My goodness, the track level designs are so amazing for this game. And it's just a racing game! Imagine, especially for this level, an open-world Mario game like Galaxy or Sunshine where you can just freely explore the island. There's so many details, like the Island Map, that I'd just love to walk around and look at...

So, when both DLC packs are preordered, you receive colors for Yoshi and Shy Guy. We now have a Yoshi track, being Yoshi Circuit. I'm beginning to think this may be a sign to having a Shy Guy retro track return in this set of DLC. There are two to choose from, being Shy Guy Beach (GBA) and Shy Guy Bazaar (3DS), and if Yoshi Circuit making it's second retro appearance means anything, Shy Guy Beach (GBA) was previously a retro track in Mario Kart Wii.

i'd rather jump around in several dozen tightly-designed linear levels built for platforming than run around the same dozen or so open levels 7-10 times.

I agree. Unless there's a huge emphasis on action or puzzle solving, most open world platformers become a little bland once you've played through the game and know where everything is. Mario games are not very combat-heavy and the puzzles and tasks are usually pretty strait-forward so you're mostly just running around finding things that you've already found. That's why open world design works so well with Zelda but it varies with Mario. Banjo-Kazooie was one of the few games that got it right though.

Hey GameXplain I wanted to point something out about the lighthouse , it's actually DAISY'S LIGHTHOUSE that was featured first in super Mario sluggers which you would go through it to get to her ballpark , this might actually explain the Orange and yellow colored restaurant next to the yoshi shaped diner , and peach and daisys shop!

Actually, all Super Mario Kart courses since DS have been re-used a second time, as the entire SMK tracklist was a bonus in Super Circuit, making up a total of five retro cups in this game! Just pointing this out, as many people seem to forget about the Super Circuit special features.

It's worth noting that all of the tracks in Super Mario Kart were in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, so there was a sort-of exception to the "no repeats" rule before now.

When I first saw the Cup Selection screen, I never really thought of it being two in the top (new) section and two in the bottom (retro) section. I just thought of it as original content on the left and DLC on the right. You'll probably be able the play the new DLC courses even without having beat all of the courses to the left, so I think they're just a separate thing.

Before people say "Oh but Super Mario Kart tracks appeared twice as retro tracks". The retro tracks in Super Circuit were test tracks for retro cups, so of course those SMK tracks that were in SC would return again

Okay, while this track may have cut some interesting things out, I still enjoy it coming back. I never got Mario Kart DS so I never could play on this track outside of DD, so I thought that when I replayed DD and this course before Mario Kart 8 came out, that this course would be perfect to make a return, and I'm just so happy its here in Mario Kart 8! It's totally a perfect timing, and makes for a beautiful return. And I would love to have a fancy home on Yoshi's shoe!

3:40 I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the tunnel now ends with a jump (or maybe a flying section), right behind the guardrail and between the trees. We see that the exit is different, but the trailer doesn't show a clear picture of the tunnel's _entrance_. Maybe it's back, or maybe not =V in any case, we'll just have to wait for less than a month now.

You said Yoshi Circuit broke the long-standing rule of no repeat retro tracks. If that was so, we wouldn't have any SNES tracks, as they were all in Super Circuit. And Baby Park was in DD, DS, and 7. Not to mention SNES Rainbow Road, which was remade in SC and 7.

Very cool! So far it appears that nintendo is, indeed, maintaining the same quality of detail and music in the dlc tracks. I can easily see the egg and triforce cups being swapped when the dlc is downloaded into the game.

I just thought I should point out that the banner on the finish line of this track contains the Mario Kart logo from the modern Mario Kart era; you know, it's the one where the A doesn't have the dash in the middle, as opposed to the other Double Dash tracks (and tracks from earlier games) of the game which have the logo in bubble writing. This could possibly mean that the forest track of DLC Pack 2 which has the same modern logo could actually be a retro remix of a track from the classic era Although I doubt that very much

I think the reason why MK8 has so much more detail is mainly due to the horsepower of the Wii U. The Gamecube was powerful at the time but wouldn't be able to render what we see in Mario Kart 8.

Actually, that's pretty interesting to note as all the other retro tracks have their games' logo. What's important about it though is that part of the reason the tree course that was seen was the new Mario kart logo. Because it was the new logo people were saying it was a new course. But because of this, that might not necessarily be true. It might be a returning course that people can't put their finger on
