure what kind of garbage you played where disc 2 was always bad, but that seems like a you problem....

Falcon, you're just right there in my brain saying what I'm thinking.The NPC riffing about needing seeds collected and their kidnapped kids was a bit I could have listened to for all 22 mins. Anyway, I don't ever really comment, but this was just solid platinum, buddy. Oh and how you pronounce Mahjong, 'muh-JAHANG', is just... yeah- Spot-f*%&ing-on

Nr. 1: The main story quest. No seriously a lot of times I get so side tracked that after around 200 hours I loose track of the two hour long main story and just leave it unfinished. Also nice rap at 0:11 XD

I love how you make chapters, makes it easy to pull the crust and the gross pickles off and get right to the meat of the sandwich. Can turn a 22:38 slog into a quick little snack. TY for the good content.

Forgetting about/ Not playing the DLC... I really enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn, my first platinum just because I enjoyed the game so much. I sat the game down, the DLC came out, so I bought the DLC because I enjoyed the base game. But I still haven't played it. After I sat the game down, I haven't gone back and now if I do, I won't remember the controls...

I have been playing Starfield, and actually paying attention to the side quests... and holy cr*p... they make the game. Like, you overhear that a company is hiring, you apply, a system error sends your application through for an in person interview, you can fail it btw, quest over, but succeed, and you become a corporate hitman, seriously. You commit corporate espionage, leading to finding a mole in your company, then having to break into your own company, the story changes depending on how well you do. Then of course you have the whole story line where you are a pilot, who ends up eliminating the deadliest pest in the galaxy, literally you are hired to be a pilot, and maybe fight pirates... and you end up putting together this old crew, working on xenowarfare, and solving the problem of terrormorphs. And not to mention the side quest where you just... you know... become a pirate.

The only game I know of where it actually makes sense to meticulously build your home is Stationeers, because it's not just decorative or for holding inventory items, but because you need it to survive, and it's kind of a complex machine inside which you live.

For crazy shenanigans you have to do to get the secret ending, look up the secret ending for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (major spoilers, obviously). You have to do some of the most obtuse, seemingly random things to get the OPTION to pass certain dialogue checks that unlock new dialogue options and you can still choose the wrong ones. Love that game haha

The Bloody Baron quest works so well because it starts off as the main quest and hooks you into the story. You have to do half of it to continue the main quest and even if it wasn't such a compelling story you'd be more likely to want to finish it anyway.

I didn't know the Bloody Baron was a side quest until this video... but also a lot of this feels like "if it isn't the point of the main story or game play mechanic it is pointless (not all, but a good amount)"

I think this video could be called "10 ways I play completely differently from how Falcon plays." 😄I do all of these, except I don't care much for the building aspect. At least Falcon gets that there are people who enjoy all of these things, even if he uses horrible generalizations for who those people may be.
