Good stuff Doug, very organized. I’ve seen the foam organizer made before. The guy made a frame out of 2x4’s and hung it from the wall. He had the finger pulls which I thought was a little much, but he used one thick piece of foam. Neil from Dig Dive DIY suggested to his subs that we come and check your channel out.

Having worked in the aircraft industry, I was exposed to 5S and Lean Manufacturing. I brought some of it home with me and all I can say is it's a constant work in progress. I set something up and organize it only to change it later to make it more efficient. But it does make for a better work environment. I sometimes look around and realize I have way too many tools out and I take a minute to sort through them and put them back in the tool box before I lose something. Also for me keeping the floor swept is THE most important thing I do. I work with a lot of small parts and when you launch a detent or spring across the shop a clean floor makes recovery easier.

I've been working towards this, and I'll tell you it was a big step to get from "where did I use that last?" to "I keep that in "x" drawer". I would love to have for instance a screwdriver drawer like you show, but I struggle with the value of that vs all screwdrivers in a drawer or two. Simply because of the cost of tool storage. Tool boxes are damn expensive!
@OneEyeCustoms2 жыл бұрын
@J Bondioli I agree with you on the costs of tool storage these days. Maybe look outside the box and just create a place that each screwdriver has its own spot. Maybe on a peg board or something that works for you. Separate out the useless ones and don’t organize them. Sell them or give them away. Once you organize tools, you will find you don’t buy more because the old ones were lost and then found. It takes a while to get there, but we’ll worth the effort once done. Good luck and thanks for watching!

You're 100% correct in your assessment of keeping things organized. I was raised that way by my Pop and grandfather. I worked in a speed shop for years and then a 40+ year career in aviation. Keeping things in an organized method is extremely important. Leaving a tool someplace on an aircraft is definitely not acceptable. When practical I have always put a tool away as soon as I'm finished using it. Everything has a designated place to live and locations are labeled so it's easy to see if there's something missing. Please ease up on the rap music!

@OneEyeCustoms11 ай бұрын
I believe it is cheaper all around to do it out of PVC. Less labor to make them, less materials. (Wood, glue, screws, nails) wood takes up more space between each hanger also. It all depends on the look you want at the end. I wanted functional, more room for tools and it all to cost the least amount.
