I'm no expert but does a baseball cap provide the same level of protection?
@GarandThumb
@GarandThumb 8 жыл бұрын
If it looks cool yes. Make sure it's operator but not too operator. For example, multicam hat is too much. LA hat, or NY hat is too casual. Now, LAFD, NYFD etc etc is the perfect level of operator. Also if it looks dusty - the dust acts as level IV ballistic protection.

The Crye Precision AirFrame is very nice. The light weight definitely helped out with my back problems. I also had fewer headaches at the end of the day from breaching than I had with the MICH helmet. That opening at the top really helps out. Another draw back from the AirFrame is that it falls short in the crush test than the Ops-Core and MICH. When you put it on you feel like Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. But it also looks cool! So super plus there. Didn't stick around long enough to get the Ops-Core. But I started off with the old helmet with just a chinstrap and old suspension band, then up to the Marine Corps modified headband suspension band, then to the MICH. The AirFrame was like a gift from the Gods! Money well spent on that one. Great Video.

WOW! This is the absolute most professional advice on body armor that I've seen anywhere on KZbin. Excellent advice. Although it's geared more towards military and law enforcement, still very useful information for those interested in body armor for home defense. My only critique would be that it would be great to have a video specifically for civilians who want to use body armor for home defense covering commonly available surplus body armor.

I would be very interested to see a video about integrating gear with flotation for operating in a marine environment. What kind of gear you have experience with, and what works and is light weight enough not to offset your flotation while still being effective. A lot of us Coasties really want our service to revise and modernize the equipment we use while conducting Maritime LE and the higher level missions that our specialized units perform. Let us know if you have any experience in that area. Thanks for the great videos.

Most modern helmets use a ratchet strap. A good way to know of it's tight enough is to tighten it to just where the helmet doesn't move when you bend over forward and backward without the helmet strap done up. It shouldn't be squeezing your head.

I really like what he says at the end about wearing your helmet for prolonged periods of time, I want to say I am not an operator, and I have never worked with operators, however, I have spent the last 6 years working on the flight gear for fighter pilots including their helmets and oxygen masks and at home they’ll fly a few hours at a time a couple times a week and be super happy with how their helmets and masks fit and then we’d go out on deployment and they’d have to wear their helmets and masks for much longer intervals and after one or two flights they’d start coming to us to get things refit because they start noticing hotspots where it’s causing discomfort. But of course Plaid Daddy reviews operator level equipment for guys who are only going to be operating at the local airsoft field.

I use an ACH with Howard leights and the team Wendy camfit system, it fits me really well; I just don't have my pads setup very well yet.

I use a couple of the standard Army issue ACH from ArmorSource. They don't look as cool, but you can usually pick one up for $200 or under and still get decent ballistic protection, but you are better off getting an aftermarket retention system than the standard one, like Team Wendy. Then you add rails, a RHINO and velcro for your patches to look a little bit cooler.

This video + Squid is the reason why I bought an Airframe. Who cares if I'm already 6'4" and close to hitting my head on doorways? They just look so cool, and that's all that matters!

I know I’m late to the video, but I’m a new Security Forces member and I got issued an ACH. Do you have any suggestions on how I can make this helmet as optimal & tactical as possible? Thank you.

I have a ROK military standard composite helmet and the shell is so big that I look like a Starship trooper. I also have a long neck so that aggravates the aesthetics.

I really want a helmet goggle and mesh mask set up because it looks really cool but I'm worried about one thing, eye protection, if you have a set of goggles that are extremely safe and don't fog up please tell me because I don't want a bb in my eye or not being able to see because of fog

Awesome to see your opinions on these helmets, I was curious if you'd ever looked at the MTEK's Flux? Similar design of course, but a much different suspension system...though I'm not exactly knowledgeable on helmets I've only had the pleasure of basic issue ACH's but an alternative certainly sounds fantastic.

Hey Garand Thumb - do you or anybody you know have experience running the Comtac IV? I have used the earlier versions without issues, but I am interested in the open-ear design of the IV, mainly due to the ventilation issues you pointed out. My flight helmet uses a similar ear plug/commo set up as what the Comtac IV and I really like it; awesome noise attenuation and ICS/radios are crystal clear.

Love the videos, keep them coming as fast as possible. I would like to see a review of a HHV helmet. They are cheap, but apparently made with all the right stuff, to the right standards. I would be interested to know what you think...

Excellent info. Nothing like good ole common sense. When I was in the Army, we transitioned from steel pots to the first generation kevlar. Man they were heavy, I guess most likely because of the crappy suspension system. Do you have any thoughts on the A.T.E. Hard Head Veteran's helmet. I've seen a lot of really good reviews on them as far as ballistics. Anyway thanks for the great videos.

Can't remember exactly what helmet I was wearing, it was about 6 years ago in the british army and it was like wearing a colander with blunt knives in it but everyone else was okay with it, guess I have a weird shaped tactical operator commando head too.

Oh, I bid farewell to the port and the land And I paddle away from brave England's white sands To search for my long ago forgotten friends To search for the place I hear all sailers end As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind I'll search without sleeping 'til peace I can find I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean forever will be Plot a course to the night to a place I once knew To a place where my hope died along with my crew So I swallow my grief and face life's final test To find promise of peace and the solace of rest As the songs of the dead fill the space of my ears Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean forever will be When at last before my ghostly shipmates I stand I shed a small tear for my home upon land Though their eyes speak of depths filled with struggle and strife Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life As the souls of the dead fill the space of my eyes And my boat listed over and tried to capsize I'm this far from drowning, this far from the sea, I remember the living do they think of me? When my bones in the ocean forever will be Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss I'm not sure what I want but I don't think it's this As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on I make sail for the dawn 'til the darkness has gone As the souls of the dead live for'er in my mind As I live all the years that they left me behind I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea I remember the fallen and they think of me For our souls in the ocean together will be I remember the fallen and they think of me, For our souls in the ocean together will be

I have a question, do the comm helmet mounts work to be used in full/mid cut helmets? or you have to use the headband with the helmet over them?

Dude, I just recently accidentally stumbled across your channel and have now watched your PC and warbelt setup videos. Very informative stuff, but i have a question regarding this helmet video. What kind of stuff should be put in the counterweight pouch? I only have experience with the Finnish Defence Forces helmet, which is basically a version of PASGT.

I ended up swapping out my 3A helmet for a bump helmet, one the weight sucks for any long period of time, and two mobility would be more important to me if ever I did need to bug

Does the headset come with the helmet mounts or do you have to get them separately, and also i see those types of headsets they always have a headband, can you take that off?

John B no sir, they do not. 3m makes arc rail adaptors for their peltors you can buy separately. Installation is super easy, just requires unclipping the ear cups, slicing out the headband and routing the wires any way you see fit
