Today I cooked carrots, onions, potatoes, leeks, garlic all from my garden, with the addition of some dried beans and a tin of tomatoes.
Here is my supper tonight.
Well pleased with that!
Things for sale here!

If you wash the trimmings well, they make an amazing veggie broth. I use skins and all ad long as they look good and are clean. I just put them in the crock pot with water while at work

if you grow your own, 'Ace' tomato is known as a coreless variety. A little smaller than a tennis ball, and without a hard core. Great if you're going to can some of your own.

beautiful Jule stars. I lived in the dessert for 2 years in Western Australia( 370 kilometres past Kalgoorlie for a mining project) , and there was not rain or cool weather rain only once in a year. 45 deg. C and red sand and solitude. When I returned back to Hastings Victoria, I embraced the rain, garden and rural life. Queensland has about 130 raging bush fires at present. The gum trees have eucalyptus oil so it really fuels fire.Sydney had worst rain last week in 34 years and they had flooding in 2 hours .I love kitchen gardens produce . Yum, I would like to come for Teatime.Yes please.

Hello Kate! I cooked this great recipe this afternoon. However, without the cabbage, there was not, and I have not own vegetables, unfortunately. I immediately cooked a very big pot, so I had three more leftovers for the freezer. Of course, I also ate a proper portion of the same. It tasted absolutely delicious. Just the right food in this cold, wet, uncomfortable weather. Greetings Claudia

So yummy!!!! Great tip re the beetroots, so frustrating when all the colour disappears. I have loads of self-sown beetroot left in my plot, which are inexplicably more like parsnips than bulbs. Delicious, though.

Perma Pen UK Hello from Canada!! Have you ever done your beets in the oven? I wrap mine in tin foil and bake/roast them. No anemic there at all!! And they take on the roasted flavour from the oven. Of course, they also take forever to cook but well worth it. You say yours look more like parsnips? Is it possible you've used a seed that produces "tubular shaped beets"? Great for slicing for pickles.

Looks really tasty. I do that with tomatoes as well, but I fish them out of the tin with a fork, onto a small plate, chop the tops off onto the counter top, chop them on the same plate and chucking them in my pot. I also wash out the can which in my case, still has most of the juice still in it and I don't have a sieve to wash up :) (but I do have a small plate and have to wipe the counter top down)

Hello Kate! What a wonderful recipe. Just the right food in this weather. Cooked with wonderful vegetables from your garden. I will definitely try this dish as well. Because I love all the vegetables you've used. Also, of course, my beloved chillies (I always make my own chilli flakes and powder) and, of course, bay leaves. Too bad that I live so far away. I would have come over smoothly for dinner. Or, before. Then we could have cooked together. I love to cook, and always with a lot of vegetables. Thanks for this nice video. Big hugs Claudia from Germany

That looks really yummy Kate, and how satisfying it must be to be able to cook with veggies you have grown yourself ( i however never will, as i could kill a "rock garden" or so my grown children tell everyone, it is true i do not have a green thumb, sadly) if you like cooking, my eldest son ( i have 2 boys and 2 girls) lives over there in England with his wife, they are both chefs and live on a narrow boat, ( they are at the moment docked in a marina in Stone) they have a you tube channel and do vlogs on cooking different dishes etc, their channel is called Narrowboat Chef, if you are interested to have a look :D

Look really good for a cold day Kate. If only a lot more people growing their own veg would not peel carrots and other veg, and also how you did the beets, would do it your way, I keep commenting on the peeling of their own veg not to do it or why do they do it, and use the stems of leaf veg too, they are throwing away the best parts! Sorry for the rant! Thanks for sharing.

That looks so tasty except the beets 😂😂 they do look pretty but I can't eat them. They taste like dirt to me. 😂 Those carrots and leek was a good catch for this time of the year. I love leek. What most people don't know is that the top part of the leek is the most nutritious part. I often see people rip it off and throw it away. And since you feel like a cold coming on try eating Brussel sprouts. They contain more vitamin C than oranges. I learned all this in my years working in a green grocery with my boss lady that had a really appropriate name to own such a store. Mrs Blackberry. 😂 I kid you not. 😉 xxx

Dear Kate, can you tell me what is going on with olive oil? I never heat it, but lots or recepies start with it. Al the world known shefs are cooking with olive oil, exept French. I like it on roasted bread and salads, cold. What hapened with old fashion vegetable oil? Did you taste a chicken cooked on olive oil? Its not eateable! And we have local olive oil, but we dont cook with it, we use it fresh and cold. Eaten by spoon if you like. So, what do you think? Maybe I am just an old lady with old habites. Today lots of people are buying ecobio stuf in shops and belive they are living healthy. In fact they are just makeing an expensive pii and poo with no benefits for the body. My vegi and vegan friends are not for havy work at farm. They are quickly hungry, tired and cold, but I love them anyway and I respect their way of life. Buuut with al them helty life they cant work so much as I, with allll of my bad habits. So where is the point?Love you!!
Let's be candid! It's time.
