@@doodlesquatch277 I went in my workshop today and apparently they’ve got five stars on. The guy was really nice. He didn’t try and tell me anything. He just sat down behind the counter and chilled out. There was a Gorgon that they had made for me so I could see. It had a “D***” Cannon which he touched for called a belly Cannon. I don’t read newspapers. I don’t watch the news on TV. I know more about what’s going on in China than I do the UK community especially on KZbin and Discord is really good. I made some really good friends and if I see you on discord I’ll add you because especially what you said about being the opposite of love I like that. Yeah, having worked in an all around game store I can say Warhammer is pretty light on That Guy. Miniature games have fewer rotten eggs than card/board games and the ones that are around aren't as smelly. Our best guess is that the That Guyiest That Guys have no patience for fiddly models or painting and flock to games you can just throw money at.

The exposure to the 'unsavory' element for younger hobbists is something that is evident to most youngsters and is an opening for great discussions. My group plays in a friends basement. Some of us have younger kids who are in the hobby. We do venture with them into the local stores for games and they usually call out the unsavory elements they observe (thankfully outside that environment) and our group uses these conversations to reinforce how our behaviours and reactions can be used to help shape change in others and hope for their growth (both the offenders and the kids as well) and a good game and potential gaming mates. Opportunities abound being gamers with solid roots in loving the hobby and being patient with others.

Being a store manager isn't the equivalent to being a player sitting across the table interacting with another player. A guy coming into your store looking to purchase some paints or looking for a new release isn't trying to cheat with "special rules" or dice rolling tricks.

I have a game of 5th lined up this weekend. Im using the 3.5 chaos codex. And my opponent is using the HH world eaters. Cause we want to have fun. And I will adjust the rules on the fly as needed. As ive played since 2nd and memorized every rule book each eddition except 9th on. So should be fun

Glad to see someone else Bosh's rules and armies together to make a fun experience rather then a competitive bout of mathhammer. One of the greatest gaming weekends I ever had was when me and another guy from the gaming club mashed epic and apocalypse rules together with our action figure collections so we could refight the battle for autobot city from transformers the movie. (Deceptiicons won 2 games to 1🤣)

Man, that 30 year hobby veterans experience kind of mirrors mine... I started playing back in 2002, enjoyed the game itself and the people I played with, but around 8th Edition it seems like I just ran into bad luck with the people I found games with. Just a lot of meta-gamers with bad attitudes, and people more focused on the rules and not the fun. It's gotten to the point where my own hobby nightmare is me being turned into the type of hobbyist GW wants: a guy who only builds, paints, and consumes the lore. Hopefully I can turn that around in the future, but it feels a bit bleak.

The funny thing about the first story is the fact that they prefer the term Indian to Native American if you aren't going to refer to them by the tribal grouping they're a part of.

I have a buddy who's high-proportion Cherokee. He delights in winding up people full of White Guilt, by changing his preferred term all the damn time. Whichever you use, he will pretend offence and insist on a different one. Indian, Native American, First Nation, Native Person - but my favourite is "Person of Indigenous American Ancestry" - no abbreviation acceptable 😂 We call him Tonto... (to be clear, this is _not_ mean, we've been friends for decades, and he gives back just as good - constant jibes about how we all speak with forked tongues and he can't tell palefaces apart etc).

My guess is most "weird" tabletop hobbyists are mostly socially awkward and less unshowered or downright hostile. Also the competitive players are their own little group... at least that's my experience.

Warhammer and Yugioh collector here. I can definitely confirm based on the prices of competitive Yugioh cards alone there is no way Yugioh is a child’s game. I can barely afford it and I’m an adult with a real job.

Real talk now as someone who played a lot back in the day, including at UK nationals a couple of times, I've got a lot of nostalgia for YuGiOh... But it is definitely one of those things that has a shelf life and, dare I say, an age limit before you become a bit strange? It's fantastic as a teenager. Love those memories. Going to locals, going to events, memeing things from the show and doing quotes, looking at your cool shiny cards, but once people get past college and University age and they're still in, that's when they start getting creepy vibes. Sorry but point at a YuGiOh player who is older than 25 and more often than not you're pointing at an outrageous stereotype. Remember that nightmare about the guy who had an older YuGiOh player burp in their face when winning? Yeah, that doesn't even surprise me, the YuGiOh hangers-on aren't "veterans", they're downright weird and creepy dudes. It's not necessarily a "childrens card game" (as the meme goes) but I'd argue that it's very much a teenager's card game. It peaks if you're a 13-19 year old lad then all the more normal players leave for pastures new.

I prefer narrative play myself if you like power playing and Tourneys that's cool you do you just don't expect to play me. I'm not in it for winning or loosing I'm in it for a fun battles and cool shit happening. I'm gearing up to play Warhammer 40K for the first time in I want to say some 20-ish years and it's going to be a piss small game like around 350 points barely a skirmish but it's gonna be fun Black Templar, Orks, Adeptus Custodes and possibly Dark Angels all vying for rescue or kill my Minka Lesk Minature. Might even use Trazyn the Infinite for some in game fuckery

Mate that bit about there not being that many hobby nightmares because there isn't another channel doing it is a bit of a bum tickle on your part. Your audience is less than a 10th of some of the larger channels; I sincerely hope yours gets as big, but it isn't that there is a shortage of stories of rachet behavior among hobbyists because the hobby is awesome, it is that most people who have those stories have no idea this channel exists. You haven't even begun mining reddit for content, this is a borderline echo chamber even though it is expanding. Love your channel but pull your finger out of your bum.

In fairness I don't think North should "mine reddit for content", it's cool how these are essentially KZbin exclusives. I kind of agree though that what we hear about on this channel is the very tiny tip of an iceberg. Poor behaviours are pretty common in 40K.
