The hotel serves as a symbol of lost innocence and the narrative also critiques the hedonistic culture of the time, illustrating how the pursuit of pleasure and materialism can lead to a sense of emptiness and entrapment.

The song has been described as being "all about American decadence and burnout, too much money, corruption, drugs and arrogance; too little humility and heart."[15] It has also been interpreted as an allegory about hedonism, self-destruction, and greed in the music industry of the late 1970s.[47] Henley called it "our interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles,"[48] and later said, "It's not really about California; it's about America. It's about the dark underbelly of the American dream. It's about excess, it's about narcissism. It's about the music business. ... It can have a million interpretations."[49] In the 2013 documentary, History of the Eagles, Henley reiterated: On just about every album we made, there was some kind of commentary on the music business, and on American culture in general. The hotel itself could be taken as a metaphor not only for the myth-making of Southern California, but for the myth-making that is the American Dream, because it is a fine line between the American Dream, and the American nightmare

@@KrizzKalikoOfficial,in reference to the drummer being the lead singer...The Eagles are a multifaceted group...Each and every member has at least 1 song they sing lead on..Each of them can play multiple instruments, and can each sing harmony on any song...The guitarist in the front of the drums, is Glen Frey, who unfortunately lost his life on Jan 18,2016 due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia...You'd know Glen's voice if you're familiar with the song "Take it Easy","Heartache Tonight",or maybe "The Heat Is On" from the movie Beverly Hill Cop...Frey's son Decon actually took his dad's place on tour for a little while, and they now have the country music singer Vince Gill singing with them...The Eagles are life long musicians that love to jam out...and I've been jamming out with them for over 50 yrs...

Eagles are considered a "super group" Don Henley -- drums/vocals Glen Frey -- guitars/vocals Joe Walsh -- guitars/vocals (formerly of James Gang) Timothy Schmidt -- bass/vocals (formerly of Poco) Don Felder -- guitars/vocals As for the song itself: I think it's about the rock-n-roll lifestyle, especially in the 70s/80s.... decadence, excess, and burnout.

It's also considered by many to be allegorical to a trip into either purgatory or hell... people seemingly partying, but they are all suffering. It's a place where "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave". You can lash out and rage, fighting your predicament "but you just can't kill the beast". The "beast" could likewise refer to addiction, and the inability to walk away from the company of fellow sufferers.

This song is about the draw of musicians to California back in the 60s and 70s. They are drawn to the glamours and high society of life Only to fine entrapment into a society of drugs and debauchery. They can't break free and can never escape this life. This was explained by the Eagles in an interview. Great reaction!

There are a bunch of theories of the meaning of this song. The Music Industry, An insane asylum, Marriage and divorce, addiction and more. There is supposedly a story about an interview with the guys in the band (who wrote it) and they said it is a song about over-indulgence and the way we live. Too much of everything and yet never enough. We do everything to excess. Eat, drink, do drugs, spend money, seek out power. My impression of what I have heard about that interview is that the "Beast" we can't kill is our own uncontrolled desire for more of everything. Anything that is written well, songs, stories. poems whatever is greater the more it makes you think and the more options it gives you. Great piece of writing and a great performance. Stay safe and well y'all.

The Eagles mostly met and formed while some of them were in Linda Ronstadt’s band back when she was the queen of 70’s rock. When their first album came out, she helped boost the awareness of their songs by covering Desperado. Check it out, she was one of the builders of country rock crossover back in the day. And she has done so much, including a collaboration project called Trio with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris. I love their version of After the Gold Rush. Very much worth hearing.

Yes, Linda Ronstadt recruited Don Henley and Glenn Frey to join her band for her Silk Purse tour in 1971. It was at that time don Henley and Glenn Frey told LR they wanted to form a band of thier own, thus The Eagles were born: Glen Frey (Vocals, guitar and keyboards) Don Henley (Drummer, Lead vocals), Bernie Leadon (Vocals, guitar, dobro, and mandolin), and Randy Meisner (Vocals, guitar, bass guitar). David Geffen (Asylum Records) was introduced to Glenn Frey, by Jackson Brown, who bought out their current label Amos Records in Sept 1971, then sent the four members to Aspen CO. to develop as a band.

AS I understand it, there are a lot of references to society. For example. the line " We haven't had that spirit here since 1969." is a reference to the removal of prayer from schools in 1969. The beast is a dual reference to the devel and addiction, which is why they could not kill the beast. You can check out but never leave is a reference that addiction cannot be cured, and that sobriety is an endless effort that does not end. The pretty woman is the attraction of drugs and alcohol, seducing the boys, and the boys seducing the ladies with dance. The song is very deep. There are a number of songs in the same era that have very deep meanings.

A possible inspiration for this song was an offhand comment by Joe Walsh. They were coming up on the end of a tour and someone said they were looking forward to getting home. And Joe said, "Y'know, 10 years in California and it still don't feel like home. But after 10 years in California, nowhere else feels like home, either."

Hotel California is a rehab center. The “beast “ is the addiction. “Some dance (drink/drugs) to remember and some dance to forget” He called for wine but they had none “You can check out anytime you like but you’ll never leave” is that you might check out of the clinic but the fight to stay clean will never leave you.

f think this is spot on. I live in a small drug-infested town and I have loved ones and family members in rehab for drug addiction. They check out of the clinics but they fight so hard to stay clean. The only safe place for them is rehab. I am always so damn afraid of losing them to the beast.

The show starts with Glen Fry narrating about how the band started. Then he tells how when the band first started practicing, they didn't have room for chairs, so they started the concert by sitting on their amps and played a couple of early songs that I didn't even know. Glen Fry then continued to tell the story of the evolution of the band. He told about how the leed guitarist and the band had a falling out and they hired Joe Walsh and Joe Walsh came out from backstage. I have seen a lot of great concerts and the Eagles was one of the best. Watch the documentary called the Eagles the history of the Eagles. It is well worth your time.

"It's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about," Henley said in a 2002 interview with "60 Minutes." We had to pre-order the Hotel California album and then painfully wait for it to arrive. Every song was amazing and we loved it!! I was 15 years old and still love listening to the whole album!! I finally got to see them live here Australia at the Tennis Centre in Melbourne Australia in the early 2000s. I'll never forget it. They played for about 3 hours.

..."Class of 76"...One day Linda Ronstadt and the Stoned Ponies were wasting the afternoon jamming before their concert that night...2 musicians walked in and were standing around watching...Linda ask them what's going on and they replied that they were just passing thru looking for a couple of guys to join them and make a band...Linda invited them to jam with them...later when they were done Linda said wow, you two and two of her band really played off each other...Later she told them she would release her two to join the other two if they all wanted too...And then Boys and Girls was The Day The Music Was Born along with the Eagles. Thank you Linda..Rest In Peace...

I love that you're getting into these songs. If people at your level find them, like them and enjoy singing along maybe they wont have to disappear into obscurity and will find new life as cover tracks or samples. I love cover tracks and samples. I've heard people say that they somehow lessen the original but I argue that they bring attention to songs that may have otherwise been forgotten, unless of course James Gunn puts them in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

I love that you are introducing this music to a generation that possibly hasn't or wouldn't hear it otherwise. I graduated HS in 1984 (I know that dates me) but I experienced great music. My brothers were 15 & 19 when i was born. I grew up hearing their music and then my own era's greats. I also experienced the intro to Mtv which was great then. Just found your channel and i'm loving it. ❤️ you thank you!

I don't care what the Eagless are trying to express ... for me it's about growing up. Once you walk thru the door of adulthood ... you can never go back to your youth. You go from child to adult in a heartbeat, and so there's no returning to the days of being a child. Every kid wants to grow up FAST, and every adult wishes they could go back to their childhood. Lesson is don't be in a hurry to walk through that door.

I met & partied w/Joe Walsh in the early 1980s. The Eagles and Hall & Oates were touring New Mexico where I lived in a mountain ski resort town. Joe was good friends w/Kenny Pasarelli who was playing with Hall & Oates at that time. They met for a few days in my town during a quick touring break. We were all enjoying the local music and drinks at one of the popular dance halls & Joe asked me to dance. We hit it off & spent the rest of the evening together dancing. When he told me who he was I thought he was lying the last thing I said to him was, "I don't care if you're a trash truck driver. You're a great guy & I've had a great time tonight!" A few months later I saw a picture of him & about died of embarrassment! I swear to you, most of these performers look so different when they're not on stage! 😅

There is a Hotel California in a small town in Baja California, Mexico, the only way to get there is on a long desert highway and right down the street is an old Catholic mission ("heard the mission bells " lyric in the song) where bells ring several times a day. But the Eagles (while none of them has ever said what it is about) claim that the "Hotel California" in Baja has nothing to do with it. Lol

I’m so glad that you are reacting to the Classics of ALL types! I follow BP and so now I’m following you too! I love BP! At first I didn’t think I was going to like him but I was wrong. I am a 69 year old white woman and I kept seeing KZbin putting him on my feed and he was reacting to stuff that I liked so I watched him and I liked him and his little jingle at the beginning where he drinks whatever it is he drinks.🍺 Anyway I’m glad that you are doing reactions to Classic music. Do you plan to do just rock when BP is not there or diversify? I’m pretty diverse in my taste but I’m going to name some rock bands and some rock solo artists I like and I’m a snob when it comes to that topic so you will probably like what you hear from my list. Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Cream, Queen, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Guess Who, The Who, The Yardbirds (by association with Jeff Beck, Eric and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin), Heart, The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, James Taylor just to get you started. BP has not explored all of these yet. He has reacted to quite a few of them though. I have more but I can’t think of them right now. God bless you and I am following you now so I am keeping my eyes on you.
