@poochyboi4 жыл бұрын
@@matthewmcclain1316 5950x is going to be $799 USD MSRP. But considering the release of the RTX 3080's, scalpers are probably gonna buy everything and resell it for 2x the price. That being said the 5950X is definitely top tier CPU but its also overkill for sure if people are saying already saying Ryzen 9 3900X is an overkill CPU for gaming only.

@@poochyboi oh, was thinking it'd be cheaper. I think scalpers were overstated. Not even the brick and mortar stores had stock. I think they just didn't make any. @@poochyboi true. They still offer budget CPUs tho. I agree it sucks that AMD raised prices, but it's understandable. NOTE: There were no Ryzen 4000 Desktop processors. Ryzen 4000 was mobile (laptop) only. Desktop 3000 = Lapop 4000 generation wise. This was not known at the time of this video. So when she meant "skip the Ryzen 4000 and go for Ryzen 5000 for future-proofing", take it as skip 5000 and go for 6000. 5000 series is also where AMD beat Intel in gaming too, by having better single-core performance (5600x beats 10900k too in that). Skipping 5000 to go for 6000 and AM5 socket boards should give you 5 years of upgrade capability (as we saw about 5 years support for AM4) AND rumours suggest DDR5 RAM support.

I don't think Ryzen 5 is for gamers anymore as the new consoles will be using ryzen 7 chips so games are going to be developed for systems with 8 cores with 116 threads so if you have less than that you will have a bad time so I would say at a minimum you should get a ryzen 7 cpu for gaming until they update ryzen 5 to use 8 cores.

For some I may agree but the pocketbook of many tends to dictate what one can afford. If your building or buying a high end $2,000 computer yeah R7 could be best choice. But for those of us who are on a tight budget and have to keep cost under $1,000 it's not about biggest and best but what is cheapest and still do the job. Seems the R5 is still capable of doing what it's called on to do at a good price.
@kevinlind31724 жыл бұрын
@@kenjett2434 I would save the extra 150 as you will have they system for 5 years rather than replacing it in 2 the extra cost will benefit you as modern AAA games are already maxing out 6 core cpu's. I'm going with the R9 5900x as I think it will cost me less in the long run as I will have it for longer. I like to buy what will cost less over the long run than right now.
@kenjett24344 жыл бұрын
@@kevinlind3172 that's fine if you can afford that. But I can't afford a $2,000 plus system and according to testing doesn't improve current gaming but very little. The biggest and most expensive isn't always the best choice. Like I said for most it's the pocketbook that chooses for you. All I want to do is play a few casual games and make and upload some you tube video. I don't need a high end computer to accomplish that. A mid range will do just fine.

My mom is saving up ALL her money and trying to pay off everything she can early so she can get me a high end PC and this really helped. I really wanted the new GeForce RTX 3090 but didn’t know how a Ryzen 5 would “keep up with it” as I didn’t know if it could handle the gpu (I’m not tech savvy) but I wanted a pic that could last me like 10 years.. so I got the ryzen 9 and that was said.

From what I understand CPU Cache Memory is very important for Dwarf Fortress.

Would a ryzen 7 5700 do anything over a ryzen 5 2600 for dwarf fort? I read somewhere that dwarf fortress can only use one core and the single core performance of the 7 isnt as strong.

I would disagree on the cache part. It was the recipe that made Zen 3/Ryzen 5000 series so good for gaming.

Most people wont see this but AMD CPUs are selling out now so their price has shot up and I would wait to get one

do you happen to know when the prices may go back to normal?

@@nevi676 A bit over $500 for a 5900x is a great price even today. the 5950x is not realistic tho.
