For me, it's the whole experience of racing in AMS2. I always refer to it as how it simulates the procedure of racing (especially when you also bring crewchief into the picture, which i use on all my sims, so im not using that as an unfair advantage over other sims). From the rolling starts, to the flag rules, to safety car periods, the way how the digital flag stations work around the track. It all makes the experience feel so real (I guess that's just immersion). I've felt this way about AMS2 before 1.6, but now, with frequently populated online lobbies, all those feelings are even stronger.

ACC is the only other sim that I would consider complete, again take or leave the ffb and it also took years to get there and is much smaller in scope. I think the ACC thing was largely based on it also being launched on console , so when people raced it as a live stream they would get 2-3x the views which really helps. for example jardair has always been a legend and always had the same vibe done great he would play R3E and other stuff and have hardly any viewers but ACC allowed him to realy pick up , also loads of influencers built huge viewer bases with F1 titles as they just have way more viewers. For live streaming ( not as much video) its so much about the game you play happening to blow up whilst you are a top 5 or so streamer of that game. so you have to 1) be a good streamer , thats a given but 2) you have to play something that will get views or you could be best streamer ever and never get noticed. Jimmy is a good example of this as well as he basically exploded from doing GT play throughs just before GT sport launched. I think he would have always have done really well but lets say he played train sim lol or i don't know DCS or something people just would not have found him.

As a casual sim enjoyer, the hype for AMS has been due to the dream of having a good "everything" sim. The 4 things I want most of the box are - 1. Good Physics and FFB 2. Good AI 3. An enjoyable progressive career mode 4. Looks good and is well optimized (including for vr) In my experience anything that meets 1 fails at either 2 or 3 so it is hard for a casual player to find the fun or have a metric for skill progression. If AC addressed 2 and 3 it truly would be the King of sims for casuals but instead it is largely thought of a hot lap simulator.

My 2 cents: I've very recently got into AMS2 (April 2024) after switching from ACC because my PC couldn't handle the Nordschleife update. After buying the base game I was instantly hooked. The game ran amazing, it drove amazing (or so I thought) and after discovering the AMS2 forum I liked the idea that the devs were communicating with the playerbase and I wanted to support that. What better way then to get all of the available DLC. Got it at sale price which still wasn't cheap but I thought this is my home now, I won't be moving to any other sim since I have no need for it. It was around that time that I found out about V1.6 and all of the bells and whistles it was bringing to the game. Obviously seeing all of it I nearly creamed my pants. It was 99% perfect sim, only thing that was missing was any kind of Ferrari in the game, or so I thought. Fast forward a couple of weeks, my AMS2 addiction is raging, I'm checking the forum daily looking for new updates from the devs. It was at this time that I noticed this thing called "hovercrafting". A phenomenon known to everyone in the AMS2 community and while it wasn't bothering me back then (we are talking end of June time wise) I always had this feeling of "This isn't a proper sim, it's arcade-ish" but I was hoping that the 1.6 will come in the near future and the hovercrafting will be gone. Fast forward another few weeks. It is now end of August, I am supposed to be going off to college in a few weeks time and still no signs of 1.6. Mind you the teasing on the forums coming from Paddock pass members (Early supporters eligible for early beta testing) was driving me insane. Everyone was saying how "it's going to kill other sim titles", "AMS2.5", "[REDACTED] is great, and [REDACTED] feels insane". Every single loose deadline broken, still no update. It was at this point I started to get a bit critical about the game on the forums and was met with tons of backlash from the AMS2 fanboys. The hypetrain was real and I still wanted to be a part of it but I was growing increasingly impatient. October rolls around. I am now already away from home and couldn't care less about 1.6. The update surprisingly still isn't here. I go home for the weekend, and decide instead of playing AMS2, let's give Raceroom a shot. I had it already installed but with the lack of content I couldn't bring myself around to playing it. That night I bought the Laguna Seca track and one of the 911 GT3 (car I know very well in AMS2). Not even 4 corners in I apply my AMS2 driving knowledge to Raceroom, powering, full throttle through the corner, I understeer off the track. "Hmm, this feels odd, haven't had that problem ever in AMS2." I first thought that the tire model physics were off or that the setup was wrong but after a quick google search I was humbled. IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR. Let me tell you my mind was blown right then and there. It was the exact moment I realized that AMS2, while a fun game, is not a sim in a way that games like R3E, iR, AC, ACC or rF2 are... I wanted to jump ship to Raceroom immediately but I was still hopeful that the 1.6 was going to fix that. Few weeks ago Raceroom had this massive sale and I was able to buy all of the remaining content at pretty low price, but I still didn't want to spend money in case AMS2 1.6 turns out great. I risked it and bought the missing content anyway. Glad I did. After seeing all of the 1.6 gameplay online and trying it out myself I am thoroughly and I can safely say I am happy to support KW Studios from now on. Reiza had nearly 8 months to deliver on this update and while it is massive, it is game changing in a lot of ways, it didn't change the part of the game that is vital in the fight for it's place in the simracing market. I know I am bound to get hate for this from all of the AMS2 white knights but to all of those people I say "Take off the blindfold"

Starting from AC, the first time I fired up AMS2 2 years ago I already realized that AMS2 fell a bit floaty, hovercrafty or whatever is called. One of my friends is a hardcore PC2 player, and when he plays AMS2 he does say that it feels good for him because it was pretty much like PC2. See my point here? By using the same engine as PC2, most players came from PC2 and realized that the handling feel is pretty much similar from PC2. As we also know PC2 is not a hardcore sim. Hence the handling differs from other sims. And yet I didn't want to say the new update is bad. I enjoyed it. It does fix the PC2 feel in terms of handling, but I still can feel the floatiness sometimes. I don't want to judge and say AMS2 is not a proper sim. But the way it feels it is hard to justify it and say it is a proper sim. So, just play what you want and enjoy it.

So they all have strengths/weaknesses And the strength in AMS2 for me is Reizas assets. The tracks and cars are just top notch and the shaders and weather as well. The entire graphical aesthetic, whether in VR or flat just does it for me.

I think one reason AMS2 might be receiving favourable reviews and positive reception (apart from being very good) is that it is produced by a smallish Independent developer. Not the monopolist juggernaut MSG that wanted to lock down every license, not the very expensive iRacing, not the marketing wizzard Ian Bell, but Reiza, the small guy, someone you can root for. As for physics, that is indeed an entirely personal and subjective opinion. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t the Madness engine just an evolution of the ISI motor? If that is so, several sims are powered by different iterations of the same original Grand Daddy. Perhaps a video on this subject would be interesting? I’ve driven sims since GPL, the rF and II, GTR and GTR II, AMS and AMS2, iRacing, Raceroom etc. Perhaps the cars I drive mostly, are very different to the cars you drive. I gravitate towards the GPL era where a bit more slip angle seemsrealistic. What is you opinion on the Formula Vintage?

You can say that ACC is better than AMS2 on GT's, and this is completely undestandable since ACC is 100% focused on GTs and keep doing great, LMU also do a great job in early access, BUUUUUT you cannot find any Sim racing game that offers you that taste of iRacing with a lot of varied categories and tracks (without any mods) by paying basically the cost of one year membership ONCE in your life! Thant's the point of AMS2, it's a democratic simulator that can give you almost everything with good quality. ...and we can also say that 1.6 is in progress with LFM, it can do even better.

Some very fair points there. AMS2 remains a totally frustrating title for me. While I can definitely say I like the driving model more, all they've really done is tweak some of the floatiness out of the physics. In fact now it's much easier to lose control, like in the thankfully now long gone days of i(ce)Racing. And I still have a hard time with a sim that's definitely leaning more and more in the direction of endurance racing, but for which there is still no prospect of a save feature for those of us dedicated single player simmers. This feature alone is why I will continue to enjoy ACC so much, which by the way also has much nicer physics too. While I applaud the trial period for the new DLC, trying it out has left me wondering if I want to pony up the sharp end of $40 or simply wait for the discounts. I think that speaks volumes for where this sim is at. And, yes, I do think these improvements have been overhyped. At the end of the day they are simply about bringing AMS2 up to a decent standard. They certainly aren't gamechanging.

I don't know what some people consider as fun but if my daily car was as floaty as as the 992 GT3R or the 963 I would check if there is something loose or broken. Some people can't be serious with their hype.

I personally did drive a GT car irl at Silverstone and AMS2 is the one that gave me more the impression to get it right to be honest, probably this is the case of a sim getting this right compared to the other sims?! It might be a matter of setting it up properly with force feedback and camera movements. Then there will always be a case of a type of car made better than others at least what really ams2 get it right is the sense of speed or at least got it very close. And I also felt the trail braking works pretty damn well in AMS2
@GamerMuscleVideos27 күн бұрын
If you did the Silverstone experience they run those cars on road tires , I have driven a car on slicks and cut slicks and had passenger laps in a range of cars on road and slicks nothing really floated around like AMS2 but sure road tires on a moderately fast car were the closest to AMS2 slicks. FFB or cam settings can help the feeling of grip but they wont remove the fundamental meta of driving in monster slip to go faster / cars wandering around when they should really be bit into the road and super stable. Trail braking generally works in all sims really give or take , sense of speed is good in AMS2 mostly due to the road texture and shaders being really nice at highlighting road details letting you then see road move fast under you.
@IxNAPxI27 күн бұрын
@GamerMuscleVideos well obviously my irl experience is based on that and for what I felt AMS2 looks pretty close more than others. But I think what really matters is telemetry data, if they correspond to their real life counter part all the feelings we have on a sim or the other is just a matter of taste. I might say a blasfemy but I find LMU the one where cars are floaty, and the sense of speed is generally too slow for me. But I generally agree with your point of view
@maximravinet995027 күн бұрын
To be honest, every single Sim has a major flaw. Acc has their stupid braking physics and used to have the sausage physics on curbs, ac is just getting old and due for a refresh, iracing costs the average rent of some countries, ams 2 is floaty. Just pick the one(s) that you like and enjoy it. You don't have to care about anybody else's opinion
@GamerMuscleVideos27 күн бұрын
Some flaws are more major than others and specifically being aware of the flaws allows people to 1) Find a sim or sims they enjoy more 2) know how to drive the sim they are playing and not be affected of the flaw as much 3) allow a person to get very angry at anyone that critically talks about there sim religion of choice.

I also 1000% agree that the Sim youtubers use positivity/hype of a game to gain views sometimes, and it makes it hard to trust their videos, because as soon as the hype dies down they use negativity to gain views again. (I also understand why, gotta make that bread and turn it into a sandwich) I also agree that GM lost his marbles and can someone help him find them, I think they got lost in the marble factory and he cant get out. I've spent hours driving Oreca at Hockenheim. Driving and car handling is good. Default+ FFB communicates well what is happening and handling is intuitive. Many great things came with 1.6 update. I had so much fun racing on LFM. But as I started reaching 1:30:000 laptime, the old "floatiness" came back. The line between racing on the limit and just sliding started to become blurry. FFB don't communicate anything useful during these moments. I tried Pure/Simple FFB. If this Custom FFB is really providing only steering rack forces, then it all make sense. Physics engine is not complex enough, something is too simplified, maybe even wrong, and Default+ FFB relies heavily on other effects to communicate what is happening to the car. I have to emphasize, ALL SIMS do this, because I can already see the replies... All sims simplify things. They have to. And every sim try to simulate as much as possible. When you try all of them, you are just choosing your own preference. If you like ACC, good for you. If you like iRacing, more power to you. If you like AMS2, enjoy racing on LFM, and we are probably going to meet sometime. Sims are, at the end, just games. Games are meant to be fun. I have fun racing in AMS2. But 1.6 is not "game changing." If anything, it showed us the glimpse of what polished content looks like. But it also revealed the limitations with their heavily modified Madness Engine. And without major core physics code change, the distinct feeling that AMS2 gives you, will not change.

I'm really enjoying AMS2 now, I dabbled in it for years but the physics where just two different from other sims to play it for more then a week. I'm a historic heel/toe nerd not very talented but AI racing with the historic stuff now feel close enough to other sims that I can have fun with it in VR. I mean the procar was the best before and it still is, driving that at historic bathurst or Imola or even spa is a blast. I don't know how people can drive cars like the new super trofeo, the caterhams, the cup car. Something is still terrible wrong with those cars. It has enough cars that feel really good. The AI is good enough to have fun. Even multiplayer on LFM has been fun. I can finally drive cars like the formula trainer car, ginetta, and some of the historic formula cars and have fun. I think it's great for my current needs, if AC had ever fixed there AI then I would never play anything else.

If ACC and co are your jam then more power to you. The power of choice is yours.

What does overhype mean? Some love it, others think it's okay, and others criticize it. Overhyped is a point of view like any other. It's driven more by more influencers who want to sell content on a daily basis than by the players themselves. The KZbin system is much more involved in it than the ordinary player himself. The main thing is the headline. No matter in which direction and ideally in all at the same time to get as many clicks as possible. AMS2 has made progress and it's more fun than before. Not more. The rest is headline quality of life. The gamer alone has little to do with this. He does a few laps and that's it. Clarify this between yourselves. The rest just keep playing. From patch to patch...

It's definitely overblown, it was never going to live up to some unrealistic expectation. I do believe that what Reiza have done is really stellar work considering where it was before. And compared to a lot of other sims which are really a mess in terms of bugs/user experience, it's refreshing to play a sim racer that's as polished as AMS2 is. And with the refinements to the physics, I think they have something that feels quite fun and compelling to drive. After many hours in the 1.6 beta and main release I have to say going back to AC1, it feels even better to me now, like what I've picked up from AMS2 has helped me learn to push harder in AC1 more comfortably. Overall I think AMS2 is still really good and worth investing into. But I do hope they have better luck in the future with AMS3 and won't have to constantly update it to try to fix issues with physics and can instead focus on content and features.

Based on comments here, the hype seems to be real. Also I like simracing community to sounds so adult and in many cases not so toxic. Simracers are more like family. For example, I saw many videos of gt7, where drivers were really dirty, but almost never met someone like that in ams2, because, it's more like hobby for them than just spend some time with some game. Im amazed that I'm being almost youngest in discord groups. That passion of daddies is awesome. After the update I was mainly driving the GT3 cars and I thought those were pretty good, I only have the base cars and I've settled on the Gen 1 911 RS, but the past few days I've been driving the Formula cars and they still slide wayyy too much imo, I'm not a F1 driver but watch any Formula 1 and it's obvious how planted they are, they have massive downforce and huge sticky tires, in AMS2 the backend is wayyy to lively(as well as weird understeer moments) and you can still catch pretty huge slides. You can mitigate it with the setup(and end up slower...), but it's still there, it's a fundamental part of physics or engine, as you stated. Still loads better than the official F1 game, but the hype was way overblown, yeah you can spin now, but the cars still don't feel as planted as they should. I hate the new menu however, I go into the options quite a lot to mess with the ffb and now I have to have my xbox pad on hand.
@winnythekahuna807327 күн бұрын
If only car simulation games would have a range of everyday common/ordinary cars inbuilt to the game which allows the user to calibrate the feel of sim racing equipment to that of a car they may have driven or own in real life. So you basically calibrate your rig to feel the same as your RL car to the using the same car model in the sim racing software. Then once the user has the simulated ordinary car feeling the same as their RL car, that the software then calculates and transposes what the developers have in data about how the simulated high end sports cars in their game will behave and recalculate all ffb and suspension effects to your rig without any further calibration or guess work. Like changing the key in music, same tune but different key. User calibration from the ordinary car will be recalculated , then using physics and various suspension and t iredata from high end cars, all necessary forces will output to your ffb wheel and other sim rig equipment automatically. No more guessing or mucking about with individual ffb settings per car. This could also make the grip limit be more realistic per car because the sim rig equipment is calibrated properly by the software to what the user's initial calibration is using their RL experience. If you know that your RL car loses grip and how it feels around a 90degree corner at 75kph then the sim software will calculate that its simulated high end sports car have better performance and let the user feel as such. Of course it would also depend on the quality and fidelity of their equipment how it outputs the real high resistance and loose forces required. I say this because you can spend heaps on a rig that can mimic forces and it is still not a proper training simulator due to software limitations.
@GamerMuscleVideos27 күн бұрын
I get what your trying to say But road cars generally just feel like crap , with super mushy power steering designed around comfort at 30-70mph and easy parking. Road cars setting with a SIM just would t really translate and shouldn't / software wouldn't be able to take those settings and give an equivalent for a race car as they handle really quite differently and you wouldn't want a race car or drastically different type of car to really line up with road car. Like how you really wouldn't want an arobatic plane to line up with or fly like a passenger jet 😅 Developers. "just" need to make the tires work like tires and other stuff work as much as real life and everything else should generally translate. Ultimately a SIM is abstract from reality and even Sims where they are set up with an exact same real world car as reference are quite different. So the key is more that Sims from a drivers perspective at least focus more on the general process being correct. With any given SIM you can tweak car setups and FFB and pedals to line up with real cars it's not that hard but it is time consuming , often SIM centres have to do this for real drivers it's why things like active pedals are so good. Still even then it's going to be off lol someven if you did what you said and it worked it would still not "work" 🙃. No way to win with sims it's pain and suffering all the way down.
@winnythekahuna807327 күн бұрын
@@GamerMuscleVideos I think it can work with a good development team tackling the challenge but it would be years away as you are right about still having to get tire physics as true to RL as possible. Been no mention of how suspension accuracy works to add ffb to this day, as the attention is still on tires. I wonder how the million dollar racing team simulators perform? I dream for the day that a consumer grade simracing title as well as peripherals, can claim to be a 100% realism training tool for the cars they have on offer and that VR users won't be able to tell the difference between real and virtual anymore. I am actually surprised how VR has boosted sim racing fun and never thought it would even be a thing back when I was still using Playstation1.

AMS2 is topical at the moment, and whether you love, like or hate the sim it's shedding a light on the whole of sim racing, which is a good thing. But you know yourself, if you were making daily videos on all these other sims, instead of AMS2 these past few weeks your view counts wouldn't be anywhere near as high.

They need to work on MP. Joining MP games is crap. Most games are 'in a race' so you can't join and if you do join and wait, it's practically impossible to tell how long you're going to have to wait - and that's assuming not everybody leaves at the end of that race. They need to make it a la AC where you can join at any stage (and behave if a race is already running). I almost always give up trying to join an MP race and end up back on AC when I am looking for an MP race. It's a pity because I love the look and feel of the game. And they need to fix the fact that you can't see gear changes when you are spectating.

I think its just popularity, I’ve not bothered with LMU, iracing etc. AMS2 has really only used dev blogs but the reach of the Reiza KZbin channel is suer small, the Reddit isn’t massive. The marketing really isn’t there either so it’s just it’s been popular. The game has a really big “single player” community. It’s miles better than ACC. AC is a great game and has a massive “cruise” and mod community. Look how RSS etc get hyped by fans. The game is popular so a big update will resonate with offline racers. You’re looking at from the perspective of someone who takes off all the assists and then moans about needing a setup when you hate them 😅 if you play this game in a semi casual way with a touch of abs, traction control and stability control. The cars are planted and great to blast around in and fun. When you drive yourself mental with tuning cars to “fix” them, you can just do the above and have “fun” When I want to feel like a pro, I play AC with authentic settings for things like traction control ABS etc. Then I hit the kerbs and the car is totally janky BS 😂 But if I want just great fun, AMS2, group C but with sneaky abs etc, feel like a driving god. That’s the way to play AMS2. It’s like an amazing GT7 or Forza game.

AMS2 has always been overhyped by the community, because people wanted a game to finally be better than RF2. They don't want to believe that they would have to play a niche old game to play the best. All of the other newer games failed to beat RF2, so people wanted AMS2 to be the one that succeeds.
@g709z526 күн бұрын
I agree that it's a Hope-Hype. Every time people want to believe that this time it's for sure a good update which solve all core issues. But no. No one of them is finished till the end. And in the end they start a new game before finish and polish previous one. Now days There are GT7 only looks like a finished product. iRacing rattled from one side while they update another side. ACC wash broken all the life. Same for RF2. AMS2, RR, LMU, Reinsport in active development, but still not a final product. And like this in the whole simracing industry! So all compare is who broken much or less.
@SamToulouse27 күн бұрын
The way I see it, diversity is a great thing. You like Touring Cars? Get Raceroom and its crazy AI. GT3s? ACC. Protos (with or without GT3s)? LMU. And, until recently, if you loved old slow cars with no grip, AMS2 was the best option. Now what people were complaining about was basically that they wanted AMS2 GT3s to feel like ACC GT3s, and Reiza got closer to that goal, but what made the GT3s sketchy in AMS2 was what was making their Fiat Uno so awesome. And I have driven my share of old hatchbacks, so I can safely say that the Uno in 1.5 was great, but is really bad in 1.6 (ad don't get me started on rallycross...). You just have to check the Time Trials to see that everyone is driving the newer cars and nobody appears to care about the cars and content that actually used to make AMS2 different and interesting. Ultimately, we are heading into a direction that is bad for the community, with all sims focusing on the exact same content. And that hype at the moment is clearly making things worse by drowning the voice of Brazilian series fans under the hype for cars that are good, but that can be found in other sims, often better. I really appreciate the fact that you point out the coerced toxic positivity from KZbinrs. I am tired of hearing: "I did not get paid for this review" when the youtuber has other incentives to make an overly positive review, be it because they got the product they are reviewing for free, or they hope they will get something free or early next time, which brings more view and, ultimately, more money. I am not saying youtubers are dishonest, but saying there is no incentive to be positive is simply not true.
