What a treat Rachel, each tour of your garden is more amazing than the previous ones. I can see plants in your garden I love and have admired in my several flowers books but cannot have either because the climat is not suit or because they grow too huge for my space or simply because I was too lazy to look for them. Keep it coming. I hope you had a lot of visitors on Open day, you sure deserve it.

Thank you, Fernanda. We all have to grow what suits our climate. I do occasionally take chances but, in the end, I cannot be molly coddling outdoor plants. They need to do well for me or die. The greenhouse and houseplants require enough molly coddling :D Have a great evening.

Well I did have a lovely start to my day ! I watched your video in bed with a cup of tea and a biscuit 🙄 which gears me up to get out into my garden, which is not so big but gives me so much pleasure . At the moment I have a plant called Sanguisorba Lilac Squirrel which I think you’d like as it has interesting leaves and long pink tassels,(keep up the tours) I hope one day to see you and listen to your lovely Irish twang 🤗🤗🤗

Rachel; at 01:58 you mentioned the need of adding a tree behind that low border: May I suggest a "Forest Pansy" Redbud. it's foliage would compliment that border.
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 5 жыл бұрын
Hello there and thank you for watching and your great suggestion. I do love the Forest Pansy and you probably saw my own specimen later on in the video. The colours and size would suit that border but it may be a bit windy for it. The choice of tree for this position, in any case, will be decided by my eldest daughter, Ishtar. Her birth tree had to be removed last year so I promised her a replacement.

That was such an interesting tour. Thank you! I'm hoping you got to enjoy your tea, later, which you surely earned. I suspect you must have a fairly mild climate there. Most plants were, for me, previously unseen. Those Hydrangeas were the most floriferous I've ever seen, & now just recalled the chocolate variety. I live in US ZONE 5 in Massachusetts, & have slightly acidic soil too , 6.4 or so. One year, after top dressing my old Lace Cap with a blend of compost & aged manure, it's flowers came out in fun pink & blue mottled hues. Your huge soft blue one appeared a soft lavender to me at 1st, so I could barely wait until you showed it a bit closer & ID'd it. How do you get yours to be so large & covered in blooms? Do you cut them in late winter / early spring, & at what height do you cut them? I'm pretty sure you're too busy to reply, so will do my own research, but am thinking if I protect mine over winter, maybe with stakes, for a wrap of burlap, & then stuff the burlap with buckets & buckets of fallen, White Oak leaves. maybe the stems would have more buds surviving up higher on the stems, so I might cut mine taller than in the past, allowing more stems & more flowers. Also - Asian Lily Beetles, wiped out my stunning Rubrum / "Star Gazer" & dark Burgundy ones. years ago. Maybe I could try them again. I'd love to try the tall, White ones with the dramatic name, which escapes me...

Good morning and thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, our climate is mild in Ireland. I guess I am in hardiness zone 8 or 9. As for the hydrangeas, they are moisture loving plants but my pruning of them is very light. Maybe that is the difference. In any case, here's a link to how I prune hydrangeas, which you may find useful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKLVZJZtnZiqjLc Wishing you a pleasant Sunday and happy gardening.

Hello Rachel, I've just found you and your lovely garden. What an acheivement! Do you have much help to keep it looking so fabulous? I have a tiny cottage type garden so a lot of your specimens would not look right but I admire your planting enormously. A suggestion, for what it's worth, consider painting the timber arches which act as entrances a soft shade of bluey/grey or perhaps fawny/beige. I know ,I'm being impertinent , telling the expert how to suck eggs but interfering is so satisfying and I really do mean well! Best of luck and happy gardening. Thank you for sharing.

Good morning and thank you for your feedback. Your cottage garden soins lovely ans I'm glad you can exprapolate from my videos. They do say that blue is a good colour for my climate and light but, personally, I prefer a more natural look. Thanks for watching and have a great day. 🌸🌼

Have you ever tried growing the Himalayan Blue Poppy (Meconopsis betonicifolia)? I would think yours is one of the few climates where it would grow well. And who doesn't love a touch of blue in the garden?

I do love the meconopsis but this year I see they are all gone from the garden. Maybe it was last summer's relentless heat. It's a pity but I will probably try them again when I get the chance. Here's how they looked a little while back... kzbin.info/www/bejne/foeym2ywlMuDfpo

Bonne chance. www.plantswithaltitude.co.uk/

Thank you for watching and I hope you are having a nice day. I have been collecting plants for years and started out by growing many of them from seed myself. It is a long process when you have a big space to fill so I also started with cheap cheap plants but in the last few years have been replacing them with more choice specimens. Hope this answers your question.
