This episode should serve as a warning to gamers that we risk losing a generation of games by being digital only. All it takes is for a game company to go under or a game company just being dicks and removing it from the marketplace. There are countless games that have gone missing already because of this and looks like it might only be getting worse with companies, especially Japanese ones, taking their games off digital store fronts. Also, good episode guys see you in two weeks.

***** Yes, support PC gaming instead of consoles. That will surely stop you from missing out on games...Wait...

MarsGundam Digital releases can actually make games more versatile for survival. I have 100's of games and the appropriate software/extractors backed up on 2 hard-drives. I can (theoretically) make a million copies and all anyone needs is a generic USB stick with the appropriate level of space, or for me to upload one to a website. Its a pain in the ass trying to preserve cartridges and disks and consoles in comparison.
@gozinta829 жыл бұрын
MarsGundam Totally agree; I grew up when everything in video games was a physical release, even if it be only w/ special bundles or bought at certain locations. Now it seems like these digital release games are being taken down one after another. I wish it would go back to PC taking priority, then console getting appropriate ports. This would better ensure PC gets the version they deserve, and the consoles get the ports that take advantage of their hardware. All of this crap going on with Konami, Sega, Nintendo and Capcom is getting me nervous.
@PikaLink919 жыл бұрын
MarsGundam That is why, if a game exists physically, I always make sure to buy that one, so that I can immortalize it in my collection and in our culture.

I believe that they re-uploaded because when they said that Far Cry Blood Dragon was a download only title with a code with the collection, apparently they didn't know that it was physically released along with 2 & 3, so they removed the Far Cry Blood Dragon statement from the video since it actually has a physical release.

A Game I think should be made to have a physical release is Freedom Planet developed by GalaxyTrail It's a Sonic styled platformer but there's much more going on with the frantic action of Gunstar Heroes. You have Sash Lilac who plays like a bit like a combination of Sonic and Ristar. She's a dragon by the way. Then you have Carol Tea who is a wild cat who more close range and she has a motorcycle that defies gravity being able to drive up walls There's a 3rd character you can unlock name Milla who is a dog but I don't know much of her yet Basically the Story is very engaging and you'll be so attached to it and the music is one of the best things about this game. I would say this something we could have Easily seen on the SEGA CD. If you ever make a 2nd video with this topic is love to see you go over this game. And if anyone reads this, check it out is not that expensive on Steam or if you wait a bit its coming to the Wii U on the Nintendo eShop.
@Crazy_Gamer_OG9 жыл бұрын
Ian Murray Yea, Freedom Planet is a good game but I doubt Galaxy Trail has the funds to make a physical release possible. Their game didn't sell well at launch due to it's late summer release date which is apparently one of the worse times to release a game.

Good episode, as always! As far as what I'd like to see get a physical release, here are some of my choices for digital-to-physical: Zen Pinball 2 - I know Game Sack isn't too fond of the genre, but I since I am (both digital and the real deal), I feel this is an awesome video pinball game with many great designs and video game elements added in; not to mention great licenses like Star Wars and Marvel Comics, which are both owned by Disney! Freedom Planet - A brilliant love letter to Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega Genesis gaming in general! Essentially the same case as Shovel Knight Volgarr the Viking - Awesome Ghosts n Goblins clone with a Rastan Saga-like setting; hard as hell and sparse checkpoints, but has unlimited lives! Crimson Clover: World Ignition - Awesome Japanese indie STG that's a combination of Cave's bullet hell combined with Rayforce's mechanics! Rokko Chan - Fantastic Mega Man-esque flash game that combines the 8-bit classics with Mega Man X's dash mechanic; feels very much like Mega Man 9 and 10, it's that awesome! Unfortunately, it very hard, if not impossible to get even digitally as it uses code that's very hard to extract, meaning it can't even be downloaded as a .sfw file, thus currently relegating an awesome gem as a website-dependent flash game. Valdis Story: Abyssal City - While I haven't played it yet, it seems like an awesome Castlevania clone; it recently got a massive update improving the overall game too! This is just the tip of the iceberg for digital gaming!

What I'm really afraid of, is PS3 and Xbox 360 going offline forever, which will happen at some point! If they go offline, then that means lots of great PSN/Xbox Live games will be gone forever, as well, unless the developers decide to port these games to PS4 and Xbox One. With companies like Sega and Konami, however (at least in their current status), I don't think it's gonna happen... Yes, I made the same comment on the previous upload.

@averyjenson8 жыл бұрын
+Mihály Kobela Honestly it probably won't happen for a long time. Maybe in like 10 years or so, but still that's awhile. Microsoft and Sony are pretty well off at the moment (especially Sony) and they both frequently support both their current and previous gen systems, not to mention both the PS3 and 360 have been around for like 10 years now and are still getting new games. If you don't believe that the services will still be supported, take a look at Nintendo. They STILL have the Wii shop up on the original Wii and the original Wii has still been discontinued for what, 4 years now? That's probably because that the Wii U still keeps it up, but I'm not entirely sure about that (I don't own a Wii U, I just know you can use the original Wii menu). I wouldn't let everyone's blabbing on about how the digital services are going to go down forever scare you for the moment, but it's just something that everyone should keep in mind that if there are some digital games you fancy buying, you should get them while you have the chance.

Here's a tip for PS3 owners with large digital games collections. 1. Buy a large hdd where you can fit all of your purchases. 2. After everything is installed highlight the game and have it search for e newest updates. 3. Connect a large enough USB hdd & have it make a full backup of your entire PS3 hdd and keep it in a safe place. Now if your PS3 hard drive ever gets corrupted 5, 10, 15 years down the line you can always drop in a new hard drive and restore your purchases from your backed up drive. This will work even if the companies have removed their games from PSN, or even if there is no more PSN. It's saved me a lot of headaches once already when my 1 TB drive with 1000+ games crashed.

Freedom Planet (released for the PC on Steam and the Wii U's virtual console) is a game that definitively needs a physical release, the fun thing is that It was made on Multimedia Fusion 2 originally planned as a Sonic The Hedgehog fangame but, albeit still being a platformer with anthropomorphic animals, It turned out to be something totally different from Sonic in almost all aspects at the same time and that is totally awesome, the physical release should include Spade as a playable character and a story mode for the characters that don't have one in the actual release.

Now with the Definitive version (2nd Encore) getting released on PS4/Vita with all the IGG funded DLC coming out soon, it would be great if LabZero could do even a limited print run, similar to Retro City Rampage. Speaking of which, damn you Joe for having the PS4 disc! Currently the rarest PS4 game disc :( I didn't even know it was a thing till it was already sold out...

I didn't even know about the 3D releases of the Sega games until this video, I really wanted to play them after you talked about them in the remakes episode. I gotta get my 3DS out to support Sega, lol.

About LostWinds. You can use the Wii remote on the Wii U so a physical release may still be possible.

I'd recommend Dead Nation as a co-op game. Twice the shooters, twice the fun. I played with my friend and sang pretty much all the time while being on "Highway to Hell."

Rogue Galaxy, Spelunky, Valdis Story Abyssal City, Binding of Isaac, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Broforce, Hotline Miami So many games in the classic 16bit 2D style that need physical releases. Most of them are Steam only titles... but it would be awesome to see some of those titles made for old-school systems. Imagine a Crypt of the Necrodancer port on Mega CD/Saturn now that would be epic.

I was a bit bummed you didn't mention Mega Man 9 and 10 in this episode, but a good vast majority of the rest were great titles to include.

I actually enjoy downloadable games more than physical releases nowadays. It means that I actually have some place to live at home, not just a room filled with game copies.

I still want Afterburner Climax and Hard Corps Uprising. With Scott Pilgrim getting rereleased I figure we have a good shot of atleast a LRG release.
