Drum only tracks from Gar and Nick combined together. Gar is on the left channel. Nick is on the right channel. Sounds best with headphones/earbuds.

Nick is very on the beat with a jazz hint.solid metal drummer. Gar is clearly a jazz musician. Lots of syncopation particularly between the last kick to snare. Lots of accents everywhere. If you haven't learned this way it's hard to relearn but a weird trick you can do is hold the sticks right from the butt end for more of a swing. .

Wow, truth be told I’ve been a Megadeth fan for nearly 35 years and until recently I didn’t realize Gar was sooo good- I remember buying both KIMB and PSBWB back in ‘86 and not really being impressed by the production- especially KIMB which was complete garbage- the remixes have been outstanding snd isolating Gar’s drumming really helped me understand what a great secret weapon he really was. RIP both him and Nick.

They are both essential to what Megadeth is. But if I really had to choose, I prefer Gar. I wouldn't have said that 25 years ago. I've come to really hear Gar's skill with adults ears and his drumming is very complex and layered. Nick is great, but straight forward. Gar is suited to Dave's quirky song writing better, at least until Countdown. And Peace Sells is arguably their best album and I love RIP to deth. There is so much groove to PS, and RIP is a straight out thrash album. Love them both.

If you compare the drumming on the first two albums to even the almighty RUST IN PEACE you can gear that Gar definitly knew how to create a groove with subtly and precision... too bad when he wasnt recording he wasnt as good because of herion and alcohol but when he was on his game his drumming is flawless and flows way better menzas very straight forward style of playing.

I remember in the 90s finding old records of 'drum battles' between major drummers from the 50s to the 70s, Buddy Rich and Ginger Baker did a lot of 'drum battle' albums with other drummers, I guess with KZbin the 'battles' can just be comparing tracks, but it's not the same because they have a song to keep time to in these and they have to avoid over-playing or they'll wreck the song, in a drum battle they can go all out because it's purely about technique. I'd like to see drum battle albums become a thing again. I also notice that there isn't a single 'Chris Bueller live cam' or 'Chris Bueller Vs' video. Would that be funny or sad?
