What they ARE doing is trying to become less like KZbin and more like TV, which means that what KZbin cares about it is changing. What IS really killing channels? Seeing our channel in the middle of the video was quite the surprise! Very cool of you to share these insights with everyone. In our six years here it's certainly been a bit of a roller coaster as the algorithm has gone through changes. I can only imagine how many factors the YT team has to consider. It's a good reminder to simply pursue what you love and give the best effort you can. Trying to ride a trend might work in the short term, but the world invariably moves on to something new.

Seriously: One 30+ minute video a day is waaay to much! For me as a tiny gaming channel uploading 3 10-15 minutes videos a week it is so unfair! And I don't want to be speaking just for myself but for all these sincere non-clickbait small channels: We do not have the time to make long videos every single day. We simply cannot. If you have other things to do besides KZbin, you won't be able to become big on that platform anymore. Make a company, basically you need way more then one person for your channel to be successful, because one person trying to put out the amount of content required to stay retentive is nearly impossible. My channel isn't monetized and I only put out videos when it's what I want to do, I'm not looking to make money or get popular I just want to share my fun with others when I have it. That's one of the ways you got to approach making content, do you want to make money or have fun, or make a lot less money and have fun.

I've had my channel for a while now and my videos are decent quality too. But i'll never blow up because it's just me, in college and no time to create a ton of content to keep up with demand. I'll probably never be super big but that's okay. I record game play with my best friends because we're hilarious! I edit because I find video editing fun (Except for editing my own voice *Eww*). I upload to KZbin (a magical place that I spend a lot of my life) because I hope for people to watch my content and maybe get some giggles out of it. I don't care if I become huge. Would I like it? SURE! But who wouldn't? No matter what happens just keep creating because its what YOU enjoy. That's what every one like you, like me, and everyone like us must do.

It's impossible to "start something popular" even in the real world. If you WANT to be popular, you will make the same thing than the other popular peoples, right? But in this case, why bother with you if the popular one is doing exactly the same? It's like thinking "there are already 6 restaurants in my street so i will create a 7th" and only AFTER that, the owner understand he can't get the needed customers to make the business work : they are already in the other restaurants. And if you have an original idea... well it will be so original that nobody will search for it in the search tab. The popular channels weren't popular just by doing videos and simply waiting the money to come, they did what they wanted to do when they noted it wasn't already on KZbin. Else you are a professional and doing many advertising through your network of relations or your money, else you will need to be lucky ;)

You are right. That is what is want to do, yet it want to give power to the creators as well. That is why there is a button called "Donate to this Channel". I believe the best way to promote the creators we like is to click that button or go to "Patron" where one donate money for them to continue what they like.

busi magen Not if they are already have a big channel at that point they pretty much build a fanbase off it they are just taking an advantage over click baiting. Like the guy who claimed to have a Nintendo Switch. That little stunt went viral just about every vlogger was talking about it even tho it was fake. It's not just the title it could be misleading thumbnails or only partially talk about what their title states. Views count towards monetization with the help of ads. Bounces may occur, but the fact remains... they are still making money in a cheap way and try to be enthusiastic behind it. Click bating/Content leaks is a trend in today's time maybe not in the music, or review genres of youtbe, but its everywhere on the gaming, movie side. I had to unsub 7 ppl b/c I grew tired of it. When I see videos like Pewdiepie gonna delete his channel 1st thing that comes to mind is that is complete BS. This guy is making thousands of dollars every month probably even more its crap like that big youtubers can get away with in terms of click baiting. Would you cut off your thousand dollar investment after achieving 50 million subs?

I was once solely a consumer of Mat's actual theories about games but there's something about turning 20 that sparks your sudden interest in the mechanism that lies below. As English is not my first language, had I watched this some years before the whole video would just fly over me and I'd click away after the first 3 minutes. I really appreciate Mat crunching numbers for us and I'm sure this will stay relevant until KZbin implemented another new algorithm (which by the time this is written they might have). What makes me upset is that people are upset. I know youtube is where a lot of people make a living, but youtube itself is a business that cares less about creative rights and more about the video views from creators. KZbin has always been fickle, going back and forth on what gets you a copyright strike and what doesn't, and there's so much drama and poison there that I wouldn't want to make it big and garner the attention of the things and types of youtubers that I hate. KZbin should be a hobby, not a job, especially because it is its own business that hardly has any relationship with those who partner with it and make their own content. Why doesint gt just use yt algorithm to advantage and use some simple software to slow the video and audio to a speed of 0.5 and then at the beginning of the gt's videos ask us to turn the playback speed to *2 thus earning him minutes watched and longer videos?

IIRC, KZbin pretty much just breaks even every year. The cost to serve many petabytes of data a day barely gets met by the money earned.

Watching youtube everyday and don't freakin care about about big companies with thousand employees. KZbin forgot who's watching videos. We don't come here to just look at annoying vids. We come here to watch people we like to watch. Want to remove what we like and kill the channels we follow? Go ahead, and when you will be as deserted as older video platforms, don't come crying to us. KZbin was great BEFORE.
